visiting carla and franco in their exquisitely restored farmhouse on the edge of the world famous val d'orcia was the stuff of dreams. the perfectly appointed and effortlessly stylish room we booked through agriturismo italy actually turned out to be a fully self contained apartment: with so much good food available all around - and the delicious and generous included...

We are a family of four with two girls ages 12 and 9. We flew into Rome and stayed in Orvieto for the first two nights then drove north to stay in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. We travelled to Florence, Venice and Milan and this was by far the best place we stayed and our best memory. This place was...

Franco and Carla took me at the last minute into Le Torre Suite which was as inviting as it looked on the internet. The best place Ive stayed during my tuscany travels, it was so peaceful and the hosts were just the most lovely people. We had the fortune that we were the only people living in the house since we booked all 5 rooms and we opted to have...

Our family of nine just returned from a Tuscan vacation at La Grencaia. This farmhouse was amazing. Franco's attention to detail was so evident--beautifully landscaped and meticulously maintained. The home is spacious and comfortable. We found the location to be great being so close to La Foce and many interesting villages. The nearby restaurant, Dopolaoro, was our favorite Italian restaurant...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Grencaia. The hosts, Franco and Carla, are such warm people with the best recommendations for local restaurants and things to do in the surrounding area. The restaurant tips from Franco were superb and came in handy as there are a number of tourist traps in Montepulciano. The rooms are large, comfortable, clean and...

My family and a few friends (three couples with 5 young children) just spent two weeks in August at the Grencaïa. We have rented the entire house, which is very charming, nicely decorated, and surrounded by hectares of nature (without any immediate neighbours). This is fantastic is you are looking for nature and quiet holidays. The only downside is that...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The farmhouse has a composite structure. Its oldest part is the watching tower with a scarp wall. It was built in the ancient times by the Republic of Siena. The farmhouse has been completely restored in 2009, according to the principles of bio-architecture; employing building materials such as bricks, slaked lime, wood; walls have been insulated by using cork; the heating system works with bio-masses and solar cells provide hot water. Our hosts will thus enjoy a stay in a healthy structure which takes care for the environment granting at the same time all the comforts required. It is our desire to make our guests feel at home, in a warm atmosphere. The large open areas will allow a holiday in contact with nature. All bedrooms have independent entrance, beamed ceiling, terra cotta floors and bathroom en suite. The largest bedrooms have log fireplaces which you will appreciate in your intimate moments, curled up on the sofa, in winter evenings or in the cool spring and autumn days. All the bedrooms have their own open space equipped with garden furniture to relax in the shadow. B&B accommodation includes a large continental breakfast with home made cakes and salami, the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool, the possibility of having a grill party in the barbeque area equipped with a large wooden table and benches. Room La Capriata: This large double room is characterized by a beautiful truss and a bath. The bedroom is equipped with a fireplace and logs to burn. Room La Torre: This large bedroom is on the first floor of the old tower, with the entrance from the loggia, and is characterized by a hall, private bathroom with bath and shower, a high beamed and decorated ceiling and a mezzanine which can be enjoyed as a study or as an extra bedroom for two people. The bedroom has also a fireplace with logs to burn. Camera La Grancia: This large double bedroom opens onto the garden, it is a bright and airy room with a refined bathroom with double shower. It is characterized by a high beamed ceiling and by cosy a corner fireplace. Camera Il Granaio: This is a slighlty smaller double bedroom with a large bathroom with shower. The bedroom has a privileged position opening onto the garden to the south. ... more   less
