Befitting its name, which means "temple" in Sanskrit, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve offers hotel guests a “temple” to call their own, a luxury sanctuary for inner discovery and serenity. Nestled within Bali's cultural heart of Ubud, with the Ayung River floating peacefully alongside, the hotel offers butler-serviced villas and suites; vintage VW convertible tours of villages, rice fields and temples; and dining including the signature Kubu, featuring Mediterranean-European cuisine and private cocoons.

My wife and I stayed at the Mandapa for our 30th anniversary. Our stay was flawless as far as our private villa with infinity pool, and the amenities. The staff were happy, obliging, and eager to accommodate our needs. Our butler, Dewa, is perpetually smiling and if you don't love him immediately, you better book extra time in the spa to unwind. This place was heavenly, starting with the panoramic vista overlooking the property from the expansive lobby, and then the wonderful and plentiful breakfast, along with the 40 ft infinity pool overlooking the river below. We had villa 15 and literally never saw or heard a soul. Although we are fit and could walk up and down the inclined pathways, we preferred to call for the golf cart buggies to avoid getting sweaty. The hotel provides local restaurant transfers both ways with advance notice for a reasonable fee. Their vehicles were typically much nicer than the local taxis, and often came with a bonus of a cool scented wash cloth and bottled water on the return trip. The main villa room was spectacular. Our king bed was comfy. The outdoor shower should come with instructions so it can be replicated once you get home!! The spa treatments were done in earshot of the river, so no fake nature soundtracks required! You won't want to ever leave....

As you can see I visited before, this time, last summer I stayed longer and was not disappointed. Every request before check-in regarding scents/flowers to be removed from my room was taken care of. Airport transfers were efficient and comfortable after arriving from Thailand. The property is beyond intriguing, amazing and gorgeous. Staff goes above and beyond, alwas smiling, service-minded and helping. Everything is beautiful and comfortable. The room is amazing with a breathtaking view and I wish I was there longer than 4 days. Didn't even leave the property much to see more of Ubud as it was my 4th time there. The property feels very authentically Balinese and they even have their own cow out their in the rice fields that you can visit, lol. Even the cow was beautiful. (Probably one of the best treated cows on the planet.) There was one issue picking me up after a dinner in the rice fields, the Ritz driver forgot, I had to call the hotel and remind them after having been left out side in the rain for 40 mins. I honestly think the charge for that transport should've been removed, but I didn't ask for it. My butler was personal and nice, very friendly and I received 1 spa treatment I was unfortunately not happy with. The masseuse was not friendly and her grip too hard, and she wouldn't accommodate my requests for a less firm pressure so my massage felt like a waste. The spa itself is beautiful and very relaxing though. I did have one tasting menu in the restaurant by the river. I remembered it even more enchanting the first time, but it was very good and still a wonderful experience. I'd stay 5-6 days here next time to really be able to relax.

My husband surprised me with a stay at the Mandapa for our anniversary. It was fabulous! This was our first Ritz-Carlton reserve stay, but the property and service were truly impeccable and like no other that we have experienced.

The entrance to Mandapa is unassuming at first as it is off one of the main roads in Ubud. However, as we approached the check-in terrace, the view was breathtaking! You have a whole panoramic view of the Mandapa resort. We were greeted with cold towels and and a drink and later we met our super amazing staff member, Parmini, who was assigned to us for the whole stay. She’s the best! She was so thoughtful and helpful with everything. I know my husband was texting with her for all of the surprises that were to unfold.

We ended up getting upgraded to a one bedroom pool villa 😍. It was huge and so amazing with its own private pool and lounge room that we never wanted to leave. The architecture and decor of the rooms have a very Balinese feel, which added to the experience.

Don’t worry if you can’t walk too long. The resort is huge, but there are numerous golf carts that can pick you up to get from one place to the next. We never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes for a ride in the sweltering heat!

We tried the restaurant at Kubu, which was also a surprise from my husband in the cocoon seating. The view was great! The service was pretty slow though, but I think that is our impatient East Coast mentality while we were also battling jet lag lol. Breakfast was included with our stay and the food quality and view of the Ayung river were great.

There are many activities you can do that are paid day excursions or free activities. We hired a private tour outside for the week so we didn’t get to experience the Mandapa tours. However, we did do the complimentary Sawah Rice Field walk (very informative) and the rice pounding activity that was short, but fun. My husband surprised me with the rice paddy picnic on site, which was definitely a unique experience! We didn’t get to try the spas/jacuzzis as our time was short, but it was also a bit too hot to be in a jacuzzi during this time of year.

All the staff were so friendly and smiling! Parmini was absolutely wonderful the whole trip as our Mandapa host. She was so helpful, professional, and friendly! We hope you can have her assigned to you during your stay as well.

