I spent many many hours searching online for a hotel in Positano! My friend and I were traveling on a medium budget, and wanted to celebrate my birthday on site. I ended up coming across Dimora Fornillo, and booked it. I definitely do not regret it! The hotel is small (8 rooms, I believe?) but very functional. It’s located above Fornillo beach, which for us was the best beach in Positano (we didn’t like the main large beach). Quite a few stairs to go up from the beach to the hotel, but that’s how Positano is built anyway, so you don’t really have a choice. The room was super large (we got upgraded by Andrea for my birthday - MASSIVE THANK YOU!), and we also had access to a great terrace overlooking the sea... a real highlight! The room had aircon which was a real plus. Breakfast was included, and to die for! A lot of options, the food and drinks were super fresh, and the setting (in the garden overlooking the sea) was top notch! Last but definitely not least: ANDREA! She is one of the staff members that works at the hotel - she pretty much does everything except housekeeping, from emails to serving at breakfast. She handled our emails beautifully after we made the reservation, and recommended us places to go to which were great. She was super knowledgeable, welcoming, and her level of English was sensational. Nothing was too much trouble for her, and meeting her at breakfast was what made us smile throughout the day! She had great attention to detail, and even remembered my birth day! She brought me a cupcake with a candle on the day. Such a nice touch! We had a feeling the owner of the hotel doesn’t really realise how good this lady is with her guest, but that’s just our opinion :) Andrea, we truly thank you for making our stay in Positano so special! We will definitely return to this hotel if we go back to Positano. Emilie & Olive

My wife and I spent 3 nights here and it was absolutely perfect. All the rooms have stunning views of the sea and the hillside. All the rooms (we looked in several) were functionally decorated but spacious and having an "open" feel to them. Most had a separate room that was like having a suite. Without fail, the staff was extremely helpful and took care of our every need, including a late night snack one night. Breakfast was really good and included meats and cheeses and cereal and yogurt and a lot of choices of fresh fruit and pastries. The only problem with breakfast is that it was hard to concentrate on the food when you had probably the most beautiful breakfast view I have ever experienced. Be prepared! When you arrive, you will absolutely struggle to find the place a little bit, but you will eventually locate it. Look for the signs on the walls on your way down the stairs. There is a very functional metal gate leading into the property, but once you are in, the rest is beautiful. If you have never been to Positano, you should also be prepared to climb stairs....lots of stairs... no really LOTS of stairs. We enjoyed our stay very much and would not hesitate to stay here again. We highly recommend this.

Fantastic views! Great breakfast. Amazing location down 10 min of stairs to Fornillo beach (the quieter and nicer of the 2 main Positano beaches). You cannot drive or be driven to the hotel!! Pack light and haul your bags down 10 min of stairs from the toad. A lore tee can come from the hotel and help you if you call. It is WORTH It though !!

We stayed at Dimora Fornillo for 6 nights. We arrive early evening to a very warm welcome and offered drinks and a snack from Michele. The cases were carried down the many steps by Giuseppe. The rooms are kept very clean by Concetta the lovely cleaning lady (beware the tiled bathroom floor, it’s very slippery when wet), the location and views are stunning. Breakfast is continental buffet consisting of meats, cheese, croissants, bread, jams, yogurts, juices and coffee, all very good, plus the banter with Michele in the morning was always welcome. You would need to be reasonably fit to cope with all the steps up and down to the hotel from the road and to the beach. There are trips to Sorrento, Capri, and the Amalfi coast by ferry from the harbour. Would defiantly stay again and recommend to anyone. Thankyou Vincenzo, Michele, Giuseppe and Concetta for a very memorable stay, hope to see you all again one day.

Stayed here for 2 nights in June in room 57. The superior room cost 264 euro per night. Nice enough hotel but improving in a few areas would help. Pros Large room (superior room) Nice balcony with view Good air con Comfortable bed Small fridge that works well Drinks available downstairs to buy and take back to the room and enjoy on the balcony The guy who helped take our luggage up to our transport on the Main Street is a godsend. Thank you!! Garden to have breakfast is nice Close to Fornillo Beach which is quieter and cheaper than the main beach, we enjoyed it there. We were able to check in straight away at 1130am which was great. Cons Shower very small Shower water pressure not strong Shower ran out of water and did not work a couple of times. Reported this to the staff. Came back from a morning run very sweaty and needing a shower so frustrating when no water comes out. Half an hour later it worked to some degree at least enough for a quick wash. Breakfast was ok. Typical Italian buffet breakfast but not as good as we had elsewhere. Had croissants, cold meats, fruit, yoghurt etc so did the job though If you don’t like cats, there are two that will hang around you at breakfast waiting for food. They are not aggressive or anything though. Difficult walk with luggage from the port if arriving by ferry. Apparently you can book a porter for 15 euro per bag but we did not see them at the port. Probably best to book ahead of time for this service if you are not able to carry your luggage up quite steep steps. Alternatively you can walk some distance and get a bus up to town and walk down steps but we did not do this.
