We stayed here on the recommendation of the local pastor. They were doing renovations at the time but didn't impact our stay. The rooms had a very homely feel that made them relaxing. David and Andrew were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Defiantly recommend for that friendly country atmosphere. Thanks for the stay guys

Stopped for lunch on a very wet day and was instantly made to feel like a regular. They have a variety of gassed beer and lager and more importantly they have two pulled ales. Both are excellent if you like English ales and are brewed locally. The barman addressed us both by name. I would be a regular if I...

Detoured to upper Moutere on a drive round the area while on holiday and decided we had to stop in for a drink. Not actually the oldest existing pub in NZ...but the Oldest pub in NZ 'still in it's ORIGINAL building', which is pretty awesome! Hubby tried a local brew and rated it pretty well. Sat outside on the deck...

My wife and I went to the Moutere Inn (NZ’s oldest pub) last night for dinner expecting to get your typical bar food. You enter this rather eclectic building through the pub, the center of most activity. The pub offers several craft beers on tap and an assortment of liquors and wines. You get service by going up to the...

My partner and I recently spent a few days at the charming Moutere Inn and we were truly delighted. Staying above the oldest pub in New Zealand made us feel part of history, and we found the rooms very spacious and comfortable, and really inexpensive compared to nearby Nelson. We were treated like family and felt completely at home... the...

We arrived on a hot sunny Sunday evening, decided to relax, have a drink & stay the night. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sun sipping our drinks and chatting, and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. The food was average to poor. .. and the room was ok & reasonably priced but we could hear the french Skype...

Sorry to hear about the Skypers in the next room. I hope they didn't go on for too long. I'm concerned that you found your meals average to poor. Please email me on info@moutereinn.co.nz with some more details of what happened so we can ensure it doesn't happen again. Thanks.

I came here with my family last sunday and I have to say, the service was terrible, the food took ages, it was busy but nobody came to explain why the food took so long. the food was ok, but cos I waited so long, maybe not worth the money.

Hello I'm sorry you've had a poor experience at the Inn on Sunday. I've replied to your other review for the same day (in the Restaurant section) where you gave us one star. Please email me on info@moutereinn.co.nz with some more details so I can look into what may have happened further. Thanks, Andrew

I often stop here on a Sunday ride with my local motorcycle club. Today the meal was quite average and a little frightening as the meat patties was not thoroughly cooked. This pub offers a wide range of drinks and local wines and they have a great menu. The problem today was that there were more whinges than praise for...

Hi. Thanks for writing a review, it sounds like you dine at the Inn regularly. I'm sorry you found our meals average on this occasion. If your experience falls below expectations again please feel free to contact me directly at 'info@moutereinn.co.nz' so I can get a few more details from you as 'average' isn't something we strive for. This place was well advertised in the ferry brochures as the oldest inn in NZ, and we were prepared to be underwhelmed as it's off the main highway. However, glad we called in, as interesting old building, great beers on hand pump, helpful staff and sociable locals. Highly recommended.
