Detailed Reviews
We have just come back from 4 nights in Positano and stayed at the Il San Pietro. The hotel has a stunning location and we had a lovely stay. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating nothing was too much trouble.
The food is good and the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms is exceptional
This hotel is probably not suitable for young children or anyone who is infirm as it has some very steep areas, although there are lifts

When I last wrote a review of Il San Pietro in July of 2018 I didn't think I would find a better way to explain how magical this place is. Having recently returned from a 9-night stay, I will have to try again...
Having been unable to travel to Italy during summer of 2020 made us long for the return even more. We didn't quite know what we will find upon arrival in July of 2021, but we were certain that Il San Pietro will maintain its highest levels of hospitality or they would not be welcoming their guests back. Without a doubt, the hotel was extremely well prepared for the after-pandemic guests! No detail was overlooked and we felt extremely comfortable and taken care off. Every facility was open and every interaction with hotel staff was as pleasant and as caring as ever.
The drinks on the terrace and dinners at Carlino or Zass made us feel alive again after many months of no travel. This is the first year we experienced Carlino for dinner and it's location right on the water gives it a different vibe and makes for a great evening.
It's really hard to compare Il San Pietro to any other place, hence the title of my review. Returning to this hotel year after year is literally like coming back to one's home away from home. Interestingly, the hotel spent the pandemic year investing into room renovations and other improvements. Everything that was impressive before now is even more so.
Lastly, a word for the tourists flying back to the United States. Hotel has made arrangements with a local doctor/pharmacy and a rapid antigen test (as required by CDC as of this writing) can be done easily right at the hotel. Just ask the front desk to arrange an appointment. This makes pre-departure logistics very simple.
A special word of thanks to Andrea, hotel's GM, and Juliano at Zass. Their smiles, which we could see even behind their masks, made our days even brighter. We can't wait to return!

From the very first steps at the parking area above the hotel one descends into, and is enveloped by an aura of peace and harmony, yin and tang, call it what you will buts it’s palpable, and very calming. The location on a cliff face above the blue Tyrrhenian sea is spectacular, the rooms and main structures built into the cliff. Stunning views surround you wherever you are. The service in this hotel is without compare, magical almost, as if one’s thoughts are being read, all delivered with a twinkle in the eye, and sometimes, with a lovely sense of humour typical of the Amalfitani. Breakfast is a sumptuous buffet, and the two main restaurants, classy and casual, are very different but equally outstanding. The gym, almost zen-like, is situated in a lemon grove beside a rose garden. Access to Positano town is easy, and just a boat ride away to marvellous local seafood restaurants, but I never wanted to leave. Why leave paradise? A stay there is truly an unforgettable experience. Paradise on earth. Spettacolare!! Gente simpaticissimi!! Complenti 👏👏👏

My husband and I travel the world and enjoy staying at some of the best hotels out there. This past week, we had our first experience (of hopefully many) at Il San Pietro and, all I can say, is “I can’t wait to go back”. From the moment that you step on to the property, you are transported into the San Pietro lifestyle, where the grounds are impeccable, service is refined, welcoming and friendly, restaurants are top notch, amenities are world class and no request is too big nor too small. The decor celebrates its past, yet is still modern. We stayed in room 62, a beautifully and tastefully decorated and spacious room, with a large closet ( space and storage for both mine and my husbands luggage), a bathroom with double sinks, and separated shower and tub (with a beautiful picture window with views), and a terrace area that had a table and two lounge chairs. Our room was pool level, which is convenient if you enjoy the pool as it is only a few steps from your door. We had drinks each evening at the terrace bar and ate at both Carlino (twice) and Zass (dinner and breakfast) and thoroughly enjoyed each meal and drink. Bravo to the chef and to the skilled and pleasant waitstaff, who made the meals and drinks that much more special with their enthusiasm, passion and conversation. We also were lucky to enjoy some late season sun at the beach, where the staff was very attentive and the service was excellent. Overall, our experience (3 nights) at Il San Pietro was unforgettable, a real Italian paradise: the history, the glamour, the luxury of the setting just oozes through its walls and we can’t wait to return.

I had an opportunity to stay at this amazing hotel, the view is incredible, we stayed at this place 6 year before and they were still remembering us and without even asking they offer us special rate and our room was just extra ordinary, the view from our room, the decorations, it really feels like we are in one of the 007 movie.
The food at this restaurant is something to die for as well, the anchovy, the breakfast, the pasta. The service is something we cannot forget, the concierge, the restaurant staff, they never over do it, but they do everything with so stylist, one night we decided to have dinner at one of the hotel close by, as soon as we arrived, we were offer nice and cold glass of bubbly and we were told this was organised by II San Pietro hotel wow.
Table 22 at the main restaurant is our favorite.
Tips for future guest- this hotel is really not for party and loud.. its too classy, the hotel was full and the restaurant was full as well in the evening, it seems like everyone was whispering, so quiet and peaceful, then this one guest arrived, they have strong American accent, they were loud and everyone was just staring at them, but they continue, we all can heard what they said even though they were 5 table away from us. Luckily the management notice this and they start playing live music next to them and that really reduce the noise from their table( bravo to the staff again) this place is really special, so tranquil, peaceful, beautiful location with nice sunset and deep blue Mediterranean sea, the hotel also provide complimentary tour by a boat for an hrs which was really amazing.
Cannot wait to come back.

