Wonderful holiday at villas Mandarine in August 2020. Villa Laetizia - 3 bedroomed villa with pool and garden, for two adults and three teenagers. Very quiet and relaxing. It was great to combine the privacy of our own villa with hotel-quality service - fresh pastries for breakfast, daily cleaning inside and out (times for when you are out so we only met the cleaners once), fresh beach/pool towels daily, even daily cleaning of the gas barbecue. Days spent on the beach, or swimming in the Fango river, or visiting villages and wineries of the Balagne, followed by relaxing by our pool and then relaxing in the central spa. Bliss! We also made use of the free electric bikes, which were fun. Unfortunately we had to leave early due to UK Covid quarantining rules and, when we had problems with Corsica Ferries, the team at Villas Mandarine sorted it all for us. I would thoroughly recommend. Being entirely objective: this is not a cheap holiday (and we have travelled extensively and regularly spend similar amounts on holidays) and I’d say the level of “luxury” in the villas themselves is not as high as some - focus is more on light, airy, spotlessly clean and practical space. But the quality and tranquility of the space, the spa and the services is excellent and, realistically, everything you could want from a holiday in Corsica (and we have visited Corsica 8 times in 22 years). …
6.18 TGV from Redon to Montparnasse, bus shuttle to Orly - piece of cake. Bit of a bumpy flight to Calvi, there had been 3 days of thunderstorms before we arrived. We had booked a hire car and drove the 10 minutes to Mandarine. Checked in by a lovely young (to me) woman who comes from Brittany, where we live. The villa is large, airy, comfortable, well appointed - everything you would expect (but don't always get) at a 5 star place. We had paid to to have the pool heated for the week, an extravagant necessity we thought and very worthwhile. The kitchen is well appointed although the halogen hob took a bit of understanding. Large Weber BBQ outside. Very lovely and private garden with view to a field with trees, not over-looked at all. Parking in front of the villa. Very comfortable bed but we had to ditch the duvets because they were too hot. Very good shower, toilet en-suite with a separate toilet down the corridor (necessary). Furnishing are quite lavish and very comfortable. TV, wif-fi, radio, DVD, ipad music thingy. Bonus of having electric bikes to use everyday and it's a 5 minute cycle to Calvi. Gym and sauna and indoor pool looked nice but I was on holiday! This has been the best week's holiday that I can remember and we travel somewhere different quite regularly; Split (yuk), Budapest (great) the last two hollibobs - but this place and Calvi are clear winners by a Norwegian mile.…
We rented Chiaraluna a lovely private quiet 3 bedroom home with a really well set up kitchen (although we actually could have done with a teenager to work all the latest electronic gear for us!) large roomy & beautifully appointed. We were able to either cook our own meals or go out to any of the many local restaurants. Calvi is in a superb location with mountains dotted with little villages, sealed roads and walking tracks making it a biking/hiking paradise or just a beautiful town to have a relaxing holiday. The town has a lovely harbour dominated by an old fort and has convenient shopping. The staff at Villas Mandarines are very friendly and helpful and the spa centre is really beautiful and offers a perfect way to unwind after a couple of hours of hill climbing! We could not have asked for more and it certainly exceeded our expectations! …
Booking accommodation for a party of 12 adults can be daunting but I’m glad we all agreed on trying out Mandarine for a week in September. None of us had been to Corsica so it was a double leap of faith...that was richly rewarded. Corsica, Calvi in particular, was stunning and met all our needs for dining, drinking, culture and shopping but the real prize here was the Mandarine complex itself and the fantastic team that saw to everything we needed. The villas are equipped to the highest standards in private manicured lots with pools and great outdoor entertaining space. Inside the rooms are modern, clean and very well proportioned with all modern applicants and full AC. As a group of friends we have travelled pretty extensively but this is the first time we have all agreed to come back to a location and, more specifically, the same accommodation. This complex, it’s staff, location and proximity to all you need for a stress free break cannot be recommend enough. Thanks to all of the crew who made this short break a long lasting memory!…
When planning a holiday in Corsica for 2 couples, we looked at dozens of villas, in various areas, and finally settled on a villa in Domaine Villas Mandarine in Calvi, and booked through the very helpful and informative Corsican Places. We elected to go for a large 4-bedroom villa, and spent 7 nights in Villa Alysse, which features on the cover of the Villas Mandarine brochure. Although some 15 villas have been built over time in this privately owned and beautifully landscaped development, there is a total privacy and no feeling of being in a “villa complex”, apart from there being a new and superb central reception area and spa. We are 4 very experienced travellers and have stayed in holiday villas, hotels and lodges of every standard in many countries. The friends we travelled with actually own and run holiday villa developments in South-East Asia. The Villas Mandarine website and other information totally accurately portrays the design, spaciousness and facilities of Villa Alysse and it is quite simply the best equipped and serviced villa we could wish for. We had been slightly concerned at the lack of a particularly spectacular view, but the backdrop of mountains, the large garden and pool area and the closeness to Calvi’s sites and restaurants in the town and beachside, more than made up for it. Calvi’s waterfront and many restaurants are about a 35 minute walk, or very easy electric bike ride away (free), with the citadel area being a bit further. Several beachside restaurants (U Ricantu particularly recommended) are just a 15-20 minute walk or 4 minute drive away, great for an easy return after dinner. (Villas in the hills are all very well, but Corsica’s roads are narrow and twisty.) A Casino supermarket is a few minutes drive away. The Villas Mandarine owners and staff were superb, speak excellent English (although we do speak French) and were ever helpful and informative. They could not do more to make us welcome. Daily delivery of breakfast croissants and bread is offered, with a daily and totally unobtrusive villa cleaning service, the BBQ grill cleaned, and the pool maintained. This was hotel service. Corsica is beautiful, with spectacular mountains, ancient hill-top villages and outstanding coastline with the clearest and bluest water we have seen anywhere. A bit chilly for swimming in the first half of June but warming rapidly. We had driven from the UK, with ferry from Nice and back to Toulon. We drove/explored the north coast of Corsica from Saint Florent to Galeria, and several inland routes, mostly very twisty, sometimes narrow, but in better condition than we expected. We tried the train to L’Ile Rousse one day, - never again. Late, crowded and to be used for essential travel only in our experience! We ended our stay with 2 nights at the excellent Demeure Loredana hotel overlooking the beach at Saint Florent, another delightful little town with great character and harbour-front restaurants. The Popeye boat trip from there to Plage du Lotu is recommended and from there the coast path to Saleccia beach is beautiful, returning by the shorter inland path. The famous Saleccia beach was disappointing but we went for the walk not the beach. In 9 days we only saw a small corner of Corsica, - twisty roads and frequent photo stops mean you don’t get far on a day trip. We definitely want to go back, to Corsica and Villas Mandarine, avoiding the crowded mid-June to end of August period. During our stay in the first half of June, ferries, roads and restaurants were generally far from crowded and the whole atmosphere of the trip was very relaxed.…
