We stayed in cottage #1 for two nights in August. There was everything you would need for the perfect cabin experience: fire wood for the firepit, lots of seating for outdoors, bar b que, deck with outdoor seating area, horseshoe pit, bean bag toss game, pool toys to use at the pond, jacuzzi tub, lots of blankets, towels and pillows, kitchen filled with all the utensils, board games and even chocolates on the night stands. The owner even dropped by with some fresh cod caught that day! My only regret was not booking more nights.

My husband and I booked Cottage #1 for the Canada Day long weekend. The cottage is so cozy with its comfortable bed, whirlpool tub, and spacious living room with large windows and a high ceiling. There is also a second bedroom, so this would be a good cottage for a family as well. The side decks of both cottages had been newly re-built, with each holding a table and chair set and BBQ. Each cottage has its own fire pit, and there is a large front lawn which has a swing set, sandbox, cornhole boards, and horseshoe pits. There were lovely hanging flower baskets on the the front deck and the owners had decorated for Canada Day. There is also a pond just across the road, great for swimming and fishing. The owners are very friendly and treated us to some fresh crab legs. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend the Avalon Wilderness Cottages to family and friends.

These cottages are absolutely beautiful, whether it be for just an overnight stay or an extended retreat. Situated right across from a lake, these 2 combined cabins are well maintained and outfitted. We stayed in the smaller of the two cottages, with 2 bedrooms and 3 beds. The beds are very comfortable, one a little squeaky, but otherwise good. The bathroom is well outfitted, the sink area is very narrow, but that’s a minor inconvenience. Each unit has its own BBQ and fire pit and there is a shared swing set, horseshoe pit and sand box. There is wifi available (although it’s a little slow if you have multiple devices connected) and cable tv (limited stations to choose from). The cottages are located about 15 minutes north from the Ferryland Lighthouse and 45 minutes south of St. John’s. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone.
