I booked this hotel a few months ago - on a booking site listed on Trip Advisor. This was the best price for our one night stay, so I booked two rooms (four adults) and asked for the rooms to be close by. The confirmation...More
We visited Mont-Saint-Michel late afternoon on a Saturday in Aug and since we had not made any advance reservations for the night, everything on hotel locating web sites was very high priced ($400+) or quite a distance away we decided to chance walking into the...More

Whatever time you calculate for the drive, add on half an hour at the end for the queue to get through the barrier. You can't just drive up to the hotel: access to the area is restricted to people staying at this or one of the nearby hotels, and you have to enter a code to get through a barrier. When I was there last August, the queue was huge, though I suppose it may be shorter at other times of the year, as August is very much a peak time.

Our train ran way behind. We don't speak much French, so I don't know the reason, but we were crawling at a snails pace for most of the trip from Paris. The bus normally meets the train, but because it was so late, we had a delay before it got to us at the station. I'm sure glad we didn't plan to do this as a daytrip from Paris. We wouldn't have had any time to see the abbey and town. Because we had booked a hotel for the night, it didn't end up being as much of an issue as I thought it might.
