Detailed Reviews
We booked in June and requested 2 pitches next to each other (why would anyone going on a camping holiday want to be split up right?) Was told no guarantees but will write it on our booking as a request. Reading the reviews after we made the booking made us nervous but we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. However when we arrived sure enough we had been split up. We were told some people request particular plot numbers and that's OK but if you don't know the plot number you want they won't guarantee you're together. Now to me wouldn't it have made sense when we were begging to be together when we booked for the lady to just say have plot 30 and 31 for example? Honestly this bit had us baffled. Most campsites will allocate a pitch number upon booking and maybe take the hit in the odd pitch being vacant but not ruining family holidays. Seems this campsite doesn't do that and that simply has to change if they ever want people to come back. We weren't the only unhappy campers separated from families. It feels almost purposeful. The lady rang us back a couple hours later to say we could swap by which point we couldn't bear to take everything down and start again. The pitches are also too small. Crammed in like sardines so much so we could hear people whispering on a night time in their own tent. Space the pitches out and ensure families stay together and you've got yourself an amazing campsite. Play Park and football cage are fantastic for the kids. Ours were entertained for 2 solid days. Toilet block is brand spanking new and kept lovely and clean. It'll be brill when the new clubhouse is built too. Some great positives. We'll be back for sure if some changes are made to the booking system. Lady on reception lovely but definitely fighting against a daft booking rule. Warden absolutely topper bloke had some lovely chat with him and one of the groundsmen. Thanks for a lovely weekend. We'll be back when we can guarantee togetherness on our family holiday as it was definitely a dampner.

Stayed here with a friend and our 3 children. Very welcomed on a arrival. However found the old woman in the bar to be quite rude and ratty to both myself and the children. We only asked if she would put the England game on the tv it was very quiet in the bar so it wasn’t like it was going to upset anyone. She actually literally looked us right in the face and said ‘No I don’t like football’ absolute little ray of sunshine! She did eventually put it on after a man in the bar told her to give over! Manners cost nothing she could benefit from some customer service training!
Other than that our stay was pleasant. Toilet block is nice and new but to be honest £37 a night to sleep in a tent is pretty pricey and i probably wouldn’t stay again.

Only stayed for one night as travelling through the area. However, that was completely spoilt by a group of kids from the age of 3-15 running riot, screaming and swearing loudly until midnight. The toilet block was being used as place for them to shelter from the rain! No sign of any site staff! A site warden should have been doing the rounds at 11pm to ensure this wasn't happening. If I was staying for more than one day, I would have just left the site after one night. There isn't really an option to move away either as the touring section is small and compact. I appreciate its not the actual site that was at fault BUT the management should be ensuring this doesn't happen. It gave the impression this was normal on this site and no one else was that bothered. I'm afraid, I wouldn't stay again just on this terrible experience. I would recommend the management on site concentrate on ensuring this type of behaviour is stopped as it gives your site a bad name and stops people coming back in the future.
On a positive note, the member of staff (man) who greeted us on arrival was friendly and efficient. The site was clean and tidy. The new shower/toilet block was very clean and one of the best we have used (excluding the screaming kids running around inside).

This site was fantastic. Friendly staff, great facilities and the New Years Eve party was brilliant. Thank you to everyone for making us all feel so welcome. We'll be back in the summer for definite.
Ignore the negative comments. 25p for a shower is not alot to ask and site fees are very reasonable too.

Well organised, top facilites and welcoming site. We arrived late in the dark, yet the site manager phoned us and greeted us on arrival. We settled into a site that had everything we needed, I was espeically amazed by the smart clean shower/toilet block. We all had parking next to our accommodation. We camped on a grass pitch, had water close by and elelcric hook up. The rest of my family stayed in a camping pod. Everying was very resonably priced, and as the sun rose the site was set in beautful contryside. There was even a small shop and a pub on site. The site was very careful to meet covid requirements and we all felt very safe. 10/10 will book again next year. Thank you.

We stayed for 2 nights, Friday to Sunday in a 2 bedroom static van. The van was lightly used and immaculate with central heating throughout and a modern electric fire in the lounge area. It was equipped with basics only negative is that there was only 3 mugs and not enough cutlery for a 6 birth van. The site is very peaceful, there’s a little shop with a friendly lady serving, clubhouse (new one been built looks interesting) a park for the kids and facilities for the campers we obviously didn’t need to use. Unfortunately the clubhouse doesn’t serve food but the nearest pub Shepard and Shepherdess is approx 20 min walk away if you fancy walking on the road (no paths) or a few mins drive away. They serve delicious good value home cooked food.
We also visited Beamish Museum and overall had a lovely stay.

