Set on a 212 acre estate on the hills of southern Umbria. We stayed in the Thalna Suite--really a guest house separate from the main villa. There were two couples on the trip. We enjoyed the privacy of the Thalna Suite and the ample space for relaxing in the great room. The setting could not have been more lovely--rolling hills, expansive vistas of the surrounding countryside, and a just-baled hay field behind the property. The bedrooms were kind of small, but adequate. The bed linens were very luxurious, offering a good night's rest. The great room had seating, a nice table and chairs, and a kitchen with some essential tools. It would be a perfect place for a getaway, long weekend, or retreat. The service was excellent. Ilora was extremely responsive in correspondence before our visit and with issues that arose while we were there. Laura was our host in the dining room and she infused that experience with her comfortable manner and desire to make our stay the best possible. We ate breakfast each morning of our stay. The continental breakfast offerings were fresh and delicious. Italian "cake" is more like an American "tart," and it felt particularly decadent to have gorgeous apricot, cherry, and berry "cake" for breakfast. For an additional cost, one could order eggs, bacon, and omelettes. We had one lunch on property, which was served al fresco. I had a delicioius panzanella salad with fresh veggies and a delightful, light, citrus dressing. Another entree was a cheese lasagna that boasted the thinnest lasagna noodles I've ever seen. The resort is removed from Orvieto by about 30 minutes on some pretty narrow, winding roads. It was perfect for us to attend a wedding at a nearby property and easy to get into Orvieto for some sightseeing and shopping with a rental car. A taxi would have been about 40 euros, one way. We would stay at this resort in a heartbeat if we visit Umbria again.

We travelled to Griffin’s resort in September after visiting the Amalfi coast with 3 couples. This was by far the best stay in our 3 week stay in Italy. This place is definitely a hidden gem. The structure itself is totally renovated and it has really comfortable rooms and wonderful washrooms. The outside is just beautiful and the pool is a definite wow!! The food at dinner is amazing especially if you’re a foodie. We really enjoyed the dinners here In fact I would rate the food here the best I’ve experienced in Italy. The chef is a wonderful lady who was trained by a Michelin star chef. Truly a culinary experience. We all loved this place. Top marks for sure !

Room Tip: It’s a little out of the way from Orvieto but well worth the 15 minute drive from the A1 autostrada

What an amazing spot!!!! The place itself is BEAUTIFUL, luxurious, tastefully decorated, fantastic view of the Umbria landscape, great pool, quiet. And then the most friendly, happy staff. The chef; an amazing woman who creates the best food with ingredients from «the garden». Their wine…. Soo good! Next door is a riding centre… an hour riding in between olive trees and grape wine….AMAZING!!! I’ll be back!

An absolute gem! The resort is located in the countryside far away from any distractions. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is mostly local or even self grown. The swimming pool is really nice. The place is beautiful and brings the shoulders down.

Our stay at Griffin’s Resort was lovely. All staff members were friendly and made us feel very welcome - with a special mention and thanks to the restaurant staff: Laura and Patricia. Laura was so warm and welcoming, always greeting us with a smile. She was very attentive and made us the best coffee! Breakfast was served (cold) buffet style with a wide selection of homemade breads and pastries (all very delicious!) - you could also request a hot breakfast. We all loved the fresh, homemade pasta and bruschetta at the restaurant - even our 16 month old fussy eater couldn’t say no! The food was always delicious and served promptly. And as we are vegetarian, they tried to adapt the menu to suit our dietary needs. The ingredients were always fresh and Patricia’s cooking always tasted like it was made with lots of love and dedication. I should also mention the view from the restaurant is beautiful and eating outside is even better! Delicious food, beautiful views and superb service - what more could you ask for! 5* for the restaurant and staff! We stayed in room 102 - our room was overall lovely, it was spacious and clean with a separate spacious bathroom area. The decor throughout was modern with a splash of Italian chic. Our jacuzzi bathtub was large and comfortable - however it was easy to slip in the bath and we had a couple of close calls! The jacuzzi was self cleaning and would turn itself on every now and then - which was slightly disturbing especially when we just put our baby to sleep, but we all got used to it after a while. The bath also had handheld shower facilities - shower pressure was great but water went everywhere as there was no shower glass/curtain. The hot water took a couple of minutes to warm up. The room temperature was lovely and we could adjust the AC to suit our needs. Would have been nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room. We received complimentary water bottles in our mini fridge on our first day but had to buy water from the restaurant thereafter. WiFi connection was good indoors but dropped as you go outside towards the pool area. The outdoor space is gorgeous with breathtaking views - the garden space is always well maintained and inviting with lots of seating available. The pool was a good size with beautiful views - but sorry to say, was a little on the dirty side. Overall we had a pleasant time at Griffin’s despite the little niggles. We would definitely come back as it is a lovely hotel with great staff and beautiful views.

