This was the 3rd of our stops in Corsica and by far the nicest hotel. We had asked for a sea view and, wow, what a view it was. The hotel had the feel that it had been recently refurbished and was exceptionally comfortable and, for us, ideally located. We had opted for a simple continental breakfast, but it was plentiful and freshly produced. We definitely intend to return.

Lovely people on the reception, splendid breakfast with ocean views and a view of the citadel. Clean rooms, air conditioning, all usual stuff... Right in the middle of town, not far from anything you need. A short drive to the beach. A short walk up into the old town which has not changed for hundreds of years. Catch a choral concert at the old church to take in the history. By the hotel in the evenings, small crowds gather to play pétanque, drink beer or aperol. The hotel has a lovely pool, and if you walk down the track at the side of the pool, you can clamber onto the rocks, dive in and snorkel in the salty Mediterranean sea. I will bring the family next time!

Many of the other reviews discuss some quirks of the hotel. Locked fridge and set of rules given to you. We used the safe with no problems. We stayed on a Newmarket holiday and it was one of the most enjoyable we have had. Our room faced the ocean and pool and was quite adequate if you were out during the day. We had a balcony and it was pleasant to sit there with a great view. The water was always hot and it was quiet. The staff (apart from the owner or manager - perhaps a smile and bonjour would have been nice) were most welcoming and most efficient. . Food had no choice but everything was good, especially the fish soup. Strange that you had the same fruit salad as at breakfast one day. It was good that mostly Corsican in style. Wonderful touch to have a welcome cocktail on our first night and wine was served with the meal. You should realise that Calvi is very hilly and it was quite a climb down to the town from the hotel. Corsica is a wonderful and country and Calvi a beautiful town.

There are a wide range of reviews about this hotel so to be fair I have divided my review into positives and negatives. Positives: 1. The location is superb, with views of the citadel and the sea, and within easy walking distance of the town, although it is a steep climb to return to the hotel. Calvi is a lovely town...picturesque and unspoiled. 2. The staff are really nice particularly in the restaurant and reception. The Manager/Owner ,who has been criticized in so many reviews, was rather gruff at the start, but when you took the trouble to speak in French, he was helpful, particularly in confirming a boat trip to Scandola. 3.The rooms were clean, well serviced, and our room (101) had a balcony, overlooking the good swimming pool and the citadel. It was quiet and comfortable, but with no tea/coffee facilities. Bathroom and separate toilet were modern although small. 4.All other facilities summarised by Tripadvisor are there. Negatives: 1.There is a locked fridge in the room but there is a charge of 5 euros per day for its use! There is an old safe in the room.....difficult to use...and if it goes wrong you are charged 80 euros to repair it....we did not use it! 2. Breakfast was OK, but the 'hot' food.....scrambled egg, streaky bacon and hash browns was only just warm. Served 7.15-9.00. If you are late little is left. 3. The evening meal was variable with no choice. Fortunately we had lunches in excellent Corsican restaurants, so were not dependent on the evening meal. This hotel is a good base. It was not the fault of the hotel that our tour company (Newmarket Holidays) insisted we picked up and left the coach tours at the monument about 100 metres from the hotel.

Arriving at the hotel we realised it was in a great position, cliff top, over looking the sea with the Citadel in view. Yes, the room was slightly small but certainly adequate and very clean. Very comfortable, clean beds. No tea or coffee making facility which would have been good for early risers or a bedtime drink. They have use of the refridgerator would have cost 5 Euros per day! Use of the safe but if it went wrong a cost of 80 Euros would have been charged!! Food: well there is a chapter in itself!! Canteen food, uninspiring, tasteless. One night just meat and sliced potatoes. In all two meals were adequate. A Corsican speciality was delivered one evening and our table of 8 took one spoonful and pushed it away, stale, rubbery and very unappetising. We all asked for an alternative but I was told that they could not accommodate everyone with a different dessert. The guide hearing the conversation intervened and a tinned fruit salad appeared. Breakfast: cooked was scrambled eggs and bacon, sometimes the container was sufficiently filled other times not and the wait was unacceptable. It was also often cold. Breakfast ran up until 9 am but one morning my friend did not go on a trip and went down to breakfast at 08.40 and the entire set-up had been cleared away. On enquiring she was told that everybody had been down and gone. Not everybody went on the trip. I do not drink alcohol but was not offered an alternative, i.e.. tea, fruit juice, just the water which was on the table. // The "Manager/Owner". On first sight I thought that this rather large overweight untidy looking man was the night-watchman/caretaker!! He spent the days and evenings in the reception area and took up the very small bar/lounge area constantly watching the television. When my friend received a call on her mobile, it came on loud speaker, he turned up the television. Ten minutes later at 11.35pm he turned out the lights!! On another occasion a holidaymaker received a call under the same circumstances and he shouted to the receptionist to tell to turn the off the phone!! I thought the lounge area (very very small) was for visitors and none of us wanted the television on as it was not in English. Very rude man. // We were with Newmarket Holidays but talking to a couple staying at the hotel we ascertained that they had come through Calvi Places and flew into nearby Calvi as opposed to our 2 hour journey from Bastia. They also had Bed, breakfast and Bon Appetite (four evening meals) and their food was very very different (superior) to ours in every way. The cost of this holiday for them was £400.00 cheaper than ours! // Having said all this, I liked the hotel, it was very clean, the staff were friendly when they were allowed to be (out of sight of the eagle-eyed 'manager'. Lovely views, short walk into Calvi. So, we would like to stay there again for all the right reasons but would like to eat locally so Calvi Places here we come.

This was me and my wifes third stay at St Christoph and what a change from last time, the girls on reception are very friendly, there is now a lift so you can get to the pool without going through the reception area, the dining room has had a facelift, new chairs and tables and has been repainted a very nice pastel colour. The hotel is very very clean and great value for money.

This hotel is in an excellent position in a lovely town, but needs better management. We were in Calvi 2-9 June. Although first impressions were good, the bedroom was small with no tea/coffee facilities. There is no lounge area apart from the small reception area with a bar too small for much socialisation with other guests. The safe in the room did not work despite two attempts to fix it. The worst aspect, however, was the food. We were on a half board basis through Newmarket, and there was no choice in the food whatever, which was very basic altogether. If guests did not eat fish or meat, the manager was very resistant to providing alternatives and only for the specific people who asked in advance. On one evening seven people did not want fish, but the chef had only bought five portions of chicken! There was plentiful wine on the tables, but those who did not drink alcohol were given no choice other than water, or a cup of tea (which waiters had no idea how to prepare!). Breakfast had scrambled egg and bacon available, but when any ran out they replaced it with a tiny few portions (e.g.4 strips of bacon). The Manager (Owner?) sat in the reception area all the time watching the staff who seemed to be frightened of him, although generally the staff were very polite. The hotel was generally very clean.

Stayed here for a week 22nd-29th June and really enjoyed it. Staff were very friendly and helpful partyicularly the restaurant staff. We stayed there half board 4 days and b & b 3 days. The food was outstanding some of the best I have had on a package holiday. Location of hotel excellent - near to the Citadel and and easy walk into town. Fantastic view over the citadel and the med. Lovely swimmimg pool, like stepping into a bath, perhaps could do with a few more beds. Otherwise all good
