This hotel is in very poor repair and has obviously not been updated for 25 years. This could be acceptable if it was appropriately priced and if it was clean. Sadly neither were the case. Our bedroom was grubby and the loose stair carpet in the public area had clearly not been hoovered for months. Our bed was really uncomfortable and the breakfast was poor. Overall it was a very unpleasant stay.

Hotel Cristal is a wonder place to stay any time of year. It is situated just outside Roccaraso and short drive to the smaller village of Pietransieri, Italy. We know the area is a popular ski resort to which Hotel Cristal is perfectly suited and situated but staying there is quite enjoyable any time of the year; especially during festival events that occur in both towns throughout. Antonio, Ernestina with their daughter Valentina operate the hotel. They are very friendly and accommodating hosts. If you have your meals in the hotel restaurant, you will find delightful meals of varied Italian and Abruzzo specialties; all prepared under watchful eyes of Ernestina. The dining area is spacious and has room for just about any number of family and or friends for dinner. The rooms are also spacious and have all the necessary amenities. Most rooms have double doors opening onto a small balcony. Outside the restaurant is a large dining, sitting or lounging area. In the lobby, is a small but fully stocked bar with plenty of side tables situated on either side of the main entrance? We have stayed here many times and highly recommend Hotel Cristal for rooms or dining.…

It took us a while to find the hotel as it wasn't where Google was showing it to be and it wasn't lit up at night so we kept missing it. Once inside the staff were really really helpful despite our complete lack of Italian and their broken English. The room was clean and functional but the mattresses were beyond belief - I've never slept on anything harder even when camping. This was a shame to an otherwise interesting hotel - food was fine, service good. We had booked the hotel because of its roof hot tub however it wasn't open in February which was a shame. I would recommend the hotel, but it's not within working distance of Roccaraso so if you want more nightlife stay more central.
