AHHHH this beautiful hotel! Beauty, from the unmatched view of the Tyrrhenian Sea as you stand in the lobby, to the breathtaking feeling when you enter your room and see the same view from your balcony. The rooms are large, airy and authentic Positano. It is refreshing just to be here. The people who work at L'Ancora are part of the allure- they treat their guests like family (Angelica, Elisabetta). Every request that I had was met with determination to make sure they found a way to get it done. The restaurant is wonderful- great breakfast every day included with the room as you sit looking out at the sea. L'Ancora is directly next to Franco's Bar, imo the most stylish place to have a cocktail in the evening, and not far down the beach is Fly Bar/Music on the Rocks for later in the night. The location of this gem of a hotel is actually perfect. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, after returning from a 3 night stay. It's truly all about the location; it's hard to beat the view from this hotel, and if a view of the colorful picturesque Positano cliffside is what you're after, this is definitely the place for you. As it was an anniversary trip, I splurged and booked the junior family suite, which, after doing plenty of research and chatting with the reception/concierge folks, has a gigantic patio and hot tub, all overlooking the glorious Positano. The view really is just incredible and you're paying for it. This was not a cheap room by any means. I will also add that it was HUGE square footage-wise; I am sure all the rooms are different here, but if you can snag it, try to get room 206. Besides the main bedroom area, there are TWO separate other sitting rooms--way too much space for just the 2 of us, but definitely would've been helpful had we had children with us who needed a separate area. So you pay for the impressive interior square footage here, as well as the huge patio, hot tub, and most-importantly, the prime view. I will also say that the staff was very kind and helpful, providing recommendations for restaurants and tips for activities etc etc. HOWEVER--for such a steep nightly rate, I will say that this hotel was lacking in other areas. 1) For one, there was no in-room coffee/tea/espresso machine. I thought this was weird because i've been to much lower caliber hotels in my travels and even if it's not a fancy machine, they usually have something. I also thought this was weird because Italians take coffee seriously! It would've been nice to have a little espresso machine and some local coffee experience, especially since we had such a giant patio and it would've been lovely to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee on the patio in the morning. 2) No ironing board 3) The safe was so old; it literally looked like it was from the 90s and we had no idea how to use it and therefore didn't use it. This would be an easy fix, not sure why they haven't spent the $ to modernize and get some new safes. 4) Despite how huge the room was, it was SO minimalistic and no-frills design-wise; there was one single painting in the entire room/suite. Only the most minimal of furnishings. Overall just lacked any sort of design/aesthetic which is a missed opportunity because it would be so easy to decorate to some sort of "coastal Italian" vibe. It was pretty boring/basic a room, like what I'd expect of a very cheap/budget hotel in the US. 5) The bathroom shower/tub only has a half glass panel? Weird and not great because water gets everywhere in the bathroom. I remember reading about this online before my visit (I think on other reviews here) and was hoping it would be fixed by the time I arrived, but alas, not the case. 6) So breakfast IS provided in their 1 restaurant upstairs on the street level, and I do appreciate an included breakfast. And room service is an option, but for additional charge. In my opinion, they really should offer FREE room service, at least to the rooms with the patios/tables, because it's such a shame having a lovely patio but then not be able to use it for breakfast? I suppose we maybe could've run up to the restaurant, grabbing a croissant or two, and ran back down to our room/patio, but that's annoying and ultimately not realistic with glassware etc. I just think it would've been a nice perk of the premium prices guests are paying to have those rooms, and would be a very easy thing to implement. 7) I had let them know in advance that we were celebrating our anniversary, but there was no "welcome amenity" or anything like that waiting in our room upon our arrival. 8) No complimentary water/snacks in room. Mini fridge was minimally stocked. 9) This was specific to my stay but figured it's still worth noting here; the AC in our room started making a terribly annoying noise on our first night there. We called the receptionist who came down to listen to it, she turned off (and then back on) the AC, and the noise went away. So she figured it was all fixed. However, minutes later it came back on. It was late and we didn't end up calling her back because we needed to sleep. We ended up having to turn off the AC when we were sleeping because it was too annoying, so we didn't sleep great in the hot room. Nobody followed up with us the next day about it. The following evening, we again complained about it, but it was of course too late and they didn't have any maintenance people around to fix it. So they said they'd get someone to come by the following day. So again, we had to sleep another night with this annoying noise going on and off throughout the night. Finally someone came to fix it during our last day, but at that point we'd already had 2 bad nights of sleep and I was disappointed that they hadn't offered A) any sort of compensation/refund or B) the option to move into another room to sleep (even if this hotel had been full, they have a sister property closeby we could've maybe found a spare room to sleep in). The staff was very nice and sympathetic and was trying to be helpful, but overall I was just frustrated by how long it took to get fixed and the lack of proactiveness in trying to find a solution/compromise sooner. As they didn't offer any sort of refund upon checkout, I followed up via email upon returning home from vacation, and the management DID end up refunding me 200 euro per night (essentially adds up to 1 comped night), which I was appreciative of (but again, they should've offered this before I had to email IMO). One other random thing that's not super specific to the hotel but just for Positano in general--if you have a reservation at a restaurant that's not in the super walkable main shopping/dining area, call them to check if they offer a free shuttle! We had dinner booked one night at La Serra, and when I asked the receptionist to schedule a taxi for us (because you have to do that here, they aren't just available everywhere), we were informed it would be 45 euro each way! For a restaurant 10 min away! Crazy. So I called the restaurant myself (IMO the receptionist should've thought to do this/known this already?) and asked if they had any sort of shuttle service, and low and behold they did! So they sent a car for us directly to the hotel, and it was totally free both ways. Super convenient and saved us 90 euro! So my overall assessment--if I were to return to Positano, despite all the little flaws I've mentioned, I would definitely still stay here because I think it's hard to beat the view. I do wish that, for these rates, the rooms themselves were a little nicer and offered more "bells and whistles", but at the end of the day, the view and hot tub were great and the staff was very nice. And even though it's $$$, it's definitely cheaper than the nextdoor neighbor 5-star hotel Le Sirenuse, which I imagine has about the same view but at a much greater cost (though probably a nicer interior...)

