A warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome awaits you at this proper family run Inn. Next year will be our 30th at The White Swan and we have just about got things organised. From the moment you walk through the doors you'll feel at home. We aim to keep things simple and just let you relax ...Tom Parker Bowles reckons 'Every market town should have a White Swan' and the Daily Telegraph described us as 'God's own Country Pub' on a recent visit. If you read the reviews here you will get a flavour of what we are trying to do. We are an Inn with a lovely restaurant and 2 rosette food but not the plastic fine dining you find in many four star properties. Real food, real people, lovely rooms and great value for money. And by the way if you are not delighted I will give you your money back so long as you tell us at the time.Victor Buchanan - Owner

My husband, son and I had a lovely night stay here in one of the Hideaway rooms. The location was perfect, we were able to park directly outside our room and it was surprisingly quiet considering we where on the Market Place. The room itself was nice with a spacious bathroom. Very comfortable bed and great night sleep. My son was really impressed with the free Wifi which worked great for playing on his switch etc. Breakfast was delicious - lots to choose from. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Overall we had a fantastic stay here and would definitely recommend / stay again.

Booked to celebrate our anniversary but ended up celebrating getting engaged too! The staff could not have been more lovely or attentive, particularly the evening and bar staff, who even went to the effort of writing congratulations on our dessert plate. Our bothy room was comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. We ate in the restaurant, and had a lovely relaxing meal. We had drinks in the bar a few times, and we also enjoyed the sunshine on the terrace. The hotel is ideally placed in terms of location, and it was so peaceful and quiet, couldn’t have asked for more. We enjoyed our stay so much, and will most certainly be back.

The White Swan Inn is your classic classy family run business. Nothing was too much for the staff. The rooms are well appointed, meals tasty, and the beer, well it’s beer in an Inn, of course it’s good. The location is great for walking with the North York Moors trails nearby. The iconic railway station and trips run from here. In spring the Inn is in flower also as is the town.

Cozy, comfortable and modern room, the most easiest shower to work that I have ever come across in a hotel, and a divine breakfast! Thank you White Swan staff and owners, you made our weekend away extra special!

Brilliant lunch in a wonderful restaurant. Whitby haddock and chips plus a ploughman’s lunch with fine local ales, wonderful service and friendly atmosphere. We both absolutely loved it! We would recommend it to all :-)

Have stayed at this establishment before, stayed for a two day break in one of the cottages out the back which was not a comfortable as we expected for the price. The accommodation layout was awkward with the shower/WC on a different level to the bedroom. Food was good and the service was good.

We have just returned from a short midweek break at the White Swan in Pickering. We parked at the hotel at the hotel car park and Pickering and the White Swan were a good base for sampling the local areas of Pickering, Whitby, Goathland, Helmsley etc. It would have been even better had the steam trains been operating as well and the castle open but we were a little early in the year for that. On arrival we were upgraded to a ‘Hideaway room’ with a massive bed. The room was nice and quiet for sleeping with an extremely decent sized comfortable bed, simply but well decorated with nice lighting. The food at evening meal and at breakfast was also very good (so much so we ate there two evenings) and the chef and catering team bent over backwards in terms of helpfulness and coping with special dietary requirements which was really appreciated. The restaurant and bar areas felt both comfortable and relaxing. The only two negatives if we are to nit pick are as follows. The overall extreme heat in the bedroom in March. We asked about lowering the temperature of the room as soon as we were shown in but in-spite of this we ended up sleeping with the bedroom window wide open both nights. The bedroom rug with the white background looked a little bit grubby so this maybe needs washing or replacing with a more practical alternative. We also felt the drinks in the hotel were priced on the expensive side. All the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly, very pleasant, helpful and attentive even when under pressure and never were they overly intrusive. But a special mention must go to the young waitress with the long blonde hair who was lovely, calm and she is an absolute asset to the White Swan.

Recently stayed her on a Saturday night. Location is great, right in the middle of the high street! Our room over looked the main road but we heard no noise. The room was lovely, big, warm and clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Only downside was our evening meal was not great, we did complain which is something we never do. The waitress was apologetic and our bill was reduced accordingly. However breakfast next day was very nice.

This is the second time we have stayed at the white swan. The inn has a policy of paying when you check out so be very careful if you're ordering meals or running up a bar tab! You can opt to pay for these separately but you will need to inform them beforehand. Breakfast is a standard £20 and dinner is £40 each if you are staying in the inn, so it's probably advisable to get the full menu of starters, main and dessert if that's the case. At least that was what I was told by the head waitor. Overall, though you get what you pay for. This pub is ideally located in the middle of Pickering with car parking. It is a nice pub though it can be noisy if you have the room above the bar. Lol The room was also a bit cold. Overall, many of these places will have lost revenue especially due to covid, so just glad to give them a bit of business.
