Absolutely awful business. I attempted to book online and received an error message and ultimately gave up. No charges were filed to my card at the time and I received no email confirmation of booking. Later during my trip (while at the other hotel that I had successfully booked), I received a notification on my phone that the hotel had charged my card. I re-checked my email to be sure that I hadn't made a mistake and again, there was no booking confirmation and no evidence at all that the room had ever been booked. I reached out to them and they said I was charged the full price for the room because that is their no-show policy. I explained to them what had happened with the website and that I had no records of a booking to which they replied that I should have canceled. I again explained that I could not cancel a room for which I had no evidence of ever booking on my end. They repeatedly told me that it's my fault for not canceling despite refusing to acknowledge that I had no confirmation of this hotel at all. Who knows what other nightmares await if you book with these awful people.…
The hotel is at a good location with a great views. It is old and it needs a good renovation. It is unfortunately very sad that such a hotel at such location is not taken care and maintained. Prices of drinks and food are very expensive for what you get.
We are at the Hotel now for 3 nights and absolutely love it. We appreciate the ago of 150 Years and the fact that one family has owned this hotel that entire time. Our room is large and glorious with huge windows That open to the city of Sanremo. The bathroom is a special treat that can not be replicated in new Hôtel structures. Large & completely marble and again the large Windows that open …. Yes the room has padded wallpaper and yards of drapes but that was the era and it is all done in good taste. The bed is very comfortable with crisp cotton white bedding. Breakfast which is included in the price is served as a lovely buffet in their ballroom with Murano Glass chandeliers and Murano Flowers all along her ceiling molding. Again all white fabric chairs and linens. The B’fast is delicious .. The position of the hotel is overlooking the sea across the street from the beach. And Easy walk into pedestrian shopping area 10 min away. We can not think of 1 thing to criticize here. Oh and I forget to mention the lovely newly upgraded Spa facilities. 👍🏻 also great and a small and well Pointed gym. Can’t miss and the value for money is excellent now. Thank You !! We had a perfect stay !…
Today 150 years anniversary, compared others old hotels, they try to keep it in a good condition. The must of Royal Hotel is the position with pool in front of the see , 10 minutes walking from the pedestrian area and the staff, very kind and professional. I suggest sea view room.
I've stayed at this hotel many times The good Wonderful historic hotel high enough to look over the sea Large rooms Very good staff Heated pool The bad The beds are as hard as a plank No tea of coffee making in the room The Standard of food in the very expensive restaurant is not great Summary Wonderful large historic hotel with great service, easy access to the ton for shopping and resturants. Avoid if you need a softer bed as you will not get a good sleep. Enjoy the view, the history and living in a large historic hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and loved it very much. We had the junior suite and they upgraded us to another one with a balcony. The location is perfect, easy to walk to the downtown area, tons of shopping and eateries. The hotel staff was super nice and very professional. One thing to note, we did not have good WiFi and that was annoying however, the management went out of their way, trying to fix it. It seemed like it was an issue just in this room, I'm sure they will rectify it in the future. Breakfast was amazing, and the pool refreshing as it was pretty hot.
A beautiful hotel with a lot of good soft service but unfortunately not enough, in order to rate it with five points. Location is excellent. Outdoor pool and garden are very lovely. We loved the breakfast buffet and the service of staff. What an experience to sit on the terrace and enjoy the breakfast every morning with that view and that mild climate. After being a Leaders club member for over 14 years and visiting many many leading hotels around the world one thing I have noticed is that a very good breakfast experience is so often hard to offer. At this hotel they nailed it for three days. The fourth day we had breakfast in room and that did NOT meet our expectations. The bread option was not so good and no cheese platter or similar was served. But it was delivered on time and by a very polite man. On the last evening I called room service and for the first time ever something odd happened. The man who answered the phone told me he would call me back. About five minutes later he calls back and takes the order. This was pretty strange and also he did neither apologize for the inconvenience when he answered nor when he called back. We had a Junior suite mountain view and a Superior room with sea view and balcony. Both of them were very lovely. One strange thing…It was the first time there was no paper and pen in the room. One of the rooms had tissues in the bathroom and the other did not. When one of us forgot the slippers by the pool, the room attendant did not replace them with a new pair by the bed (which other Leading hotels normally would do). Do not waste your money and time going to the poolside restaurant. The prices are too high and service not good enough. Several excellent places for lunch or dinner are a short walk from the hotel. The front desk team are very good! The team at the front door helping with the luggage and car park are also very very good! A big plus is that the parking for your car is for free if you choose the side with no roof. The one with roof, 17€/night. Unfortunately did not have the chance to try the SPA, will do that next time :)…
Always such a pleasure to return to the Royal, an old-world hotel that knows how to keep up with the times. We have been coming here for many years, and it has never let us down. Some previous reviewers have criticized the breakfast. We have stayed at a number of world class hotels scattered across the globe, and the Royal’s breakfast is outstanding, and certainly ranks among the very best! The beautiful pool area, right out of a grand MGM musical, is built on several levels, making it architecturally and aesthetically special, and at the same time minimizing any sense of crowdedness. Francesco, the pool manager, is your supreme professional. Any grand hotel would be thrilled to have him! As fine as the rooms and the common areas may be, it is the staff that really create a hotel’s personality. The Royal’s personnel is top notch. From the aforementioned Francesco at the pool, to Grace at the gift shop, Ivan at breakfast, and Fabio at the bar, everyone is extremely warm and helpful. A special bravo for Jose at the evening lobby bar who really knows how to make his clients feel appreciated.…
Booked directly with the hotel. Fast & Easy. Staff was very kind. Large room, with early ‘900 fashion. We needed a baby-bed and wasn’t an issue. Great service, which includes complimentary water and evening housekeeping. Well positioned. Nice pool and parking.
Just came back from three nights at this grand old hotel which felt like I had walked onto the set of a Sophia Loren film from the 1960/70's. To say this has old world charm is an underestimate and it just blew me away in such an unexpected way, which makes writing this review so hard. First off, I suppose I must issue a warning; if you are expeting modern, state-of-the-art facilities then you really need to book elsewhere. If you are looking for the biggest rooms, the quietest pool area or a young, trendy crowd, then ditto. If however, you want to experience genuine old-school, under-stated elegance, super-attentive service, a hotel with a unique personality and style then you really need to come and stay. As I said, this review is hard to write; we had a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the sea which was small but functional; material-lined walls, wood panelling throughout with a reasonably sized bathroom. The wooden floors in the room creaked when walked on but there was virtually no other sounds from the corridors or below or above. Bed was firm but very comfortable. Breakfast was served in a high-ceilinged and ornate ball-room; white clad waiters with white table-cloths; wonderfully old-fashioned. The pool was free-form, salt water with a diving board...again, they don't make them like that any more and the ice flannels handed out during the day was a lovely touch. Sanremo itself is a lovely town with great restaurants and a laid-back vibe. I would highly recommend hiring a bike and heading off on the old (now covered) railway track...car free and safe, it takes in old tunnels and beautiful views. To summarise, we have stayed in some fantastic hotels around the world, many have been cheaper, had better facilities, better views, food and rooms. But I have never stayed anywhere quite like the Royal and we fell in love with this grand old dame and know we will return in the future to find this time capsule wonderfully unchanged.…
