We have just returned from a brilliant weekend at The Tufton Arms. I had been in secret contact with Nigel for weeks prior to our visit and nothing was too much trouble for him when it came to planning my secret event! On our arrival we were given an amazing room with its own lounge, which my partner was over...

Visiting Appleby for a masonic dinner all I required from a hotel was somewhere to rest my head and be quiet in the morning. I was something of a distraction when I arrived as the reception person was sat at his computer. Parking advise given I was shown to my room and then parked my car. The rom was super...

Stayed February 17th and 18th. Lovely looking property on the main road / market place. Very nice period decor throughout the public areas. The lady on reception was very welcoming and processed us quickly. We had a drink in the bar. Lots of drink choices both alcoholic and non. The lounge opposite the bar was really nicely decorated. Everything worked...

We had a two night stay at the Tufton arms and the staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable with a modern bathroom. The food at breakfast and evening meal was both plentiful and delicious, unfortunately leaving us no room to try a dessert!! Would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel.

We stayed for two nights arriving late on the Friday night. The lady on reception was very helpful and friendly showing us up to our room. Then we decided to have a couple of drinks in the bar there she was again the same lady. At breakfast the same lady took our order and bought out our full English breakfast...

My partner and I were bought as a gift card and we chose to stay at The Tufton Arms. Appleby is a lovely village. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which was clean and tidy. The bed was large as was the bathroom. The cooked breakfast was very nice and the lady who took our order was...

We have just arrived back home after a two-night stay at the Tufton Arms. The first thing that struck us as we walked in was the lovely, old-fashioned decor and beautiful staircase - just my cup of tea. We received a lovely welcome when we checked in were informed that we had been given a free upgrade to the next...

Just had a lovely stay here for a night. We were upgraded to a bigger room as they were quiet, which was good, and it was nicely decorated with a big bath/shower room. Very comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and all the food was excellent. Suspect they are still in the process of upgrading and perhaps some rooms...

Very nice hotel, staff very friendly, food excellent, will definitely go back, no lift as I presume it's a listed building?, but just ask for a ground floor room. Everything very clean, cannot think of any negatives. Had chance of a chat with the chef Bill nice guy, owner Nigel very hands on.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in the medieval town of Appleby, just outside the Lake District and 15 minutes from the M6, this intimate family-run hotel offers excellent food, in its relaxed newly refurbished bar areas and in the Conservatory Restaurant. We are a fish restaurant and have developed an enviable reputation for dishes such as Gumbo's, Chowders, Goan Fish curries, Fresh Mussels (3 different ways), Cajun Prawns and Calamari, and our constantly changing fish specials all fresh daily from Neves in Fleetwood. We still have our traditional sources of great beef and Cumbrian lamb on a grill menu so meat eaters are not left out! Originally a 16th Century coaching inn, it was rebuilt in the Victorian times and is now a Grade II listed building. It blends both the contemporary and the classical creating an atmosphere that reflects the traditional charms of the past as well as the sophisticated elegance of the present. With stylish soft furnishings, heaped cushions, deep sofas, polished wooden floors and open fires its homely comforts are further completed by warm and friendly hospitality and free wi-fi. Each of the 22 en-suite guestrooms are individually furnished and decorated. Beautifully appointed they offer all the necessary modern comforts and luxuries one would expect from a hotel of this calibre. Guests can choose from a range of different accommodation options including Single, Classic Double and Family options. For those special occasions they also offer Luxury Double rooms and spacious Suites. ... more   less
