We stayed at this hotel in Sant A’gnello for a week whilst we were in Sorrento in June. For us, it did everything we could have asked for, the slightly outside central location (a 20-30min walk to Sorrento town centre/beaches) that we used as a base for our holiday to Sorrento.
Our room was a double room, it was basic but did what we needed. We had a balcony which faced towards an apartment complex, a bathroom which the shower was always warm and we had no issues with and a double bed, which was two twin beds pushed together but did not impact our holiday at all.
The room was tidied most days and the hotel cleaned, the cleaners were always happy to provide extra towels. The only thing we would complain about is that the sheets weren’t changed in the week that we were there, but we also didn’t request they be changed either.
Inside the room we had a little fridge, which was one of the saviours of our holiday and air con. The air con was fab until the Friday, when a power cut made it stop and it didn’t quite return to working fully by the time we left on the Saturday morning. The power cut was also inconvenient, but cannot be blamed as there was roadworks nearby which caused this. It would have been nice if the staff had alerted us to this planned power cut, but the power was back by midday.
The pool was nice, although it does not have a shallow end and is decently deep but does its job. There are jacuzzis on the rooftop terrace, which does offer some lovely views of the sea and Mt Vesuvius.
We only had breakfast, which was fine for what we wanted. We enjoyed the croissants, but there is a cafe which is a 5 minute walk away which does good coffee, gelato and pastries. Along with that there are also a few restaurants nearby which serve lovely meals (Peppinos and Il Ruttino which does a fantastic pizza and takeaway too).
The staff, on the whole, were very kind and welcoming- especially as we missed our transfer and arrived at the hotel at about 1:30am. We called ahead and we were given the key to our room, the staff left all the extra bits for the next day due to how tired we were and we could not thank them enough for that.
Every evening we were welcomed by an older gentleman who worked the night shift and he charmed us with his singing. We also had the best limoncello spritz in Sorrento thanks to the magic ingredient.
Overall, this hotel was perfect for what we were looking for (and paid for). We managed to go into town and go to Capri, the Blue Grotto, Pompeii and Herculaneum whilst we were there and enjoyed the beaches and the town centre of Sorrento. This hotel is near a main road, a pharmacy and a supermarket. I will say if you intend on walking into Sorrento be aware that some of the road has not got pavements but the train is very close by.
Thank you so much for the stay, and I’m sure we’ll be back again someday.
The rooms are small but you don’t come to sorrento to stay in your room.
Hotel staff were lovely. Always happy.
Given we stayed during Covid-19 the hotel was very quiet, often only Two or three couples eating in the dining area.
The food was lovely and plentiful. Plenty of choice and the fish dishes were lovely.
The roof top terrace was nice, especially to come to after a day of site seeing to catch the last rays. It was a Pity the hot tubs were not in use but due to Covid I can understand why.
The breakfast was a buffet but it had limited choice, a lot of processed products and coffee was terrible. The evening meal on Tuesday improved slightly but still served on cold plates and poor presentation, we didn’t get a choice of sweet, we were just handed a plate or bowl with chopped up fruit, ice cream or Tiramisu.A lot of the food was towards the cheap end, the hotel was 3 star with Jet2 but had 4 stars on hotel sign! The hotel was refurbished in 2017 and was nicely decorated throughout, the only thing lacking was atmosphere, the restaurant is in the basement next to kitchen, no windows, the tables were laid up and cleared efficiently but not what were have been used to. We didn’t have any great expectations for this hotel on arrival and for the price, but during the week we got use to it. Most British guests had at least one or two meals out, the Italian hiking group which was staying the week on a set menu didn’t mind the food, at least they brought a bit of atmosphere - even though we couldn’t understand them.
If you want a reasonably priced hotel near Sorrento I would recommend it, just don’t go half board-eat out. Also be aware that the train line runs right past hotel, it didn’t bother us and the trains stop after 10.30
Local transport is safe and cheap.
The hotel is family run and the rooms are probably the cleanest we’ve ever stopped in, cleaned daily by Giuseppina and Tatiana
The food is fresh and adequate if your stay is half board and will save you money should you wish to eat out more lavishly, Franco make no mistake is in charge of the restaurant and will often tell you where to sit,I found him to be a very charming funny character !
Luigi on reception is eve-ready to help.
This is a family run hotel and everyone of them , invests a lot of personal time and effort to ensure the guests enjoy and are comfortable with their stay, something which I think they have achieved
Would definitely recommend
If you’re looking for staff that goes above and beyond then this is the place for you Luigi made sure that he helped me with my plans for the next days tours and transportation come and pick me up every single day that I asked him to.
They had a great breakfast with a lot of stuff welcome cocktail for us as soon as we arrived. The train station is right next to the hotel and it’s one stop away from Sorrento we actually walked home one night.
They actually upgraded my room tow balcony room and did not charge me for it it was a beautiful view of the mountains such a nice location close to the water.
My cell phone charger decided to break on me the last night that we were there and Luigi and his staff had a bucket full of phone cords they went through to find one that would fit my phone and lent it to me for overnight use to charge my phone I mean what other place would do that for you!
I will definitely come back and stay at this hotel as everything is within walking distance and the staff and the food were amazing above and beyond thank you so much and I hope to see you all soon!
In terms of current events and safety, all hotel staff wore masks, shops, bars and restaurants were the same and in fact it felt safer than at home. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.
The hotel staff were superb from the moment I walked in with my welcome cocktail to the day I left. They all followed the Covid rules and I always felt safe during my stay.
The food was great, breakfast is basic but they would cook you an omelette each morning with I topped up with a bit of cheese and salami from the self service section.
Evening meals were great, you chose from a selection of starters and mains on breakfast and they were tasty and plentiful.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody who doesn't mind staying just outside of Sorrento in the knowledge you could easily get there by foot or train.
"The higher rooms on the street side rather than the pool side give a better view of Mount Vesuvius. The balconies are bigger as well."Read full review
