The accommodation is wonderful, the breakfasts are amazing, the food and drinks on offer throughout the hotel are superb and the spa services are top notch. However the main reason this place is so so good is the staff. Each and everyone of the team at Como Uma Ubud has been fantastic. Bali has suffered as a result of Covid and the hospitality industry has been hardest hit. The staff are genuinely pleased to have guests back in their country and back in their hotel. The staff are polite, friendly, generous, enthusiastic, attentive and just plain WONDERFUL. Come to Bali, come to Ubud and come to the Como Uma Ubud. You will not be disappointed!! May the world improve and tourism can once again benefit the nice people of Bali.
I had originally posted a review as I encountered a few issues but the management was quick to resolve and act to improve on their service delivery to optimise guest experience, so I am reposting it with notes on the correction and steps taken. I have mixed feelings about this hotel as part of me wanted to give it a higher rating but the few occasions I encountered just makes me deduct points. For disclosure, I was actually given a wonderful one level upgrade when I checked in which came as a very pleasant surprise. Lets start with the bad so you all know why I gave it only an average rating (though with the actions taken since my feedback, I think I must give due credit to the hotel team, and improve on their rating). 1. (Rectified and the manager confirmed that a contoured memory foam pillow is available as they provided one on my last night and I slept so well that I skipped breakfast) Lack of a memory foam or latex pillow. I don’t know about you guys, but as a side sleeper, having a firm pillow is very important, and having stayed in hotels where a latex or memory foam pillow is easily available, I am surprised that this property does not offer this. I called and asked for one, and the guy mentioned that they only have a foam pillow which is supposedly firm, but when it gets delivered, it is actually softer and fluffier than the feather pillows in the rooms. 2. Bed is on the firmer side but still comfortable. Some people like a firm bed, but the mattress topper in this hotel is not what I had expected. I just came here from a stay at the Indigo Seminyak (which is not a luxury property) and the bedding difference was extremely obvious (the indigo also had a memory from pillow that was very adequate for a side sleeper). The mattress here, is comfy and gives great support but not plush that it gives you a “bed encloses you” feeling. So for people who prefers a bedding topper that is more plush, do take note. 3. Overly generic tea bags in room. I know this may be a small thing, but the Como in Bangkok actually gives amazing good quality teabags from a local Thai brand, and here, they give a more high end version of Lipton. I am not saying they have to give expensive teabags, but they can definitely try to provide guests with something that is local and interesting. As its a wellness hotel, I also spoke with the team how The Raya Heritage in Chiang Mai, which has a similar look and feel to Como, gives a grid tray of fresh tea herbs that guests can make for a herbal infusion in their room. The Como does serves great local coffee at breakfast and it will be great of that can also be replicated in the room instead of generic Nespresso. 4. (After speaking with the team, they said they they are in the process of ridding individual plastic bottles and will be installing pump versions in the resort). Stingy with toiletries. I was quite shocked that when I asked for the third refill of toiletries in a day, I was told that I’ve already asked for them prior. Other than the Sukhothai in Bangkok, this is the only other luxury hotel that has specifically called me out of asking for extra toiletries. I have always said that if a hotel gives out travel sized bottles, then they should anticipate guests to ask for more of them (its not like i am asking for 10 in one shot), and also, bear in mind that in Bali, one uses sunblock often, and it does take a few washes to get rid of the sunblock. If you limit and don’t expect guests to ask for refills, then put pump dispensers in the room like what many other hotels are doing. Now that I’ve highlighted the few bad points I’m also going to praise and give due credit what this hotel has. 1. Friendly staff – everyone I met greets with a smile (even though they’re all wearing masks) but you can see them and that they are very genuine and welcoming. 2. Beautiful property and rooms - The landscaping and décor are definitely top notch and makes you feel calm and relaxing. Interior wise, the furnishings are built to age gracefully and maintenance has done amazing job at keeping the rooms and facilities top notch. 3. Wide array of activities that you can do with the hotel - from guided walks to adventure tours like water rafting, and even mountain hiking. There are also daily yoga classes. 4. Attentive service staff at the pool - they remember who you are and always come with a glass of water and towel when you’re at the pool. One little note that surprises me was that when I was presented with my bill it came prefilled with my name and room number, and this is the only other hotel I have stayed in other than the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok that has such attentive staff that paid such great detail. 5. Location - I love the location. Its near to reach main Ubud town center and yet far away from it to feel calm and peace. Unlike the Four Seasons, Mandapa, or its bigger sister property, the Como Shambala Estate, this is the nearest luxury accommodation to town that I can find. In conclusion, if you ask me whether I will stay here again if I’m in Ubud, I am still unsure. The team does takes feedback seriously and go all out to make sure their guests are well accommodated, and the location is amazing. But there are also many other option in this area. Nonetheless, I do think the team here at Como Uma Ubud greatly values their guests’ feedback and its a rare trait for hotels to take guests’ comments so seriously.…
Me & my friend enjoyed our lovely stay here in this beautiful hotel because of everyone's heartwarming hospitality. The facilities and atmosphere is great most specially the YOGA area, what makes it even perfect is the hotel's yoga instructor BUDI! such an awesome instructor, we never missed our afternoon sessions daily just to attend his class! Spent time in Bali for 2 weeks with consistent yoga sessions with different hotels and we must say that BUDI is the best!!!
Stayed here for 6 nights, again the staff here are all wonderful, can’t do enough for you and are a great source of info for local customs, places to visit etc. We stayed in a villa with private pool which was lovely, the view of the jungle right in front of our room was amazing to wake up to. Food around the bar and the attached restaurant is exceptionally good. Communal pool and area is gorgeous.
We’ll maintained throughout covid, this venue has all features open/available. Staff are very friendly. We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa; with 2 spacious bedrooms each with their own bathroom, a shared living and private pool overlooking the valley. Very quiet. Good a la carte breakfast options. Bar is very reasonably priced given the status of the hotel. Great experiences on offer. We did a private hike and water purification tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide- Pak Anom.
We stayed at Como UBUD for our honeymoon and had the best time ever! Everyone at the hotel were so caring and attentive which made us feel so special! Amazing food at both restaurants, massages were incredible. A great place to visit!
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Como. The food was well above our expectations, with a strong focus on health. The choices were tasty and delicious. The pool is a good size for a morning swim. The rooms are light and spacious. We had a pool suite, but our first room never received much direct sunlight because of the overhead foliage. The hotel moved us to another room with much more light over the pool area.
Stayed here and had a wonderful Time , every single staff member was wonderful and so welcoming . The food was delicious , and with every single drink came nuts and crackers which was a lovely touch . The hotel was clean and tidy . We went for a massage which was Devine x The only negative I would say is the sunbeds don’t catch the sun after 12.00
Facilities are suitable clean, tasteful and related to its location rather than generic / big hotel / corporate. Situated some minutes drive from Ubud center - so still close to action but not right in it - a good thing. Wonderful service is the lasting impression - especially Dwi and Nopri on the front desk who came to our rescue more than once. Thank you both. Oh - and there is a quite visually magical carp pond next to where you take breakfast (note: breakfast is a la carte, not buffet).
This was our first introduction to Bali and we stayed here for a few days. The hotel is superbly run: the staff are dedicated and super friendly; the facilities are clean; the bedrooms are spacious and well designed. The spa offers a range of treatments and the 75 minute massage I had was an absolute treat. There are two areas to eat: the dining area by the pool and the Italian restaurant. Both offer good quality food. Breakfast is in another dining area and offers a wide range of options. Again, the staff were super friendly and service was excellent. The food is of a high standard. This was a family holiday with 5 adults and was a perfect way to relax.
