We happened across the Stanley Arms at just the right moment for lunch. The real fire in the bar was a cosy welcome and we quickly ordered from the specials board. Two shepherd's pies and one cream of tomato soup. We took our drinks through to the table and enjoyed the view across the valley - when the April showers...

Lovely couple running the hotel. Great food and friendly staff. Good beer and nice fire in the evenings. Internet did not reach the rooms out in the stable block and Vodafone did not reach (although 02 did) - which meant we were cut off which was quite nice. If you want a weekend away from it all then this is...

The Stanley Arms is at the back of beyond on the A537 Cat and Fiddle Road between Buxton and Macclesfield. This road is prone to closures whenever snow is about so beware in wintry conditions. We visited today for the third time with a couple of friends and had a superb 'bottom of the oven' roast lamb Sunday lunch. This...

We came here from Sunday lunch following a walk in the forest. It's home cooked food, locally sourced. We had pork, it was a dinner dinner.....real gravy, crispy roast potatoes, just what you want after a big hike. Open fires, friendly staff, would highly recommend. One slight niggle was the room we were eine was a bit cold, no fire,...

Another chance last minute find in stunning scenery in the middle of nowhere. Cosy fires, fabulous food - breakfast and supper exceptional, we loved our one night stay here. The room was perfect, spotless and welcoming, huge bathroom and a decanter of sherry for a nightcap - great touch. We'll come back. The photo of the pub does not do...

Stayed here for 2 nights in mid February and had a wonderful stay. The pub is ran by the owners and they definitely make every effort to ensure you have everything you need. Excellent food was served and although the menu was small (probably because of the quiet time of year) it was very fresh and the host was willing...

The excellence of the Stanley Arms is too well known to have to repeat again but the I couldn't let another trip pass without drooling over the quality of the steak and ale pie served up on New Year's Eve. Not normally a steak person but this was just too good to be true. Lady Carolyn's pastries and crumbles are...
