I had written a review previously but it seems to have disappeared. Suffice to say, this hotel is possibly the worst I've ever had the displeasure of staying in. Filthy, damp, cold and sticks of puke and stale beer. Staff didn't turn up for the breakfast shift so no cooked breakfast. No apology from the arrogant and rude manager either. Sleep in the nearby hostel, sleep in your car, sleep in a doorway... just don't sleep here.

great wee place to stay. it is an old traditional building, well maintained, clean, friendly but worn in some areas which is reflected in the realistic pricing of this hotel. The staff were lovely and attentive. Our room was excellent. We didnt try the food except for breakfast which was very nice.

We booked this hotel for one night, we chose it as it allowed our small dogs, my friend phoned prior to discuss the rules with dogs and costs. On arrival, we were immediately told that the costs we were given on the phone ( and had already prepaid) were incorrect and a further £10 each was required for deep room cleaning when the room has had dogs, we can totally understand this but it would've been nice to have been told this when we phoned prior, it felt a little like stealth costing asking for more money after we had already paid. We were shown to our rooms by a lovely friendly man but when he opened the doors, we were stunned into silence. We had 2 rooms opposite each other on the top floor, to say they were filthy is an under statement. As a 2 star hotel we were prepared for perhaps older or tired furniture and decor but we did expect it to be clean. The worst of it was the pillows, the pillow I was expected to sleep on was encrusted with the yellowed drool of dozens of other guests (see photos) not even a pillow protector, just a very thin pillow case between your face and that germ ridden encrusted drool. Given we live in the days of covid this was not only utterly repugnant but downright dangerous to be so blaise about your guests health was shocking, no thought, no care nor consideration for others welfare whatsoever. Stunned we left our bags in the room, took a walk to discuss, came back as we knew we couldnt sleep there, we removed our bags, the offer included breakfast and given the poor standard it left us wondering what standards of hygiene the kitchen could be in, so we left. We out our bags in the car whilst I went to sort out another room elsewhere. My friend went to hand back the room keys and was met with a very blunt owner/manager who rolled his eyes and gave her a reply of 'What did she expect for a 2 star hotel' and not to expect any refund whatsoever. This further established what we had thought about his charges. Well he is welcome to it, it was worth losing the money to retain our health. We ended up at another hotel, so welcoming, very clean, lovely rooms, staff and food. I would think this hotel is probably fine for those not remotely concerned for their health and who like to be treated with contempt whilst they take your money.

Just had 2 nights here, and was pleasantly surprised. Our room could perhaps do with a bit of an update, but it had everything you would need. Flatscreen tv, hairdryer, plenty of coffee, tea etc, shampoo and soap in the bathroom and comfy beds. Greg the manager was very friendly and obliging, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Fantastic breakfast both days. Would definitely go again, and would recommend to anyone.

We stayed for 2 nights here in room 3. Spotlessly clean room, fresh bedding on a so comfy bed. Massive bathroom, again spotless. Good tv, plenty of channels. Good choice of tea and coffee. Good breakfast in the morning, the waitress couldn’t have been more helpful even although she was very busy. Was quite glad there was no live music because we were almost above the bar and it was pretty noisy with people coming and going until the bar shut. All in all excellent value for money and will definitely return and recommend the Dalgair to all our friends.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the bar area which can be noisy, but it is what it is