We stay 3 nights in the San Pietro Hotel, the place is amazing, the food also (excepted the room service).
The price for value is very high because there is a lot of noise within the room, and the service is not valuable as it should be !
The gym worth it a lot because of new materials and high technology !
To summarize, an amazing place, the private beach is so lovely, the gym is incredible but the service is not very good, the rooms are noisy (you can hear people walking in the hall).
The 2 hours of boat trip are also a really advantage!

This hotel is beautiful 24/7 inside and out. Every inch of the property is manicured and all employees are so polite and discreet. They are very attentive to anything you need without being intrusive. This hotel is understated luxury on a very high level. The cuisine from breakfast to lunch to dinner is fresh, healthy, and delicate. Every meal is prepared fresh with seasonal ingredients and it is all second to none. Lots of the ingredients are organic and from the property. Even their limoncello and cookies with the coffee are homemade. The entire staff from top to bottom are very accommodating on all levels. You can tell that the hotel is family run. The staff show that they care for you and you can feel that the owner cares for the staff. Many of the staff have been there more than 25 years. When you are at the hotel you feel that you are staying at an exclusive, big European villa. It feels private even if the hotel is completely booked. The staff always make you feel that you are the only guest at the hotel.
We cannot imagine that they have ever had an unsatisfied guest at this hotel.

Heartfelt welcome from the bellboy to the boss. This hotel is born from an authentic approach to Excellence with a capital E. From the moment one arrives one feels cuddled, welcome, like your presence actually makes that staff member happy. From chatting with gardner Ciro about the amazing bougainvillea and heavily scented flowering tree that greets you on the property, to the precious housekeepers that keep the room looking absolutely pristine clean, to Alfredo the concierge whose pleasure and pride for working at the hotel is paramount; everyone you meet is an integral part of the experience which (seemingly!) effortlessly just happens. Everything is in the right place, everything is easy.
The beauty of the location and the attention to detail is phenomenal- i tried to capture as much as possible but really the only way is to see for yourself. A special thank you to Fabio at Zass, whose gentile voice and attention during dinner was exemplary - and forever an inspiration.

From the start of our trip the staff was attentive to making our trip experience the best. The location of this hotel allows you to admire the view of Positano from your balcony. We could not have asked for anything better. We will be returning soon. The lemon pasta at their Carlino restaurant is a must. As well as their watermelon cocktail at the beach.

Perhaps the most revealing opportunity to personally review a vacation experience occurs soon after one returns home. Especially true in our case as we just returned home yesterday from Italy's Amalfi Coast to the USA's west coast. Some 22 hours in total transit time later and after arriving home exhausted from the trip we paused to ask ourselves: Was the journey afar worth the time , effort, and money? We are incredibly fortunate to have extensively travelled the world over the past 30 years. As a result it's fair to say that we have developed a critical and discerning eye for what's real and certainly for what's not. There have been times when our post trip reflections result in lack luster feelings and to conclude: "That one is not a repeat". However, following each of our 6 different visits over the past 12 years to the Il San Pietro Hotel we have each time reviewed the trip with resounding positivity and with a desire to plan a return trip as early as the next year.
Why so? There are the obvious factors inclusive of the hotel's incredibly unique setting which provides a competely unhurried breathtaking ambience quite different than the pace of life unfolding in nearby Positano. Their unrivaled location can be reviewed in detail via the hotel web site's and within a drone type video of this cliffside wonder. Add to this impecable, highly skilled service, top notch food quality, room comfort, decor, & privacy and this hotel is unquestionably worthy for inclusion and top tier designation within any list of the world's best. Be leery of any otherwise objective looking list or conversation about the world's best hotels to be found in a seaside location that doesn't have Il San Pietro among it's top handful of recommendations.
For us and well beyond these essential attributes expected at a world class and expensive hotel is the secret ingredient that makes the arduous trip to and from the difficult to reach Amalfi Coast so worthwhile. The staff members of Il San Pietro make all the difference. While at Il San Pietro we are drenched in the lore and beauty of these wonderful Italian people. Their spirits are strong and their desire to create the best possible guest experience is worn on their faces as a badge of honor and prideful mission. Their devotion to such an unselfish craft is something we greatly admire. So much so that we return often and are happy to claim these wonderful people as our international friends.
The Il San Pietro Hotel is easily our favorite hotel experience found anywhere in the world.
To the Cinque Family, GM Andrea and the entire Team:
Arrivederci, a tutti!

I don't think so, but you really should call to make certain. Quite honestly, I don't think this is a place for kids.
We were there in April so it was not crowed. If they take reservations for a drink, book it. You don't want to miss the view and the memory.
For starters, Il San Pietro can arrange for absolutely ANYTHING you can imagine so ask them first. If you want a well recommended boat company use Premium Boat Charter (from Amalfi). I’ve them tor 10+ years and they top notch.
Hi Kara,
Sorry for my late reply, I have only just seen this!
For non hotel visitors it is best to call up the hotel directly, they speak very good English and are very helpful!
