Location is wonderful.
Service is superb.
We come to Positano every year for the last 22 years.
I can compare and say that this hotel and family owned it are the best you can get in Positano today.
The beach is secluded and as such private and not overrun - the sea is balmy and the area is very clean. The views from the terrace and the bedrooms are stunning and the service very friendly
Reception could be more helpful - there was for instance a fire and the road to Praiano was closed which means there was no bus to go to Amalfi for 2 days. Reception was unable to inform us about alternatives and only gave the advice to book a taxi for 60 Euro to get to Sorrento
Could they not take a bit more responsibility for the lack of infrastructure? No help with luggage was offered and generally the information sharing at the check in was sparse
I did not know that as a hotel guest one still had to pay 15 Euros for the deckchair like all the day trippers and that as a guest one got 10 % when having a meal at the hotel
Our stay at Hotel Pupetto could not have been further from that. What we found was one of the most beautiful, calm, friendly and graceful places that we have ever visited.
We had a driver bring us down from Naples and the Pupetto team sent a porter to meet us, high above the hotel. He loaded our large, heavy bags onto a trolley and carted them down the ramp, stairs and elevator that takes you down from the road to the hotel.
As we descended we realised what a piece of paradise we were arriving into. The terrace of the hotel sits one level above the beach and the vista of that broad, generous and elegant terrace opens up to the view all the way from the cliffs of Praiano. The combination of bougainvillea covered terrace that then runs into the white arched, main dining area creates a vast outdoor space where breakfast, lunch and dinner can be eaten while watching the super yachts coming and going and the fishing boats bobbing. Add to that, the food and service is superb, including the extensive buffet breakfast.
We also loved the beach club and bar with excellent salads, pizzas and pastas . All of it is conveniently just a few steps from your room and the staff are so friendly, courteous and helpful
Our room was very clean and simple and opened to a small terrace. We slept like babies.
We found the best thing about Pupetto was that while just a 5 min walk to the main harbour through a delightful, well paved path, this place is tucked away from the crowds of day visitors who descend into the main part of town each day. We were so sad to leave and will definitely return.
Service at the hotel is great…..very accommodating and friendly.
The biggest downside of the hotel is that, since it is located at beach-level, you have to walk down 230 steep steps to access it, or take another longer route, down some steps and steep inclines. That also means you have to climb up steep inclines and steps (about .87 of a mile), to access the upper town and public/private transportation. If you’re older and suffer from knee problems, this is a big issue!
Here are some other things to consider before booking this hotel:
1. It is only a 3-star, so accommodations are roomy but rather sparse and the lighting in the room is poor.
2. Smoking is not permitted in your room but you can smoke on your terrace. Unfortunately that means that everyone else gets your cigarette smoke on their terrace and in their room if the sliding glass door from their room to their terrace is open. This happened to us.
3. The shower is so small that you can’t bend down in it.
4. There is a private beach for the hotel, but you have to pay to use it. We were not able to find any mention of this on the hotel website.
5. Our sleep was interrupted every night by strange, loud, repetitive noises. Management was sympathetic to our concerns but were not able to provide any solutions. In all fairness, they did make an adjustment to our room rate.
Stay at Hotel Pupetto for the views and location, but not for the amenities or the steps.
The bed was very hard and uncomfortable, we suffered the first night. But the next day reception was able to locate a foam pad for the bed which made it SO much better, they also gave us extra pillows as requested.
Location wise it was great being right on the beach. We did two beach days and it was ao convenient to have the Beach Club and be able to charge drinks and food to the room. We dined in the restaurant 2 of the nights to avoid the walk into town, it was convenient having it there. Breakfast was very nice, fresh espresso drinks and a buffet style with a good variety of items.
I chose this hotel for the proximity to the beach as well as the lack of steps to get to it (my husband has terrible knees). The path to town is fairly easy but does have slight climbs in both directions. Behind the hotel are stairs to get to the town center and man…I didn’t realize how much I need to get back to the gym until I started climbing. The hotel has a sister property, the Hotel Vittoria, and if you cut through and take their lift to lobby level you can avoid a lot of those stairs.
If you want a spot removed from the Positano hustle then this is a good choice. If you want to be in the middle of it all probably not so much. After going into town a couple of nights I wasn’t sure if we’d have preferred staying higher up and in the center but we did also really enjoy the super relaxing feel of it being a nice beach resort. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the property is beautiful!
We spent our vacation mostly in Sorrento, but decided to take a tour to Positano and didn’t want to be in a hurry to return there in the evening. So we booked pretty spontaneously.
As we arrived in the morning way before check in time, we were given one of the warmest, heartfelt welcome greetings during our whole trip. Our room wasn‘t ready of course, but the wonderful receptionist immediately gave us towels off we went to the private beach. The water was clear, the sunbeds comfortable, and the atmosphere so calm and serene that we decided to stay at the beach until the afternoon instead of sightseeing. For lunch we got the most delicious pizza fresh from the oven and a chilled rosé to our sunbeds - absolute bliss!
The whole hotel is decorated in a colourful Italian retro style, which I absolutely adore - with hand painted majolika tiles, paired with white walls and furniture. Exactly what comes to mind when you hear the name Positano. The hotel is so close to the beach, that when you leave the terrace doors open at night, you fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves.
In the evening we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. Imagine fresh fish, perfect recommendations from the super friendly waiting staff, beautifully arranged plates, and all of this with a sea view.
If you want to stay at Positano, and not in the hustle of the centre, but with more calm and still within walking distance to everything, Hotel Pupetto is the perfect choice. We will definitely come back, and next time for at least a week.
Mille grazie, Pupetto!
The restaurant of the hotel is worth a visit even when you are not staying at the hotel: pizzas in the wood fire oven, pasta cooked and presented with so much attention, high end fish directly from the sea, super tasty meat dishes and everything is super delicious. For desert, go for the Chocolate surprise! I promise, you will be … surprised!
Hotel Pupetto’s location is ideal in a Positano overrun by tourists (as ourselves) as it is a little off the touristic walk paths but still only 10 minutes walking from the port and city center.
Breakfast was good.
Stayed 4 nights in the hotel as a couple, and we was pleased with the service offered by the hotel.
The location is right on a quiet beach, we swimmed in the fresh clear blue water of the Amalfi Coast.
Pusitano, in oure opinion, is more clean and exclusive than the other areas of the coast.
We will look foreward to return to Positano.
Such a beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Perfect if you want to be tucked away from the town of Positano but still close as a short walk away.
The restaurant and gardens were absolutely beautiful and it was a pleasure to have our breakfast their with an amazing view of the sea.
The rooms were simple but very comfortable and had everything you needed for your stay, the best part was opening the balcony doors to the sea view - just wow!
The staff are very friendly and couldn't of been more helpful. We had a very relaxing stay as a couple and would absolutely love to come back again with our children.
We loved the beach too, very chilled vibe and the drinks & food were very good and very reasonably priced compared to town itself.
We squeezed in a day trip to Capri, easy 30min boat trip away which I would definitely recommend.
Thank you so much Pupetto for a wonderful stay :)
"There’s no avoiding the crowd especially around this time. We came early in the season so did the other tourist.😂 . It was worth visiting."Read full review