The only one thing I would change with our stay is that with Ritz reserve properties, no membership points are accumulated. My husband is a lifetime Titanium elite member and this would have been a great benefit! Overall, this was the perfect stay. Hope we can go back someday!

There is no better place than home it is said, but Mandapa is more than a fair substitute and deserves a special mention as it stands on a class of its own.
Starting with the view which is truly spectacular as the entrance is perched above rice fields, the Agung river and a small temple providing a natural and peaceful natural environment that is truly relaxing.

Continuing with the quality of the facilities, from the transportation within the compound to the comfort of the room, blending technology and practicality. The outdoor shower is a nice touch and the pool long enough for swimming or just lazing on a deck chair under the Balinese sun. The attending maisonnette besides the pool is very handy when needing to work or catch-up with reading.

Further on, the breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of local and international dishes to cater to all tastes, and additional dishes can be ordered which nicely complement the menu. As we also had dinner at the Kubu restaurant, offering a gorgeous and intimate setting, we can attest of the quality of the dishes in presentation and flavors that creatively use local ingredients and recipes.

The Spa and fitness facilities are state of the art, from the equipment to the teachers. We attended one Yoga class in the morning which left us energized for the day, we only regret not having more time to attend more classes and activities which are offered to guests.

What distinguishes good from great are also the little touches, from the staff bringing the air ventilator to cool us down when needed, the General Manager stopping on her way to transport us, the friendliness and smiles of the Balinese people definitely made our stay special.

And last but not least the warm and personal attention and hospitality through our Patih Dendi, and all member of the staff who made us feel welcomed at every moment of our stay. Considering the above, we would certainly recommend visiting Mandapa or one of the Ritz-Carlton reserves which we look forward discovering in the future.

We booked 2 suites and our suites were upgraded to 2 of 1 bdrm villa facing rice terrace( villa 10&11). Although villas facing river is more expensive but I think facing rice terrace gives an extraordinary view. With their 2cows every morning in the terrace, looks like we stay in the middle of rice fields in luxury styles.

The villa is decorated in Balinese Style, high quality amenities and sanitary ware, they even provide 2 yoga mat in the room. Living room is outside the bedroom, gives the sleeper sleeps tight while others watching tv.

I’m very fascinating with the services from our butler (Mbak Budi) and other staffs. Each of their staffs is very attentive.
Feels like home n hope to be back.

Mandapa has a spectacular location with the most impressive entrance we have ever experienced. After travelling through small villages you head down a narrow side street that leads to security gates like a scene from Crazy Rich Asians. After you get past that the entrance to the resort and the view from the reception deck down over the resort surrounded by forest, rice terraces and the Ayung River is simply awe-inspiring. You'll want to head back to the Ambar bar every evening to experience that again and again.

For our family of four, the included Butler service was very attentive and thoughtful.

The rooms are well appointed and the beds are quite comfortable.

If you have teenage children or young adults make sure you try rafting in the Ayung River!

The things holding this resort from achieving perfect scores is the value for money associated with all services offered by the resort, and the mixed level of service from different departments of the resort.

To the first point, the Hidden Jewel tour was rather overpriced for what it included, as was Kubu. Prior to visiting Mandapa at Ubud, our family stayed in Uluwatu for 4 days at an upmarket villa with a private chef and butler, and our family unanimously voted the private dining meals prepared by our own chef as far superior to the dining experiences at Mandapa, despite the resort food costing 4x the price.

Reserve-level resorts should not forget that you have pre-paid the room, nor should they forget that you have already made a deposit for incidentals. We only wish that all service was as good as that offered by Riadi, our butler for 4 days.

A few minor things about the rooms that could be improved are the "master" switch doesn't actually turn off all the lights and the choice of frosted glass for the toilet door is somewhat questionable. But these are not deal breakers.

Our overall experience at this resort was very good and memorably but if management paid attention to these other issues it would truely be a magical experience.

I had a delightful stay at this rainforest sanctuary in the heart of the Ubud jungle. ‘Mandapa’ is actually derived from the Sanskrit word for temple and I must say, I most definitely felt a deeply spiritual energy from the moment I set foot in this property.

The hotel is a real slice of heaven for spiritually-inclined or wellness-focused travelers. It feels like an ancient temple that has miraculously been perfectly preserved for the modern day traveler.

The resort is designed to resemble a traditional Balinese village and there are several Hindu shrines throughout the spacious grounds. The Mandapa really feels as though it blends into the surrounding jungle paradise, and it’s easy to see why this property has won so many prestigious awards over the years.

I felt immediately welcome at the Ritz Carlton Mandapa. When I arrived in my villa, I found towels folded into elephants at the foot of my king size beds and a complimentary bowl of tropical fruit that included fresh mangosteen and passionfruit - my personal favorites.

