We had dinner and tea here on two separate occasions. The house and grounds are stunning! With an entire field of full blooming Hydrangeas, and vine-covered walkways, the gardens were gorgeous! The tea and scones were scrumptious. But the dinner was what really stood out. The food was amazing and gourmet, and even though it was at a reasonable price,...

We absolutely loved our stay at Huntingdon House. Would refer our friends & family or anyone looking for pure luxury & beauty in Blantyre. Good food, lovely accommodations, friendly staff. Great hiking trails, beautiful picnic area. We're not tea drinkers but I'm sure the tea was nice as well.

This Place is not to be missed!! Stunning surroundings in the middle of the very old tea estate. The converted Colonial estate is just super charming. Individually decorated rooms all with their own history. We stayed in the old Chapel. 100 Square meters and 7 meter ceiling height made it a unique experience. The estate garden is a time travel...

Great location, in a beautiful tea and coffee plantation. The house reminds of an old English (Scottish!) Manor with a lot of carachter, beatifully adapted to accomodate modern needs and yet faithful to its history, making you feel that you leaped back in time. Rooms are specious and nice, staff is very friendly and Flora is a great manager who...

We had a really enjoyable single night stay here. The rooms are amazing, and the food (especially super) was possibly the best we had in Malawi. Service very friendly. Rooms are expensive though not as extreme as some in Malawi (I'd put it just into the Luxury, maybe should be high mid-range), but food and drink are amazingly reasonable. The...

A beautiful colonial house on the stunning Satemwa Tea Estate. Totally personal service, log fires and great food. Huge and individual rooms. Plenty do occupy yourself like a picnic on their own site at the top of the hill, tea tasting, bird walks, etc.

We spent a very relaxing afternoon at this magnificent place, just strolling around the beautiful gardens and enjoying ourselves doing nothing. It all began with the 10:30 Tea Tasting Tour we reserved with them, that turned out to be very disappointing and certainly not wooth the time or the money. We left it halfway through, returned to the lodge and...

We started our honeymoon in Malawi at Huntingdon House. We were in the Chapel room, which is quite spectacular if a little cold as it's very big (although they provided us with hot water bottles and we were fine - it was also winter time, so this is likely as cold as it gets). The food is amazing and the...

We stayed for two nights and loved every minute. After spending a few nights on Mt Mulanje, this was absolute luxury. The food was excellent and Amos was incredibly professional, friendly and made the best cocktails! We did the tea and coffee tour and went off a few times on mountain bikes. We definitely could have stayed longer. Annette was...

We spent a lazy day here, just the 2 of us, & it was perfect. Coffee on arrival ( mid week), an excellent & informaive 1.5 hr guided walking tour of the estate including tea & coffee plantations with Lamick, a leisurely 2 course lunch (also excellent) and a refreshing power nap in the garden before going back to Blantyre...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Arguably the most scenically beautiful region of Malawi, The Thyolo district forms the heart of Malawi's tea producing region with rolling hills of immaculately cultivated, emerald green plantations and some of the oldest estates in the country. With magnificent views of Mount Mulanje and the Lower Shire valley to the west, Satemwa enjoys a temperate climate of the Shire Highlands and relaxed ambiance of a by-gone era. Visitors to this corner of Malawi cannot but help to be caught up in the colonial magic of the area and diverse scenery which ranges from tropical evergreen forests to riverine thickets and rolling hills. Huntingdon House was built in the 1920's and the estate has been in the Cathcart Kay family for generations with members of the family still running the tea and coffee production of the estate. The grand old colonial style house has been tastefully restored as a joint venture between the Satemwa Tea Estate and the Ulendo Travel Group. ... more   less
