Where to start? For one: all the reviews you read about the hotel are true. The good ones and the bad ones. It is very much ‘old glory with holes in it’ and their customer focus leaves something to be desired.

F&B is ridiculously expensive for what you get and they charge service fees on top of service fees etc. So make sure you realize that.

Also be careful accepting a room ‘upgrade’ to a full lake view. Some of the rooms are former bedrooms of bigger suites and are small and have just one window overlooking the lake which you can only use if you actually stand in front of it.

Also, even with temperatures of 35C, they leave the airco in your room off unless you ask for it. So do that the moment you check in as the old beast takes around 5 hrs to restore temperatures to something livable.

The pool is not outside but that is clearly stated on their site. The chairs outside are ‘ok’ but the atmosphere is a bit strange. Not very relaxing but that could just be me.

Breakfast was a disgrace and I have seen better breakfasts at motels.

What is fun about the experience is that you get all this, hurried service, etc in a palace setting. I stayed for 2 days and that was more than enough. Better hotels can be found than this. Worth at most 150 per room, 175 in a pinch. So if you can get it for that: go for it. Even if only for a laugh.

I wanted to take pictures of the room, but it was too small. By the way: showers were excellent (just very small) so no clue what those people are complaining about but I was on the first floor so that may have helped.

Whatever you do: get a balcony.

Very friendly staff, was quiet at night even though it is located in the very center of the old town. Great. I can recommend the hotel - good value for the price. Coffee and croissant were offered long after the official breakfats hours.

Hotel atmosphere (hallway, elevator, rooms) is outdated. Outside looks really good, inside is old.
Personnel was a bit cold and quiet.
Rooms are functional but for the rest nothing extra.
We didn’t use restaurant.
Doors of the hotel rooms close very hard. With other quests not caring too much about their co guests, this can be quite annoying at 7:00 am in the morning.

We stayed at the Europalace for two nights while visiting Lake Maggiore. We had a Superior Double with Lake View and it was the largest hotel room we've had in all of Europe. Very spacious, pretty and clean. It was a stone's throw from the ferry where we bought the one day pass so we easily visited the beautiful villa and gardens on Isola Bella, as well as Isola Madre, Stresa and Baveno. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Our room was on the 6th floor with steps leading up to a small balcony overlooking the Lake. I would definitely recommend this hotel if visiting Lake Maggiore.

Excellent location and beautiful views from the large room to the lake. Not brand new furnishing anymore but good value for the money. Very nice and helpful staff. Free WLAN with a decent speed. Breakfast was also above average. Would definitely go again.

Decent hotel to stay in I've found it really quiet and comfortable to be honest, it's got good wifi and the breakfast is excellent, English speaking staff and the bar although small is quite pleasant to relax in of an evening, I'd recommend it for travellers who like some peace and quiet, stunning setting by the lake too!

6 January 2012:The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and clean. The view from the room ws excellent, overlooking the lake. Specify a third or fourth floor to get a good view of the lake (large trees in front of the hotel). Wifi worked well and parking was ok (may be seasonal though). Hotel is well located with easy access to restaurants and cafes and ferry services to Stressa and the 2 smaller islands. Breakfast was typical European style with good choices. Highly recommended as a place to stay.

Myself & my partner have just returned from the Europalace. We stayed three nights on the 4th July and we paid for the upgrade to the Lake View Room. It was the best £30 we have ever spent the lake view is utterly breath taking, we had the French doors open our entire stay as you can even hear the water lapping against the shore, its perfect.

Please remember that this is a 3 star hotel, it is dated but its spotlessly clean, all the facilities are lovely (the shower gel had a gorgeous coconut scent). Bed was comfortable and the staff were lovely and helpful.

We both enjoyed the breakfast, they had a great variety including 4 or 5 cereals, meats, cheeses, breads plus pastries, hot drinks and juices. We couldn't as for more really.
This all worked out at only £68 per night, I have given it full marks as the value was just amazing.

If you want a lovely hotel right on the lake then book Europalace, its close to all the bars and restaurants in Verbania and its also only a 10 minute walk to the Lido where you can swim in beautiful Lake Maggiore!

Stayed here recently for 2 nights (our 2nd stay here). Staff are all friendly & helpful. Although the hotel is a little tired & dated, it is good for a 3* hotel. The rooms are spacious and the view from the balcony is stunning. Breakfast is continental and very good. The hotel is adequate and very clean. The location is fantastic and right on the lake. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, all within easy walking distance. We will stay here again.

We spent 2 nights here as a base for visiting Lake Maggiore. We went for a lake view room, which was on the 4th floor. The room itself was huge, although the decor looked a little dated. However, there were some modern additions, such as a tv and a large, new showerhead in the bathroom. The best thing about the room, however, was the view out onto the lake, island and mountains from the balcony.

The location is also great for visiting the lake - the boat jetty is a few minutes walk away, where you can get regular boats to Isola Bella & Madre, and the restaurants of Pallanza are also very close by. Villa Taranto is a few minutes drive away.

Breakfast was also pretty good - the usual buffet style breakfast, although the coffee was fresh and very good. Parking could be a bit of a problem if you have a car - it's on street only, and it can be quite tough finding a space close to the hotel!

Overall, this hotel is worth staying in for the location, but only if you have a lake view room.
