I have lived in France for more than 30 years but this hotel is the best I have stayed at in this region of France. OK the decor and facilities of the rooms are not the most fantastic, but they are very value for money with everything one needs for a comfortable stay. I have stayed in this hotel 3 times but hope to return many more times.

We stumbled on this lovely hotel in May 22 and re-booked for this year as part of a few stops whilst driving around France. Booked on line, but contacted them to book the restaurant for both nights as it’s a separate entity. All very efficient and done in English as my French is embarrassing bad.
Checked in and they remembered us from last year, air conditioning was already on, a relief as it was a boiling day.
Had the most amazing food both evenings,. Breakfast sitting outside in the sun, and when this was too much the staff brought out parasols for shade without us even asking. Unlike the previous reviewer they have always been friendly and approachable, clearly work hard to run a busy breakfast service. Well done and hopefully we will see you in 24.

Visited Argeles sur mer several times and now stayed at the Auberge du Roua a third time. This place cannot be beaten in the area, it is outstanding and the host Magalie, attention to detail throughout is to be commended. The photos published are exactly what is available, the rooms are very clean and comfortable beds with excellent bathroom areas. A small fridge is supplied. The rooms are cleaned daily.
Albeit the restaurant has now been outsourced the standard is still excellent.

We loved this hotel. There was a lovely pool by a large garden with trees to provide shade. There were more than enough places to sit. Because of Covid they had a system of ordering what you wanted for breakfast and this worked well. The breads were varied and fresh and the jams delicious. We ate twice in the restaurant for dinner. The food and wine were excellent. The set menu was good value. Our only disappointment was that the menu didn’t change, so we ate out for two evenings. All the staff were lovely.

We had a nice stay, good food, and found on our own a great spot to wine taste on a Monday! (Visit Maison Albera for wines)
We appreciated the good service at Auberge du Roua.
(Do your own research for where to visit/eat as there is no lists at the auberge)

Just outside the town of Argeles you will find the oasis that is the Auberge de Roua. The hotel is a converted mill and although the room we had was simply furnished it was large and the bathroom was huge. The proprietors are rather cool in their approach to guests, but they manage to produce a quality product. In good weather, meals are taken on the patio by the pool which is just delightful. Breakfast was typically French with good bread, croissants etc. It is worth taking dinner at the hotel at least once during your stay. Far from cheap, but absolutely superb French cuisine. The wine list was comprehensive also. Don't start eating too late, your meal will take several hours!

With a cheap Stansted flight to Perpignan, a hire car, and a little hotel in the foothills of the Pyrenees near Argeles on the Med coast booked via the internet, hubby, myself and our 8 year old son were not sure what to really expect...we weren't disappointed...ok so we got a little lost en route from the airport - albeit via the scenic coastal route - but this pretty 17th century Catalan mansion now converted into a peaceful 17 roomed hotel took our breath away! The garden, with its warm clean inviting swimming pool and suitably trendy parasols and sunbeds, was an instant magnet for my son, who was out of his sweaty travelling clothes and into his swim shorts before we could say 'une biere froid s'il vous plait'..(well they speak good english there - probably just as well...). Our room was cool and comfortable with a huge marble tiled bathroom...perfect! The terrace around the pool is transformed into a contemporary diners paradise in the evening - with exquisite food and views of the Pyrenees nearby to match..breakfast is also taken by the pool. My only slight gripe was the lack of choice for my son at dinner - but Magalie the owner always found something he would eat...whether fresh melon and local ham to start, and some tender steak avec frites - topped with rich chocolate ice cream, he was soon tucking in.
The port at Argeles sur Mer and also the beautiful Catalan town of Collioure a few miles along the coast have a variation of other cheaper and more expensive options with delicious mussels and the local speciality of anchovies or even tapas available.
The hotel is only 15 mins drive from the fabulous huge clean beaches, but my son's best day was the one spent at the Aquapark in St Cyprien - great fun!! A lovely holiday..

This is a really super hotel on the outskirts of Argeles Sur Mer which is quite difficult to find even with a good satnav. There are signposts from the centre of town but these seem to run out at the crucial moment. The proprietor is Norwegian and speaks fluent English as well as French. Rooms are well appointed and in good condition with all the amenities you would expect plus an effective air con system. We stayed in the Topaz (I think) a standard room on the front of the hotel with great views of the vineyards and Alberes mountains which provide a really idyllic backdrop. Outside there is a good size car park and a medium size kidney shaped pool with tables and chairs under sun umbrellas. In good weather, meals including breakfast are served out here and it is a most delightful setting. We usually sat by the side of the pool in the early evening sunshine and had a glass or two of wine. Although the staff were busy preparing for dinner they were happy to serve us with drinks in a pleasant and courteous manner.

The food is undeniably the star attraction here and provides a mixture of Catalan and French cuisine. The chef creates some absolutely wonderful dishes and in our experience is some of the best hotel food we have tasted in France – and we have stayed in some top notch places. We stayed for three nights in August and it had been our intention to try different restaurants each night but the food proved so good we dined there every night. The fixed price menu at €41 is very good value and you can choose from starters of Crusty snails with spicy vegetables and a parsley reduction, Slices of calamari and grilled jumbo shrimps amongst others.

Mains are impressive - Roasted cod fillet with grilled green tomatoes, Catalan onions and a lime and fennel juice or Roasted rack of lamb with baked sliced potatoes and a red sweet pepper and goat cheese samoussa. Absolutely gorgeous. Desserts are from the a la carte menu. There is also a children's menu at €14.

Wine is reasonably priced and some come from the local vineyards. Service is professional and delivered with a friendly smile by the well trained and amiable staff.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for its picturesque location, outstanding food, friendly staff and comfortable rooms.

I've been terribly disappointed with the food at our hotel. The servings were so small, that we were leaving the table still hungry. We had booked half board for 42€ per day and were served a small main course and an average size dessert for that. They didn't even bother with a starter and the food was very salty. Having stayed at the same place 11 years ago for our honeymoon, I couldn't have been more disappointed. Obviously the hotel was only interested in serving the guest decent food and servings if you chose to eat "à la carte". Had we known that, we wouldn't have booked the stay with them at all, since the hotel itself is quite nice, but not worth the price they charge you per night, being only 3 stars with a tiny, unheated pool. Their strong point used to be the restaurant - well, it isn't anymore. The owner at the reception didn't want to even have the disaster mentioned anymore and shows a smile but clearly no respect for her customers, unless they are ready to spend a fortune on food and wine in the restaurant. Forget what Guide Michelin says. If the food critics ever have a half board meal and service there, they won't bother to go back. And neither will we.

Oh dear, I suggest setting the records straight on this : the €43 half-board option comprises breakfast + dinner. You were served lobster, a highly popular and expensive à la carte dish. The restaurant was full and some wait may thus occur, although the beautiful surroundings should still invite for a relaxing evening. But frankly what a complete and utter nonsense, almost a bit sad really ! Regards, Magalie and Petter Tonjum
