Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The views were gorgeous from the lobby, breakfast area, and some rooms. It was close to the pedestrian path and the beach is only 5 min if you take the steps down, therefore in a great location. Rooms and all the common areas were very clean, house keeping was great. Other than that, there’s no customer service during our visit. May be it's lack of training, not sure, but it’s across the board. You can book hot tubs for use and even though the water was not hot, it was nice to relax sore muscles after the path of gods hike.
Each room is different, some with views and some not as much based on the category you book. The room next door and mine had a shared balcony. We were traveling as a girlfriends group, and the one next door is my neighbor from home. So we decided to get a couple of bottles of wine one night and gathered on the balcony and we had a wonderful time.
Felt like they nickel and dime - signed a check for room service charges at delivery with one price, but front desk decides to add extra on it at check out, if you complain then they take the extra off. It was just ridiculous. They were short staffed with no luggage assistance on our arrival, may be due to the pandemic. Two people at front desk handling all the check-ins and luggage and the elevator was broken so we couldn’t take the suitcases ourselves on the stairs.
There are a couple of hard working people (wish I remember their names) - one helping with luggage during our checkout and always kind to walk us to places as we frequently got lost in the corridors, and the lady in the breakfast area but they were exceptions not the norm. Would I stay here again? Probably, as it’s conveniently located and having a cup of coffee watching the sunrise will melt away every other concern. And the hallways are beautifully decorated with eclectic items.
Tip: Ask for a private balcony if you are on a romantic getaway.

To hear about needs of our guests and let them feel at home is important for us. We are so sorry for the inconvenience for the elevators at check-in moment, due for an electricity problem that we have solved with our technician. Our Staff at your arrival has been more than glad to work a lot to help you with luggage’s, collecting them and deliver to your rooms. Regarding the room service, for a mistake it has been charged the amount of n 2 instead just one person, we understood the mistake at the check-out moment, and we canceled one charge. My husband and I visited this hotel for 3 nights in October 2019. The location was about half way up the winding road and we found that to be good location. Walkable to all of the restaurants, shops and beach below, but still quiet with a beautiful view out over the ocean.
Upon arrival they offered us a cocktail at reception and arranged for our luggage to be taken to our room. My husband discovered he'd accidentally left his cell phone in our transfer drivers car. After calling it several times, we got ahold of the driver who was several towns away by then. The hotel staff went out of their way to arrange for the driver to drop it off at a sister property, then have it delivered to him the next day. This was at the first of our long trip and we were beyond grateful for their efforts to help us.
The rooms were clean, cute, and roomy. Everything was well maintained and in good working order, though the beds were probably a 6/10 on comfort level. The breakfast area was amazing and the spread they served at the breakfast buffet was perfect and had a wide variety of options. We ate dinner at the restaurant as well and thought it was very good and well worth going to, especially after a long day of travel.
Overall if we went back to Positano, I would not hesitate to stay at the Hotel Montemare.

My wife and I were supposed to celebrate our honeymoon in Italy, with Positano as one of our main destinations, until the Coronavirus put a halt to all our travel plans. We booked in February 2020 for a visit in June 2020. Let it be known that although we will not be visiting Italy, I wanted to give praise to this hotel to allow an exception during unprecedented times. Our hotel was pre-paid, non-refundable, but they understood that this was not a usual circumstance so they were able to refund 100% the non-refundable booking. I stayed there for 3 nights with my teenage daughter and we absolutely loved it. From the very start we felt so welcome and we just enjoyed our room with a private terrace and jacuzzi and sun beds so much we hardly felt like leaving our room. We really loved all the small details; our welcome drink we had when we arrived, the sparkling wine that welcomed us in our room and the small gifts we received every night. So amazing ❤️ The breakfast was great; Italian but they also had eggs and bacon for us Northern Europeans😉 We left this hotel in tears and we already miss the friendly staff❤️

Faro bar was closed during my stay. This was not communicated to me prior to my arrival or even during check in. Sure, they’ll get you a drink from the restaurant if you ask. And you can drink it in the lobby, where there’s zero atmosphere!
When asked about the bar closure staff were evasive! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Utterly overpriced. For the amount they’re charging there are other hotels in Positano with far better facilities.

