Imagine sharing an intimate Victorian Villa in Ilfracombe, with all your close family, We found The Earlsdale.

Having booked an Elopement Wedding at the nearby Tunnels Beaches, we had 2 months to find accommodation and as soon as I saw The Earlsdale after looking at alot of places in Devon, I knew this was going to be a very special place.

Upon arrival and all having off road parking spaces, Lewis & James were so welcoming just as I felt whilst talking to Lewis over the phone, it was like they were friends not strangers, no uncomfortable silence, they welcomed my family into what I would say felt like their home.

A Secret Luxurious hideaway & idyllic location for adults only, to just be alone or special occasions for family & friends getting together, spending time exploring Devon in which The Earlsdale is a wonderful Victorian base not far from all the local shops, restaurants and beaches in fact a 10 minute pleasant walk, anytime of day.

On arrival we had homemade brownies in our own private rooms, this was a very nice touch - along with the mini stocked fridge with complimentary local bottled water, fresh local milk and a
selection of alcoholic, soft drinks which included herbal teas.

Every room was spotless and very clean, the beds were extremely comfortable, the fragrance around the B&B was amazing from their homemade candles in which we purchased to bring a little bit of The Earlsdale home with us.

Spending time in the evening in their 'honest bar'
was very relaxing and fun if you have ever wanted to try your hand at working behind a bar, mixing and serving drinks.

We had our Wedding reception at The Earlsdale
ordering in local fish & chips from Maddy's who delivered. Spending time in their spacious dining room which is adjoining the bar area and James surprising us with his delicious homemade cheesecake for pudding.

Then waking up to have another of their carefully selected breakfasts in which the hosts cater for all - vegan and vegetarians also and sourcing local products and homemade bread.

In a global pandemic we all felt very safe and the accommodation had all covid precautions in place, taking alot of stress out of your holiday.

None of my family could fault anything at The Earlsdale.

The hosts Lewis & James are exceptional going above & beyond, In which helps to create a special time spent in The Earlsdale in its
gorgeous splendor with alot of original features that makes it feel like a home not a B&B.

Thankyou for being part of my Wedding weekend and helping to create special memories, in fact it
wouldn't of been as special as it was if it wasn't for your friendly, caring and expertise in hosting the way you both do, your home became ours for the weekend.

We will be returning as soon as we can.

Sandra & David

We have just returned from a stay here and I cannot recommend it enough. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The room was great with comfy beds and extra hygienic measures available in the room such as hand sanitiser to use as well as all around the house. The breakfast was brilliant with beautiful homemade bread. The hotel is in a good location with a 15/20 minute walk to the centre. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners who always had a smile on their faces. We will definitely return when we visit Ilfracombe again!

If you want a B&B that’s relaxed, welcoming and modern then this is the place for you!
From the moment we booked the stay we were given all the info we needed straight away from the location to the free parking and check in details as well as recommendations for things to see and do.
The B&B looks fresh and new and is decorated in a modern style whilst complementing the character of the building.
Lewis and Jim were the perfect hosts welcoming us in, giving us a tour of the place and making sure everything was to our liking in the room. They talked us through all the hotel info including the honesty bar (which is a nice touch) and instructions on how to order breakfast.
We stayed in room no. 7 which is spacious, quiet and cosy. It’s decorated in a modern style with plenty of furniture to make you comfortable, including lounge seats, a dressing table, sideboard and mini fridge. We had a king sized bed (which was super comfy) and still had plenty of room to move around freely and store our bags etc. Also included in the room was a en-suite, smart tv, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and complementary products such as hand wash, room scent and shampoo bars. The toiletries were all vegan/cruelty free which I love and wish more places would offer.
I ordered the Prosecco and chocolates package as a surprise for my partner and it was all set up for us and ready when we checked into our room.
The breakfasts are amazing here and definitely set you up for the day! There are plenty of options both hot and cold on offer including full English, fruit, yoghurt and cereal (to name a few) and they’re happy to cater for dietary requirements so there’s something for everyone.
Lewis and Jim have a good knowledge of the local area and we’re happy to answer questions and offer suggestions.
The town and harbour is a short walk from The Earsldale and you’ll find everything you need there i.e. retail, food, drinks, theatre, art galley, cinema etc.
We were only staying a couple of days and wanted to relax and switch off so made the most of the stunning scenery locally and around Morthoe and Wollacombe beach. The walks there are great for buckets full of fresh air, stress busting and to get the heart pumping but can be quite steep so shoes/boots to walk in are a must.
In terms of dining in Ilfracombe Antidote, Giovanni and Luca and Stacc are all places we would recommend and serve a good range of options that also cater for dietary requirements, just make sure you book to guarantee a table.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I’m sure there’s a whole host of other things to see and do which we look forward to exploring on our next visit to Ilfracombe and The Earlsdale.

