Stayed recently for 4 nights, and it was truly a mixed experience. I will start with the positives - The home itself is well maintained and gorgeous throughout - The room we were in (classic double room) was spacious and comfortable - The bathroom in the room was clean, tidy and modern - Staff at check in and out were amazing, friendly and accommodating - the location you couldn't ask for better, a short 1 min walk to the ferry, great restaurants within 5 mins walk (definitely recommend hyltons restaurant for dinner, the best food we have had for a long time, the magic roundabout was great for breakfast and a range of great bakeries) - room was well stocked with biscuits, tea, water and coffee with fresh milk available on request - bar area is lovely with a few smaller lounges available to relax in, overlooking the lake now onto the negatives -Breakfast as a whole was lacklustre, on morning one we ordered to the room, the food arrived late, and was mostly cold. Cold toast, cold and overcooked fried eggs. We couldn't finish everything due to them bringing up late and we had to go out. Not the best experience. - On day 3 we ate breakfast down in the restaurant, and it was a disaster. The hotel was hosting a wedding information day so cut short the breakfast serving time to 9:30 am, upon going downstairs to eat at 8:50 there was a massive line to get seated, that took over 30 mins to get in. When we did sit down the staff were rushed off their feet (understandable as at this rate they were not going to be clear for the event as people were having to be seated well after 9:30) so lots of food was running out in the steam serving dishes. I asked for some fried eggs as they were not help yourself (only scambled) a member of the team took this order, after 10 mins still no eggs, yet I had seen groups who were sat after us and ordered eggs after us getting theirs. I then had to ask another 2 members of staff 2 further times to get these eggs. At this point the rest of my plate was cold, and they had stopped bringing out extra food to try and wind the service down. - Room temperature, our room ran very hot, for no reason it seemed. The radiators were off but the room was boiling most of the day, odd considering how cold it was outside but it meant it was very uncomfortable to sleep in. - there is no 'proper' door lock for the rooms, just a button on the digital key reader inside. this is a bit unnerving as you can't tell if its been properly set, we found it strange there wasn't a deadlock like every other hotel we have ever stayed in. - Mask usage was poor from other guests, and staff did nothing to even ask people to put them on unless exempt, at certain points this was very unnerving for example when standing in a massive line to get into breakfast. - The bathroom in the room wasn't well ventilated, no window or extractor fan - no way to turn the heated towel rail on in the bathroom Overall I would say the stay was enjoyable, and we would return, however would not be bothering eating at the hotel again. Food, especially a good breakfast is a core element for us when we travel and it continually let us down in this respect.

Had a Christmas package break here and enjoyed every minute. A really well run hotel with clockwork admin, guest services, bar and dining room and accommodation. Couldn't fault the professionalism and friendliness of everyone we met. Rooms were services every day ( a rarity during Covid) EVEN Christmas day!! Dining was first rate. You can walk easily around the hotel grounds or into Bo'ness (just 5 minutes down the road) or along the lake promenade. The hotel is on a rise over the lake so has wonderful views, Large car park. The hotels has been tastefully and expensively modernised from its original building. It faces lake Windermere so rooms are either lake view on one face ( recommended) or over the rear buildings on tthe other so be careful what you book. Access to bedrooms is via the stairs or a listed 2 person lift with the Parisian style double concertina type doors, large enough for a wheelchair and 1 person. Quaint and perfectly in keeping but not 21st century if that what you want

Absolutely wonderful stay at an amazing hotel. It was my boyfriends birthday stayed for two nights on a late time deal through booking.com. Staff were so so lovely and attentive couldn’t do enough for you. They’d set the room up with rose petals and birthday balloon at my request, given us a later check out. Would definitely stay again and again. Would especially like to give a big thank you to Nick, Chris, and Karis the front of house staff. As well as the wonderful Michael back of house.

My family has just spent a long weekend at this beautiful hotel which couples elegance and grandeur with a relaxed, homely, unstuffy feel. The hotel and grounds are gorgeous and everywhere is spotlessly clean. Every single staff member we encountered was polite and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. We ate breakfast and evening meal in the main restaurant which is beautiful, with a view of Lake Windermere that takes your breath away. The food was delicious - we tried the salmon, seabass, beefburger and cumberland sausage and I would highly recommend any of them. The sticky toffee pudding and eton mess were also delicious. I would have liked more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu and I’m sure they would have been equally tasty. We also spent some time in the bar which is very well furnished with perfect lighting - my husband was very happy with his pint, and he is hard to please! We opted for rooms with a view of the lake and we were not disappointed. The website doesn’t give enough information as to the size of the ‘double’ bed in each category which I found a little frustrating as it appears to vary from room to room. All our beds in the end were 6 feet wide (super-king?) very luxurious and comfy. Some of our rooms had a fridge and some didn’t. I was put off by the negative reviews on here before I booked but I’m so glad I ignored them - thank you for all the photos that show exactly how lovely this hotel is, and thank you to the staff for making our weekend perfect.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and the staff were all pleasant but I was very disappointed with our afternoon tea. Two of our party were vegan and four of us had a dairy allergy. There were only two sandwiches, which were absolutely tiny, and the vegan offering had a slice of raw tofu which had literally been removed from the package and placed on the plate! The cakes on both the vegan and dairy free platters were exactly the same and extremely dry, either over cooked or been made for several days and sat around in tins. We were also presented with a random cocktail which we hadn't ordered and when we returned it, someone fetched it back and my daughter had to argue with the bar staff that we hadn't ordered it. We were a group of 12 with different requirements, however, that said, my daughter had contacted the hotel, several days prior to our arrival, to let them know of our dietary requirements. When the food came out, they brought vegetarian platters for the vegans which had to be sent back. The pots of tea came out well before the food platters and we ended up drinking stewed tea with our food because we had waited for so long. I very rarely leave reviews and I certainly have never left a negative review for a business before, but this cost £25 per person and an extra £5 if we had a glass of prosecco. Definitely not worth the cost.
