Great location, fabulous furnishings, staff and breakfast, the only place to stay in the `Charente ' The on-site church is beautiful by its simplicity, perfect location for a fairy-tale wedding or simple blessing

Once again our short visit to the Charente especially Verteuil was enhanced by a brief but memorable stay at this truly magnificent establishment. It just gets better and better ..... it must be one of the best kept secret escapes in the Charente. It oozes charm and beauty with understated opulence The owners and staff of this establishment are amazing,...

Everything about Le Couvent was heavenly: from the warmth of the hospitality, to the beautiful courtyard with its romanesque pool, gorgeous roses and the sound of the Charente river playing just over the garden wall, to the elegance and comfort of the hotel's stylish interior. As for the fabulous breakfast, an hour cannot do it justice but who wants to...

A perfect stay in an amazing place. The beauty and elegance of The Couvent enhanced even further with the luxury of a first class hotel. Steeped in history the place has the most remarkable ambience while managing to provide first class service in both food and wine. I would return for the breakfast alone! The staff went above and beyond...

I have just returned from this charming restored convent where I was one of the guests at a private special birthday party. It is hard not to use hyperbole when describing this unique hotel. It offers all the comforts of a hotel whilst making you feel you're staying as a valued guest in the home of a count. The staff...

We we lucky enough to visit the magnificent Chateau which dominates the village...

We went as a group of 8-9 and were able to book the whole convent for ourselves. The restaurant had just closed for the season, but that was to our advantage. Peter was fantastic and arranged the tables downstairs so that we all had breakfast together, and suggested a couple of local restaurants for dinners. The convent is beautiful, with...

Stayed at Le Couvent des Cordeliers for two nights, while viewing properties around the area. So pleased my first choice was fully booked as we absolutely loved this little gem of a place! It really is as pretty as the pictures suggest...even better in fact. Loved our room on the top floor...would have been nice to have a separate shower...

If there is a more picturesque village in France I've not found it. And Le Couvent is a lovely place to stay in that village. Only a short stay, booked at the last minute, so food-wise only had breakfast twice (which was great) and ate out and about whilst there. As others have said, the service is fantastic and it...

“If you choose a room on the top floor the windows need to be kept closed to keep the squirrels out, not a problem for us as we were there in October so it was getting chilly, but if you sleep with the window open in all weather, choose a first floor room.”