When my fiancé tried to convince me to take a short Covid staycation and a break from our Wedding saving, my main request was to stay in a traditional bed and breakfast with a bar and some period charm.

The Earsdale certainly ticked every box I had and more. The hosts are warm, welcoming and helpful. The house itself has lots of period charm; high ceilings, spacious rooms, but is also contemporary in all the right ways. There is an adult only policy and a “help yourself” bar charged on an honesty basis; two hallmarks of a civilised establishment if ever there were any.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, the showers were hot and there was even a DVD player and collection to choose from. We spent one entire morning in our room waiting out some bad weather, reading, relaxing and letting out cares and concerns recede.

The breakfasts were superb. The ingredients were thoughtfully sourced, carefully prepared and nicely presented, and there was even homemade bread for toast. We left after only two night feeling happy and recharged. We would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

On arrival you are greeted by Lewis and James who will dedicate their time to ensuring your entire stay is perfect in everyway, they are the most lovely people and you will feel welcome and relaxed instantly. The building is beautiful and elegant and you will find special touches around every corner. The rooms are decorated to a very high standard and immaculately presented. Well positioned for walking into town where you will find lots of places to eat or just stroll as the surrounding areas are amazing, both Lewis and James happy to help you decide what to do and where to go as there is masses of choice, of course you could stay in and use the honesty bar or take a dvd or book from their extensive collection which is available for guest use. Breakfast is on another level, James prepares the most amazing selection of food and Lewis ever the attentive host is there to ensure everyone is receiving the best attention at all times. A real home away from home, our second visit in six months and I am sure we will become regulars! This is a real find and deserves to be the first choice for anyone looking for a fabulous stay, would not hesitate to recommend.

Absolutely fabulous place to stay. Cannot fault it. James and Lewis are great hosts, make sure you are happy with everything, will tell you anything you want to know about the local area and their attention to detail throughout is lovely. Breakfasts are amazing and cooked to order with so much choice. The King room we stayed in was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated and we were greeted with some delicious cookies, most welcome after our long journey down from London. Being an adults only property is a bonus and I would highly recommend staying here. We would certainly return to The Earlsdale if we ever come back to Ilfracombe.

We were looking forward to our stay at the Earlsdale after reading the reviews and safe to say, we were not disappointed. The Earlsdale is a beautiful house, tastefully restored by James and Lewis and all the rooms, even the corridors and hallways, are beautifully decorated. James and Lewis were wonderful hosts making us feel really looked after and special - 3 out of 4 of us are vegan, one with a nut allergy, and we didn't need to ask for anything, James and Lewis had taken note and remembered everything and that is quite rare. The breakfast was amazing, right down to the homeade muffins. Never did we have to ask for vegan butter or soya milk, it was always waiting for us. Even chocolate in the rooms.
I enjoy the little details like the ecofriendly shampoo bars and ecofriendly tissues and toilet roll, even the dining room placemats which I'd been eyeing up in a local shop. Descriptions next to the local artwork, I could go on.
I definitely recommend The Earlsdale. Thankyou for an amazing stay.

Just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at the Earlsdale. It made a perfect base to return to after a very active few days kayaking and walking the north coast. The B&B is beautifully decorated throughout even down to a tranquil garden which our room overlooked. There is real attention to detail everywhere you look.
The rooms themselves have everything you might need for a relaxed stay; comfy bed, a hot shower with good water pressure, smart TV with access to a huge collection of DVDs and to top it off spotlessly clean.
The breakfasts were delicious with a good variety of choice. The hosts were lovely and were happy to help us out with restaurant recommendations, bus times and general tips for a great stay in Ilfracombe.
I’m sure we will be back!

We only stayed for one night and wished we stayed longer. Lewis & James were fantastic hosts and they made us feel super welcomed. The atmosphere was great and we really appreciated the additional little extras, arrival cookies, the use of books & DVDs, the sustainable choices of toilet roll and also the soap. Real thought had been made in every decision in this lovely place. The breakfast was also cooked perfectly, no faults, can't wait to visit again.

Fantastic room that was modern and clean. Our hosts were so nice and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. A nice extra was getting a cookie and a honesty bar. I would definitely stay again! An obvious effort was made for covid measures and there was hand sanitiser available.