From the pictures on the website and the other reviews, this resort looks like a little treasure, but we were really disappointed. On arrival the hotel did not appear inviting with a new car park and modern look. Once in reception our initial feelings were confirmed, despite the website saying “holiday farm in Umbria near Orvieto” it is a modern build in place of the original structure. On being shown to the room it did not appear to be a Superior Room, as on display on their website and the windows were not floor to ceiling but from mid body height & not very tall. Meaning the aspect of the room was quite uninviting with no easy view out of the room. The rest of the room was not as nice as we had been led to believe. The standard was not that of a Superior Room. The room was always too warm despite having air conditioning, the air conditioner in the room went down to 18dec C but the room was never that cool, being in the early to mid-20’s. The air conditioning at times could be forced to 15deg C but this didn’t seem to make any difference and the a/c didn’t stay at this figure but reverted to 18. The room was uncomfortably warm. The reception staff were not ready or set up to give you any details about the hotel or the area. We had to ask questions each time. The Resorts restaurant was ok, but for a change we wished to eat outside the Resort and the nearest good restaurants were in Orvieto 17.3km and 23 minutes’ drive away, see google maps rather than their statement! We would rate the hotel 2 overall on a scale of 1 to 10.

We spent five days in this well appointed hotel. Splendid views of the countryside and rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff at this hotel were all very friendly without exception and made us feel very welcome. The pool was beautiful and refreshing with plenty of chairs and recliners. There were a few niggles: - there was not a stand up shower just a shower head in the bath; needless to say water would go everywhere if you held the shower head above the level of the bath. The restaurant was the Achilles heel with breakfast somewhat confused and long wait every day for coffee, had to ask for the coffee to be brought out first; we always had to ask for a second coffee as it was not offered. No cooked breakfast was available. Dinners in general were not of a high standard with food often being very salty! The pasta dish was the best item provided and was generally very good. Desserts were OK but not a good choice available. The hotel produced its own wine which was very acceptable and we had plenty of it. Stables a short walk from the hotel with good horses and enjoyable hacks around the local countryside.

Dear guest, thank you so much for being with us during 2020 season. We are going to make a restyling of deluxe room with jacuzzi, in order to include a shower and a glass to avoid the water to fall down on the paviment. Concerning the breakfast, for this special season we have offered a cold served breakfast, with hot and cold drink served at the table. We hope to improve the restaurant offer during the 2021 season. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards Angela Lollini Sales manager

I booked a two week stay this past June. Angela was quick to respond to my emails and booking requests. Once I arrived, I was delighted to discover my Junior Suite was actually a small studio cottage adjacent to the main villa. It had its own private yard with connecting subterranean tunnel to the other side of the street. The room was well-appointed and very pretty with stone work and exposed beams. Unlike most Italian hotels, the beds were very comfortable! The breakfast is plentiful with many different choices. Due to COVID, it is no longer served buffet style, but that might change again in the future. Instead a waiter takes orders and brings everything to your table. Dinners are optional, and very good. Their chef creates a daily and monthly menu using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Everything was prepared with care and presentation in mind. There are also several excellent trattorias within a short drive to the resort. Their location is perfect for a Umbrian hills get-away. It is very quiet and relaxing by the pool or out in one of their many garden sitting areas. There are walking trails and farming roads nearby for a good after breakfast stretch of the legs. Orvieto is a quick 20 minutes away. Other fun day trips such as Civita de Bagnoreggio, Monster Park, Maddona del Latte winery, Perugia, and more are easily accessible by car. The staff are warm and welcoming, from the owner Rosanna, Frank the waiter, Gabriel the Nightwatchman, Angela the manager, and the kind and hard-working gardeners and cleaning staff. (and anyone else I left out!) I enjoyed meeting and speaking to them all. I highly recommend Griffin's Resort for anyone seeking a respite from the city life and/or a taste of Umbrian life.

Nothing to improve, everything exceeded our expectations. The staff was amazing, they were very helpful and kind and answered any questions or requests we had promptly. It is an idyllic place to stay and actually perfect location as well if you are looking for a marriage! The dinner was excellent as well and you absolutely have to try their local Wine, it is delicious. They produce nearly everything themselves and you can taste the freshness! Next time we pass in Orvieto we will stay there again.
