Detailed Reviews
We’ve just returned from an enjoyable 2 night stay at Avon Court Lodge, Ilfracombe, and we would’ve stayed longer if they hadn’t been fully booked!
We had their only ground floor room, a double, with a very comfy bed- from which one could easily watch the TV, a bath, and a view of the birds visiting the rockery garden.
There is an honesty bar where one can sit and admire a view over the town and play boardgames over a drink from the fridge or a bottle of wine.
There is a comfortable TV lounge with the same view, with walls lined with books.
The breakfast room also has the same view. The full English included two eggs, There was even a sausage for the dog, and at only £6 per night for the dog, this was a very generous treat! The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed!
There is a laundry room where we could dry our towels and swimming gear.
The owner [and her assistant] couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful with a local map of the town provided.
There are 10 rooms with ample free parking.
The hotel is at the end of a cul-de-sac, 2 hundred metres from the South West Coast path and so it is very quiet as the only passing traffic is walkers!
The only improvement would be to provide a very thin duvet for the summers we may have with global warming! I have no hesitation in awarding it 5 stars!

We arrived at the Avoncourt after a long, showery day on the South West Coast Path and were checked into a cozy, clean balcony room overlooking Ifracombe.
Seems that was all we needed to change our luck! The weather cleared up and we rallied to enjoy an evening stroll around the Ilfracombe harborfront and sea coast.
We later enjoyed a nightcap in the honesty bar (kudos on the nice selection of beverages) and sat a while in the library — even though we didn’t do any reading.
The next morning’s breakfast was fulsome and tasty, perfect for getting ready for another day’s long walk on the Path.
Many thanks to the Avoncourt Lodge for a pleasant overnight stay!

This bnb is well located for the coastal path (it’s literally beside it) and a short walk to Ilfacombe’s restaurants, shops, theatre and gardens. We were welcomed by friendly staff and the room was clean and comfortable, cotton sheets and comfortable mattress. The shower looks basic but it’s powerful and large thick soft towels and hand towels and toiletries are supplied. The breakfast was excellent; fresh orange juice, delicious full breakfast, fresh fruit salad and proper coffee. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this bed and breakfast.

Well we needed somewhere to stay with us travelling 230 miles to view a motor home the next day.
What a wonderful place to stay at the reception we received was unbelievable so thoughtful she remembered the reason for visiting.
The room was just what we needed with our 8 months old puppy and ideal for our requirements.
The breakfast was out of this world and again attentive service.
Definitely when visiting ilfracombe again we would book if available as it was fully booked. We can see why it was full due to the location, service and value for money

Second time 6 of us have stayed here and very glad we came back. Alison and Heather were very friendly and helpful and went above and beyond in the way they looked after us. Great breakfast, so much choice. There are a few public rooms so it was easy for us all to get together rather than just be in our bedrooms when we were there. Lovely location at the end of a no through road. Yes it's up a hill, but that's Ilfracombe for you, and there's a coastal walk right next door, needed to walk off all the food! Hope to be back!

We stayed for just 1 night just to have a night away. Alison the owner was lovely, told us all about the lodge. There is a bar with an honesty box with plenty of choice of drinks etc. Nice lounge area and a lovely room for breakfast. Plenty of choice for breakfast, fresh fruit, yoghurts, and cooked full English...the sausage was devine. The bedroom was lovely, we had room 2 which had a balcony overlooking the town and you could also see the sea and I have to say that the pillows were also wonderful. The staff were lovely and nothing was to much trouble.

A last minute booking saw us staying two nights. We honestly couldn’t fault the place. Alison made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we rang the doorbell. She gave us some wonderful advice on best restaurants in the area to local walks and attractions. The honesty bar was such a lovely little touch to our stay, a few drinks while we played a game of darts with fellow guests. Our room was immaculately clean and the bed so very comfortable. The breakfast was by far the best we’ve ever had while away! Would 100% recommend staying here to anyone. If we are ever in the area again we would most definitely return.

This really is a lovely place, with very friendly and helpful staff, an excellent breakfas served in a sunny room with good views. Avoncourt has a good location near the town centre (5 mins walk). The owner is delightful, and there is a well-stocked library.

We stayed. 2 Nights in April 2022
We were greeted with a warm welcome, small tour of facilities and shown to the rooms.
Whilst being on the smaller side the room was clean and tidy, the bathroom was ample size. We had use of a lovely private balcony offering great views of the town. My only small gripe is the sink is separate to the bathroom and actually in the bedroom however no major problem.
Yes the hotel is on a hill but EVERYTHING in ilfracombe is….
Breakfast was fantastic with good choice of cereals, Fruits and cooked items.
Fantastic sleep both nights.
Great hosts, lovely little place. Would visit again..

This little hotel has the most wonderful staff who are all friendly and helpful and can't do enough for you. The breakfasts are relatively simple but very fresh, with fruit, yoghurt, full english, cereal and toast on offer washed down with plenty of tea, coffee and orange juice. Our group filled the hotel and of course we all turned up for breakfast at once, the staff coped beautifully well and we all left very happy. Although they do no evening meals, there is a lovely garden with table to sit in with take aways, lovely views. Our room was small, with a double bed which for our taste was a bit soft but we still had a good night sleep if a bit cosy. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed.
