The Cross is a pleasant destination with clean rooms, even if a little small. Afternoon tea was refreshing. Dinner was "fine dinning." Offerings were small and somewhat exotic but nicely presented. It was a nice (although somewhat expensive) experience and not one for everyday. We are glad we visited but once was probably would not return.

Stayed here for a couple of nights earlier this summer. The restaurant was nice and the food was of good quality although the atmosphere was pretty strained with a mix of couples staying at the hotel, dining room guests, and unfortunately for us a very large family with two young children who were not on their best behavior. Overall the...

We stayed at The Cross in September on the recommendation of some friends and we loved it. The room was lovely and very comfortable and there is a large, living area with couches and chairs for the guests as well. The high point was the three course dinner with marvelous choices. I had asked for a vegan meal and the...

We stayed there for 3 nights and ate in each night. The food was of a very high standard with sufficient variety to last us the 3 nights. The tasting menu plus wines was excellent which worked particularly well with 4 people. The breakfast was also very good with local produce so the day started well! Our room was extremely...

With the owners taking a very active part in the running of the hotel, everything is spotlessly clean. Although Derek and Celia have only been here for around 2 years, most of the bathrooms have already been refurbished, and to a very which standard (One of the best walk-in showers that I have experienced) Staying on a DBB basis, you...

My husband and I spend two nights at The Cross, which is run by a husband and wife team. The grounds are lovely and the room was small, but tastefully appointed. We ate dinner at the restaurant our second night - the food was good, but the service was chilly and there was a family with a young boy who...

We booked into this delightful bijou hotel as we wanted to try the highly-rated restaurant. It was all we hoped for, and more! From the warm welcome to the superb evening meal and breakfast, the whole experience was totally memorable.Set next to a beautiful river and nestling among trees which are home to red squirrels, the hotel was historically a...

We stopped overnight on the way up to Orkney and wish it had been longer. Very appealing position on the banks of a stream: charming, well appointed rooms and a, warm welcome . As we were arriving too late for the evening meal [most regrettably] we were just glad to crash out with a pot of tea in our rooms...

We had a great night on our way north. The food is truly amazing and certainly worth choosing the tasting menu! From the amuse bouche to the Lobster, the soup to the two delicious desserts ( soufflé was divine!), from the scallop cooked to perfection to the variety of homemade rolls, we were treated to a top quality dinner. Our...

Stayed here en route to a holiday in the Highlands. The choice was determined by the prospect of some good food and a pleasant place to stay, we were not disappointed. Tried the tasting menu, faultless, the wine choices were sublime and the whole evening memorable. Stayed over in one of the rooms really comfortable and were made to feel...
