Having used this hotel before and recommended to friends we came away for the weekend. Our room 107 was immediately by the air-conditioning for the hotel and sounded like a jet engine taking off - we couldn't hear each other speak. Went to reception to ask to be moved and was told they didn't have any other rooms. Was so surprised when the reception staff said oh don't usually let that room and we'd booked months ago so to be put in that room why ??? Money is the reason why so now we won't be going back again and it took 3 staff to sort out the refund and us to try and find another hotel. The lady in reception at The Royal Grosvenor held the only room they had until we could get there - she was the star who saved our weekend 😀
So good to save 20p by going to the toilet at weatherspoons. Food was average but just delighted not to have to pay to go to the toilet like you do everywhere else on the water front. All in all - good toiletting experience.
Although the queues at the bars were getting longer priority was being given to people sitting at tables & ordering drinks on the app/ on their phones. Only 2 persons behind the bar but ever time the printer produced a order that was given priority over the queuing customers resulting in not only the staff getting abuse, but the queuing customer having to wait longer. I would rather go to a more expensive pub and get served without having to queue
We booked this room September 2020. However, less than a week before our stay in the height of high season they cancelled our room, no one else's. Really upset and wanted to inform people of the shocking service. Such a shame as we have made many visits in past years so we thought we would book a nights stay.
OK, the good bits, there's loads of good bits, the staff are lovely, the room we stayed in was huge, with floor to ceiling bay window and an incredible view, brilliant location, the lack of parking is a pain, but we knew this before went. The not so good, the curtains, readily admitted by the manager, are too heavy for the fixings, meaning they don't close, so the lights of the outdoor seating area light up the room, the left hand window does not close properly, so the noise from the outdoor area is very noisy, shutting the windows means the room is very warm, there's a fan, but nothing to put it on, so a bit of room rejigging had to be done, the pillows for me, are awful, like bean bags, this resulted in very sleepless nights, for me, hubby can sleep anywhere. The fan could be changed to a ceiling fan, instead of the awful light, that does not go with room at all, again just my opinion. 1 last thing, we have stayed at a number of wetherspoons hotels and I don't get why they aren't individualised to the area, I. E in Scotland why not have Scottish breakfasts, speciality whiskey, at this hotel, have local ciders etc., what's on offer can be got at my local wetherspoons.…