The Hotel Ancora was the perfect hotel for our family of 4. Great location - easy to walk to all the shopping, restaurants and beach. The Concierge made our entire stay fabulous by recommending where to go and what to do! Our room - #221 - was spacious and well kept. A stunning view from the balcony. We hope to return one day!

From the moment we checked in, we were treated to amazing customer service. We were tired from traveling all day, but Angelica was so kind and patient, showing us to our rooms and making us feel very welcome. She had also been working with me on the phone before we arrivd helping me with restaurant reservations and a shuttle. She is amazing! Everyone we dealt with from the people working the front desk to the cleaning staff were so helpful and efficient! Reservations for dinner, towels for the beach, anything we needed we got. The restaurant staff members are led by a man who is very passionate about the way things are run, sometimes to an amusing degree. The views are beautiful. Our stay was delightful.

Hotel L’ Anchor was a highlight and grand finale to our Italy trip! Breath-taking views from both their restaurant and our seaside rooms. Staff was friendly and hotel was clean and comfortable. Easy to communicate through email prior to trip. Note: Lots of stairs in Positano! Hotel L’ Anchora is on a road that allows cars which means your suitcases can be dropped off at the hotel door (no need for you to carry suitcases down lots of city stairs)! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Beautiful Hotel, perfectly situated in the heart of Positano! From booking until check out, everything was excellent. The staff were attentive, polite and very helpful with every aspect our time there. Not to mention, the rooms had the best view of the dream Positano cliffside! I cannot stop raving about our time there! 20/10

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel L’Ancora. The entire staff was very friendly, courteous and the food was excellent. We wanted to give a special thanks to Angelica who was at the front desk. She was so helpful in coordinating our dinner reservations, excursions, and hiring our driver back to Napoli. 10/10 would stay here again.

Our group of five stopped here for lunch while shopping in Positano. I was a bit leery because there was only one other table seated at the time, but by the end I was wondering why that was the case for the opposite reason. The service and food were in the top 5 of the entire trip. The gnocchi was to die for and exactly what I was looking for. The coffee and the view were good too. Everything was served timely and we left very satisfied. I would definitely recommend this stop for lunch or dinner if you’re in Positano.
