My husband and I stayed at Hotel Margherita for 3 nights in May. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the town of Sant Agnello. We enjoyed a beautiful view from the balcony. Although there was no airconditioning, we had windows on 3 sides, which gave us great cross venelation, we actually used the blanket. Yes, there is constant traffic noise, but no worse than any of the other little towns in Italy.
The hotel is family owned and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They will tell you it is a 10 minute walk to Sorrento, which is an exageration since it took us a good half hour. It was a pleasant walk even though the pedestrian path can get a little close to the highway. We also felt very safe walking back to the hotel late at night. You can always take the bus for a nominal fee.
Just down the hill is a little bar and restaurant that overlooks the water and is a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset. Right next door there is a more reasonable restaurant that serves very authentic and reasonable Italian food.
Brealfast at the hotel consisted of corn flakes, croissants, pound cake, a small assortment of fruit, fruit juices and coffee or tea. The waiter was friendly although he did not speak much English. The restaurant at the hotel was temporariily closed so we were not able to experience it.
Although there was no internet access at the hotel, you could use a calling card from your room with no additional charge. We highly recommend the calling cards as the least expensive way to call the states.
The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the railway station. There is a small bar located right outside of the station and they are happy to direct you to the Hotel Margherita. The walk could be difficult if you have a lot of luggage.
Overall we give Villa Margherita a thumbs up and would stay there again.

Even in the last week of September Sorrento is a busy, noisy, touristy place and unless you pay top dollar or stay on the outskirts of town, you can't avoid all-night traffic noise.

The Villa Margherita is not in Sorrento proper, but in Sant'Agnello (25 minute walk to Sorrento), so get off at the Sant'Agnello train station (10 minute walk to the hotel). We found the rooms lovely with wonderful high ceilings(although the bathrooms were small), the breakfast very good (yogourt, cereal, croissants, fresh juic), and the staff wonderfully helpful (held a bag for us for a week when we went further down the Amalfi; helped us deal with a three hour runaround from Lufthansa by surfing the net for us).

Like almost every hotel in Sorrento in this price range, there is traffic noise. Nothing earplugs won't manage. For dinners we took the train in to Sorrento at night, which was very easy if you have a schedule. The Hotel is 5 minutes from the ocean and we found a lovely dock to swim off by following a ramp underneath the beachside bar.

If you don't like to walk however, this hotel is not an ideal choice. Otherwise, expect a clean, friendly experience away from some of the tourist kitch in the rest of Sorrento.

The Margherita Hotel is basic but clean and the staff a little distant but polite and helpful. It is quite convenient to the railway station (15 min walk) and about 25 mins from the centre of Sorrento. The two main drawbacks to the Margherita are the food and the traffic noise.

The breakfast ends at 9am and never changed for our entire fortnight, consisting of cornflakes, 1 croissant and a dinner roll(!), no yogurts, no eggs, no cheese and no cold meat. The dinners were standard NHS hospital-type fare only with smaller quantities. By the end of the first week hunger and boredom had driven most guest out to eat in nearby restaurants.

There is a lot of traffic noise which obviously the Hotel has no control over.
It is situated on a corner where two busy roads meet and there is also a speed bump outside the front door. The noise from passing buses and the twenty-four procession of motor scooters made sleep very difficult.

Sorrento is ideal for a sight-seeing holiday but you would be better spending a little more money to go to an hotel on the outskirts of the town. It would be worth it for your nights sleep and you would recoup the extra cost by not having to spend money eating out.

After.a shakey start when the taxi driver took us to the Villa Margherita, which is under renovation by mistake what a lovely discovery at the top of a very traditional building, large windows with shutters and a huge entrance with 4 flights of steps, no lift, you reach a beautiful roof top paradise, with a gorgeous terrace, and all round perfect views where you can watch the sunrise and the sunset. The apartment is very well clean and well equipped with the basic complimentary supplies. It is very tastefully decorated, very comfortable living. It is situated in the centre of Sant Agnello near the lovely church and bell tower which strikes every quarter hour. Their are several restaurants, shops in the square below you and a very regular bus service the train station is also very close. I was very impressed with my choice, the owners could not have helped us more.

I stayed at the Villa margherita for the first week in november last year. I was travelling alone and stella and her daughters made my visit very pleasant indeed. My room had an amazing view over the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. The room was spotless and attended to every day. The breakfast had a good selection of breads and cereals juices, fruit tea and coffee. As it was off season the restaurant was closed but they sent me to a gem of a restaurant called moonlight just 5 mins walk away.
The hotel is in a very safe area and as a woman alone I never felt unsafe walking around the area at night. It is in a quiet street only 3 mins walk from the beach.
I would recommend this hotel for value and friendliness of staff and of course cleanliness.
I would go back in a heartbeat.

This is a great little hotel with friendly/helpful staff, wonderful views of the Med and well located on a quiet residential street. It's only 100 yds or so from the beach. It has a restaurant on premises, but it's closed off-season so the desk clerk recommended Ristorante Moonlight, a non-touristy, neighborhood restaurant only a couple blocks walk, which was marvelous.

stayed here as my original booked hotel was changed at the last minute. it is very clean, but, the food is very variable sometimes OK sometimes not. The staff are very nice, the management need some training in management skills, no proper welcome, no thank you on departure, any queries made you feel as if you were intruding, too many family members/children visiting, extremely noisy, inside and out, plus dogs who occasionally foul the stairways. No one to serve pre-dinner drinks, also if you have drinks from the bar, get a chit, as I was overcharged big time, I brought it to their attention, but it was never put right. Rooms/sanitary ware in dire need of updating. Check out the dining room, one area (posh) for Italian or American guests, one area for those single people who dare to travel, and the rest for the Brits. No no never again

I stayed at Villa Margherita for 5 nights in May and found it to be clean and simple, with the staff being friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the location of St.Agnello, as it's not as touristy or as busy at Sorrento. I found the walk to Sorrento only about 15-20minutes at most, rather than the 30minutes quoted by another reviewer. The bus stops are very conveniently located and the hotel has listings of times of buses/trains and details of various excursions. I would happily recommend this hotel and plan to return there when i'm next visiting Sorrento.

If anyone is still looking to book, this hotel seems to have changed its name to Hotel Crawford. I spent ages trying to track it down after staying here a few years ago, and I finally found it under the new name! I am guessing it has possibly changed management, although I'm not certain, so I'll put a new review up after my trip.