Both negative and positive feedback are such important for us because they give us a precious chance to improve the services we offer. However, the aim of this answer is to outline some points of your letter. Faro Bar was simply moved into the restaurant area and the waiter and bartender were happy to serve you the cocktails you requested in a stunning location chosen from a lot of guests to have an aperitif before or after dinner. Our staff was not evasive at all. We just invited you to visit our restaurant to have a drink. If Faro Bar was open, it could happen that no external or internal guests were drinking at the same time you wanted so it could happen it was empty. So we do not know what kind of atmosphere you were looking for. As we already told you we serve cocktails to all the guests who express their willingness to drink in the lobby instead of the restaurant and we organize Wine Time in the afternoon in the same location. I wish to remind you that you did not express your opinion during your stay at our receptionist. If you were able to do so, the manager would have been more than happy to give you explanations in person and not replying to a negative review after your stay. Hotel Montemare is characterized for the excellence of its services and the price you paid reflects the professionalism of our staff, the perfection of details, delicious food and memorable cocktails. We had an incredible experience at Hotel Montemare. Our driver was able to drop us off right at the entrance, where there is an elevator down to the lobby if you have luggage. At check in we were greeted with welcome cocktails to enjoy on the terrace while they made sure our room was ready to go. We were escorted to our room, which was a Deluxe Sea View King with balcony. They wrote us a nice note congratulating us on our honeymoon with champagne. Their staff was so helpful everyday with directions to the beach etc, and provided us with beach towels each day. We really enjoyed the Fornillo beach, which was less crowded/busy than the main beach. Every morning their breakfast was incredible, the best fresh orange juice we’ve ever had. Each night they left us a thoughtful “goodnight” treat or message. The views are unforgettable, but the service was also incredible. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Positano.

My fiancee and I had a wonderful time at this hotel. We were there for four nights and booked the Deluxe Double Room. The facilities are wonderful and the staff members are very attentive. The hotel is recently renovated so the public areas were also clean and modern. I would highly recommend this hotel to any couples visiting the area. The location is also very convenient; it is a walkable distance to many restaurants. Our only recommendation to the hotel is that it should consider installing faster WiFi. We would have most certainly extended our stay and work from there for a few days if the WiFi was faster. That being said, we had a wonderful time and we know that you will too.

outrageous behavior of staff, particulary a person called Katia. i was unlucky enough to have her as my contact when i wanted to make a reservation. She has no understanding of english (written and spoken) and most importantly of the concept of customer service and care. Impolite, unresponsive to questions, lazy. I reserved a double deluxe room with sea view in July 2022 and was given one with partial sea view, only to know later that the difference in tarifs is huge! 2000€ for 5 nights, and the hotel is unwilling to reimburse me. just disgusting behavior even in the way she replied to the question. she is obviously uneducated and ignorant. what is worse is that no other decent person from the hotel staff replied or took over the matter even though the email adress is generic if the client wanted to ask questions. well i guess they are a long long way from the concept of customer service we are used to in France, the Middle east and the Gulf. STAY AWAY!

This place is perfect. It’s easy to get to. Right on the main road in the beginning of Positano. A lot of other places require a long steep walk down stairs with your baggage. They have a elevator. Gelato and Pizza really close, nice restaurants close. It is immaculately clean. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. Wonderful experience.
They will help you with anything you need! My wife left her phone in Sorrento and one of the wonderful female concierge (I feel horrible that I can’t remember her name!) drove all the way to our last hotel to pick up the phone and deliver it to us free of charge!! We were shocked!
The views are incredible, we had a private hot tub and grassy terrace to ourselves! The breakfast was incredible! Best place we stayed!

Hi. It was somewhere over 300 steps up from the wharf, which sounds horrendous but in Positano terms not that bad! It was about a ten minute walk to get to the start of town down the road and while there is a hill to walk back up it is a relatively easy climb.
There are more places to choose from in the Positano area.