I loved spending time at the giant pool, which is right on the edge of the forest. It was a beautiful place to relax and enjoy some downtime. I also enjoyed practicing yoga whilst at the property, too, as it felt so quintessentially Ubudian, although there is a fully equipped gym for those who prefer to stick to weights.

For me, no visit to a luxury property is complete without a visit to the spa and I must admit, I was expecting big things from the Mandapa. I wasn’t at all let down by their Ayurvedic spa which has a huge array of treatments on offer, including Intuitive Blind Healing, Ibu Indri breathwork, Reiki and Balinese blessing rituals. If you’re looking to discover more about energy work and spirituality, this is the perfect place to do so.

Ubud is one of the best destinations in Bali for those who are keen to relax and get in touch with their spiritual side, and the Mandapa Ritz Carlton really is the perfect place to do just that.

Our one-night stay at the Mandapa, a Ritz Carlton Reserve was the highlight of our Bali vacation. Just ten minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud center, you are immediately transformed into a state of calm upon entering the resort. The incredible Mandapa service started even before our arrival, with a member of staff contacting us in advance to let us know that they have confirmed our early check in request. On the day of arrival, we were welcomed by the director of operations and several other staff who gave us Balinese bracelets, refreshing towels, and welcome drinks. The resort grounds are maintained with the upmost care, and it was delightful to walk around the resort, admiring the natural charm.

Check in was processed in our beautiful Reserve Suite and we were presented with a full itinerary containing our reserved activities and restaurant bookings. The Reserve Suites are meticulously designed and very spacious, we especially enjoyed the gorgeous soaking tub in the bathroom and the vast balcony area overlooking the entire Mandapa Village. The bedding was plush and comfortable, and the suite came with a variety of luxurious amenities. Our Patih or Butler Rahadi was the nicest person, extremely attentive to detail and checked up on us several times a day to make sure we were happy with our stay. He would always be outside our suite waiting with a golf cart ready to bring us to our activities or restaurant reservations. His level of service was truly outstanding.

The Mandapa Spa is a luxurious oasis of calm, completed with gender separated saunas, steam rooms and a coed open-air whirlpool. Facilities were kept spotless throughout our visits. The outdoor pool area is beautiful, and the service is even better. Upon settling in, staff immediately bring you bottled water, sun lotion, insect repellant, aloe vera gel, fresh fruit and a fresh coconut! Truly the most amazing and luxurious pool set up ever!

Dinner at Kubu restaurant is a must and be sure to reserve one of the private cocoons. We ordered the tasting menu, and the beef wellington was delicious. Breakfast at Sawah Terrace is out of this world, with a full buffet and an extensive a la carte offering. Staff also passed around daily special items and “Jamu”-Indonesian elixir of health.

Mandapa offers its guests a variety of complimentary activities. During our stay we joined Restorative Yoga, Subak Farming and Local Crafts. The activity offerings are unique, meaningful and memorable. Our instructors were all very knowledgeable and the classes were well executed.

Our stay was simply magical, Mandapa, a Ritz Carlton Reserve is so much more than a resort, it is an exquisite Bali experience

It's hard to overstate how well this resort is run and the experience of it all. Ana, the general manager, Reka, the resort manager, our butler Budi, and every person we met were kind and exceeded all expectations.
Any issues were handled with transparency and honesty. The resort is on the Ayung river and the views are amazing. If you want peace and quiet, balinese culture, green everywhere, amazing food, and great activities, go here.
On new years eve, we had a reservation at the restaurant with a fixed menu. We knew the kids wouldn't enjoy it (It looked amazing to us) where we asked to go to the restaurant by the pool where we ordered a la carte. The wonderful evening was possible because the staff was willing to adjust to our needs. They could have held us to our reservation.
Every time I spoke to Ana, she seemed most proud of the culture of the staff. As a guest, one can feel it.
Because of the new years holidays, many of the wood carving galleries in Mas were closed. Reka, the Resort Manager, on her day off, went to a shop close to her home and did a video call with me scanning the sculptures in the store. This was on our last day. Reka met us on the way to the airport to give us the sculptures I chose and refused to take any additional money. This was way, way beyond the call of duty. I love the sculptures and now have a perfect memory of our trip.
Bali is not easy to get to from our part of the world. I thought the Mandapa was the highlight of our vacation.

In the villa we stayed in, there would not be enough room for to add another rollaway bed in the villa, unless in was in the corridor or in the outdoor cabana which has no AC.

I think you are looking at the wrong hotel. Mandapa is nowhere near the beach. It is near by the river.

Hi, What are some of the complimentary activities for adults and children?

There is a rafting activity which you can do for an extra cost. It is really fun for adults as well as kids. You arrive directly to the hotel where the butler gives you water and towels. The second activity is the elephant park where you can ride, swim and feed the elephants. It’s a family activity that I love. I hope this helped you !
