Certainly not overwhelming, the basics is what you get, even in a Superior Double room housed in the Courtyard for £120 per night. Small, badly lit room with depressing dark decor. Pictures on website EXTREMELY misleading! Breakfast was a very dismal experience in again a very dark, tired and cold room at the back of the pub. Certainly not out to impress. Didn’t even enquire as to whether everything was ok. Have stayed in much better accommodation in the New Forest for similar money. On check out, wasn’t even asked if we had enjoyed our stay, so got the impression they were not really expecting us to have! In our opinion, once having taken all payment up front, they don’t really care whether you like it or not!

Location Located on the main road in and out of Brockenhurst so a good base to explore the New Forest. It's about a 10 minute walk to the "high street" which has a couple of nice eateries and a few quiant shops. The downside is it is a very busy road and can be quite noisy. It's also next door to the college so lots of teenagers going backwards and forwards which once you were inside, didn't really impact on you. Check In Arrived at 1230 expecting a wait before check in but was told the room was ready which was welcome after a 4 hour plus drive. Instructed that there would be no housekeeping at all during our 4 night stay and if we needed anything it was up to us to find one of the housekeepers and ask them for it. Slightly unconventional but due to Covid, completely understandable. When we did need something, the housekeeper was only too happy to help.  The Room We booked a family room as there were no doubles available. We were shown to the Wood Pigeon which was through a very large beer garden in the corner of a courtyard. Not a problem in winter but not sure I'd enjoy people sat outside my room drinking in summer. My first reaction was that it was a large room with a good size bed, small settee and a large TV. We found the bed a bit too soft and the pillows were like cotton wool (not the fault of the hotel, just our personal preference). There was a coffee machine with pods and a kettle.  The main problem for me was the two sets of French doors. They wouldn't lock properly and we struggled to open them which was a problem as there were no other windows. Once we did get them open, we struggled to close them again. We mentioned the issue with the doors at reception and the lack of security and were told nothing had ever happened so far. The bathroom was a bit dark and in need of a bit of a refurb but adequate. The towels, heated radiator and robes were lovely. Food and Drink We had a few drinks in the bar area which was really pleasant and the cooked breakfast provided was fresh and delicious. We both enjoyed the pizza and I had one of the best steaks I've ever had. I would definitely reccomend this as a base to explore the beautiful New Forest. Again, this is my personal opinion and overall, we were very happy with our stay and would definitely return.

The Huntsman doesn’t look much from the exterior but the internal decoration and atmosphere was stylish and modern (but not in the usual “glass and chrome” way). Staff were helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. It really was a surprise to experience such exceptional customer service. We had a room in the main building. It was clean and well thought through with lots of plug sockets! Shower was great and it even had a Nespresso machine! If I had one criticism, it would be that the hotel was too warm, I know it’s November, but the radiators were piping hot day and night which made our room too warm and a bit stuffy.

The hotel is a very central location for the New Forest. It is a beautiful area of the country. Our room was at the back of the hotel on the ground floor around a small courtyard. Nicely furnished and well kept. Breakfast was freshly cooked, to order, so was hot when served. I prefer this to a buffet style. Small breakfast menu. Some cereal/fruit options would be nice. We ate at the hotel both nights. The food was excellent on both. A reasonable selection at reasonable prices. All staff were pleasant and helpful despite being extremely busy. These have been difficult times for hospitality and continue to be so. Customers should take this into consideration and show a little kindness.

We visited this pub over the last week while staying in Brokenhurst. This is the most friendly and welcoming pub we have visited on our travels. The welcome was as good for our two dogs as it was for my wife and me and the food is great. A pity it is so far away from home. The staff were great and when a slight rain shower came along grabbed our meals and drinks and took us straight indoors, what good service!