The welcoming staff was unhelpful, rude &held complete disregard to our issue on arrival. My husband traveled from work to site.We were unaware that management could refuse entry of work vehicles, never had this before & we go away using our van and our car often due to work commitments and being able to fit our bikes in the van.on arrival we were told that the van could not stay on site. We explained & pleaded as the van couldn’t just be left on the road due to the risk of break-in.No apology, no consideration just told no it can’t stay on site,we asked if we could use the parking facilities for the extra cars you have on site and were told it’s a CAR park not for vans.I took photos of commercial vans on site and had confirmed others have their vans on site. I understand there are rules but a little goodwill would be a much kinder approach with a far better customer response! We are now all living with guidelines/rules re social distancing. We went to the club housedguring the weekend and again due to the way we had been treated I took photographic evidence of the lack of social distancing being enforced, pure greed only explains this. This would be a long with electrical wires allover the ground, both a trip and electrical hazard & a dangerous wall around our caravan, that was falling to pieces. The staff told our children not to shout, that there was no need for it!If the girls left a bike even slightly on a path or in their way they moved them by pushing them with their feet.

We booked a serviced pitch for our motorhome. There are 6 pitches all of which are terraced down a slope. It’s just as well we didn’t want to sit outside or put up an awning as it would have been impossible. On hooking up, the electric immediately tripped and continued to do so, despite mentioned it to the warden nothing was done so we spent a night without the electricity we had paid for. The next morning we spoke to a female in the office, who snapped back at me that it was the first time she’d heard about it but would send someone to check. She then rang me when I was out saying it had been checked there was nothing wrong and we would have to show them what was happening on our return. Her manner was appalling and she seriously needs some customer service training. When we returned, we called into the office where someone different tried to tell us that it was our solar panel that was causing it however on checking the trip switch (despite being told there was nothing wrong with it) it had changed colour from black to red so had quite clearly been replaced. On checking out I mentioned all the problems we’d had and was literally ignored. Although they appear to be spending money on the site by building a new club house, the site is full of uncared for caravans that are obviously left there permanently. I think they need to decide if they are catering for the touring market or not as at £60 for 2 nights they are not cheap and certainly not worth the money. Lesson learnt, I will not return

Visited this campsite last summer for one night on the way to Edinburgh and came again this year to visit Beamish Museum. Great location for the museum and lovely local walk nearby through the woods.
You can walk to the museum through the woods but it's a bit of a treck and you have to go down the hill and then walk back up so it is easier to drive.
The new shower block and toilets were lovely and clean. Easy to check in and the site is very secure. Quiet after 11pm and people were very considerate about noise in the morning too.
The club house was great fun last year but decided against using it this year with the 'current situation'.

We chose this park as it is very close to the Beamish Museum and wanted to take a visit. It is very convenient for this purpose, but the site is definitely not the best that we have stayed on. The pitches are not very well spaced out and during our visit it was very busy so space was very much at a premium, with some families having multiple cars per pitch, especially the campers. During our stay we were sited close to the play park, this in itself was not an issue, the noise of children playing was fine, our main issue was the constant (during play hours) threat of being hit by a flying football coming out of the play pitch, whose fence is nowhere near adequate enough and hitting either us or our unit and causing damage. Instead of walking to the museum we elected to go in our motorhome and park at the museum, to ensure that it was safe. Parking for Motorhomes is, as we found out, very good at the museum and the stewards directed us to a large area for coaches and Motorhomes. During our stay we did see footballs hit tents, caravans and the motorhome opposite us, but luckily we were not hit :)

Hello Michele,
We have 2 pods which have futons in, microwave and fridge. We also have another pod which is a dog friendly pod but only has a fridge inside so guests do need to bring something to sleep on if they are in the dog friendly pod.
Thank you for your interest in the park.
Hello and thank you for your question: yes bbqs are allowed as long as they are on a stand or stones and not used as a campfire.
Hello, Dogs are not allowed in the Bar, but are allowed on the patio.
