Had a lovely 2night stay at Amber House we stayed in the bay view room and it was a beautiful room ,the attention to detail was perfect. As the name of the room suggest it had a great view of goodrington beach and brixham beyond. The breakfast one of the best we have had nice and fresh and top quality....

Have to say it was with some trepidation that I booked with a smaller hotel. I need not have worried. The room was marvellous, clean tidy, décor tasteful, bathroom spotless, softest towels I have ever had, and the shower was clean, and really excellent. And woopie it was a soft bed, not made out of concrete, with lovely fresh white...

Thank you for your impressive review. We've been doing this for many years now and have found that if you trust people it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - they are all trustworthy! We first encountered this in a small guest house in a less visited part of Spain where they even had bottles of liqueurs and local Sherry that you...

Thank you so much for your recommendation. Yes, our local beach ( only a few minutes walk away) is Goodrington Beach but you are still within walking distance of Paignton town and sea front. ( 10-12 mins). We love Goodrington - being less busy and with an old-fashioned charm with it's well cared for park, boating lake and facilities. Thank...

This guest house offers a warm, friendly atmosphere on the edge of Goodrington, only a few minutes from the dog-friendly beach and open park area. There was plenty of information available about local amenities and attractions. We were also pleased to find a wide selection of DVDs at our disposal and plenty of books and magazines at hand. Christine and...

Having stayed at guest houses were the choices for breakfast seem to be of the either/or variety we have come to the conclusion that we may be spoiling our guests tremendously! But why not? If they want, porridge, croissants, full cooked and fruit and yogurt then they can have it! I don't mean you two had such a big appetite...

My husband and I stayed here for 3nights over the bank holiday weekend. We took our Labrador Jess on her holiday. We had a lovely warm welcome from Christine when we got there. We stayed in the poirot room very spacious with a large bathroom with lovely finishing touches. The full English breakfast was excellent even Jess was given a...

Dog-friendly is all about being people-friendly too. Giving guests what they need to make their stay comfortable - with or without dogs. You have obviously had a lovely time here and Jess certainly seemed to do so! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review - we really do appreciate it.

We came with trepidation as we had never stayed in a hotel before with our two little dogs. No need to have worried, after a very warm welcome we were taken to our room, what a delight. Our first morning breakfast (full English) was absolutely the best we have ever had anywhere. A lovely hotel, beautiful food, warm and welcoming,...

I can quite understand your trepidation with holidaying with your dogs for the first time in a guest house. We have had lots of experience with dogs - and dog owners and have designed all our dog facilities and services to make the stay here seamlessly easy and relaxing. And the whole area and dog friendly beaches make it a...

Our 3rd stay here and longest yet and we weren't disappointed. Lloyd and Christine excelled themselves along with the 2 girls yet again. Certainly helped to make our holiday perfect even providing information on the annual orange race at nearby Totnes which we took part and thoroughly enjoyed. On our final day we had some friends join us for breakfast...

Thank you for being lovely guests and returning time and again. I thought you might be enamoured of the orange race in Totnes - being an unusual event and bit quirky. There is so much to do round here isn't there? Not just in the English Riviera but in Totnes, Dartmouth and Dartmoor and further down the coast. Glad you...

Stayed here when I was a child and it still has the same feeling of home from home. A few changes like no gong (sorry Christine had to mention it!) and no lounge for guests but rooms now have tv's and there are DVDs to borrow which worked out great on our one rainy day. I wasn't able to slide...

Sliding down the bannisters indeed! However, you were a young child at the time - that was before Health and Safety of course! And that Fawlty Towers type gong - now perhaps that is something we should consider bringing back for breakfast times!!! (I think not -- guests are so more sophisticated now and nearly all have mobile phone alarms.....

My girlfriend and I have just stayed at Amber House for 5 nights and would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and its very friendly and helpful owners and staff to anyone. Excellent review - thank you so much. We think it is important to let guests have enough information to make decisions about planning their stay without having to trail into town and try and find the tourist information shop - which is only open shop hours anyway. I think our first review - many years ago - described us as a hidden gem - it's nice to know we are still making the grade!
