We booked three days at the Spirit of Alaska lodge and from the moment we arrived, had a wonderful time. The guide/ owner, Steel, knows every corner of Uyak Bay including places to fish, photograph, kayak, watch animals, and hike, but it's also a great time just hanging out at the fishery base of his operations. We also appreciated that...

Thank you so much for your kind words. Here at Spirit of Alaska (SOA) We believe in you. It's your trip, not ours. You tell us what you want to do, and when you want to do it. We are here to help you create your very own Adventure. We know you don't have time to re-invent the wheel, so...

There is truly no place on earth like Parks Cannery on Uyak Bay, and certainly no one like Steele Davis, an authentic Alaskan. It was one of the most memorable three days of our lives. I enjoyed the serenity and comfort of the cozy cabin in its breathtaking setting as much as the excursions up the bay. My husband loved...

Other reviewers have summed it up. Words can't describe this amazing place. If you are seeking a one of a kind, off the grid experience in one of the most beautiful places on earth, this would be a good choice. Viewing the largest bears in the world in their habitat is not only utterly jaw dropping but the connection you...

Thank you for your honest review. We work hard to stay in tune with Mother Nature, this way we know what's happening in Nature and when. This makes our job easier, we take you on your adventure and let Mother Nature do most of the work. It's what you are here for. We try hard to keep your accommodations in...

This place truly is "the spirit of Alaska". Firstly, it's set in an amazing place. Uyak Bay is remote, beautiful and utterly Alaskan, you are miles from anywhere in an amazing place. Words cant describe the grandeur of the mountains and the beautiful bay. The abandoned cannery where the lodge itself is based its also an attraction in its own...

We just returned from another incredible trip. This truly is the only place that I return to time after time (every 2 years). This time it was with two friends, though I have also been with my husband, with my children and my sister before. Highlights of our trip this time were: kayaking at the head of the bay for...

My wife and I stayed at the lodge last month and words can't begin to describe how great this trip was. Next to an African safari you won't find any area in the world with as much biological diversity as Yuyak Bay and the treats that lie within it and on its shores. Highlights included: being totally disconnected from cell...

This is our 12th year visiting Steele and the hardest part of the trip is leaving. We caught lots of halibut, some kings, spent time watching the weather change right outside the window, ate great food and generally unwound and rejuvenated. This year was a bit more laid back than in other years. The fishing was great as usual but...

Just got back from our trip and had a great time. My wife selected this location to celbrate our 40th wedding anniversary with our best friends from Colorado. Fishing every day, crabbing, and bear viewing. We had it all. Crab on the table 2 hours after they were pulled from the pot. Now that is fresh. Steele knows the area...

Leaving Kodiak and Steele was one of the hardest things my family has had to do! We had a life changing experience. We brought our two children, ages 8 and 10, and it was the trip of a lifetime. Steele was an amazing guide. What he knows about the Alaska wildlife is astounding. We spent time fishing, crabbing, bear viewing,...

We had an amazing time with Steele on our trip. Definitely an Alaska experience, comfortable settings, personalized attention, amazing scenery, hands down one of the best trips ever taken. From the fishing and crabbing available, to the scenery coupled with Steele's knowledge of the area you will have a superb experience.

Your one word "Amazing" sums up Spring time here in Uyak bay on Kodiak island it's like no other place. You are one of the few that has been fortunate enough to have experienced it mutable (3) times. I look forward to seeing your reaction on how incredibly different this place will be this summer on your July trip. You...

“This is not a hotel experience, if you are looking for a luxury lodge then this place is not for you. If you are looking for a unique, off the grid wilderness experience then Spirit of Alaska is it! You stay in a refurbished bunk house that was once part of the old cannery. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a full kitchen and a living room with an amazing view. The old bunk house has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. You bring the food and beverage, it can be as good as you make it. The living room truly has one of the best views anywhere!”
