the garden is nice, you will see birds, everything else is disappointing. the rooms are small, the bathrooms are old, tired and cheap. The hosts are not really welcoming, a bit strange. The breakfast is a shame, almost a joke. Lodges nearby seemed to be a much better option.

We loved this place! A unique hotel on a small island with a great garden. Very nice and clean rooms, dedicated owners and a wonderful breakfast. Ask the owner for a tour in the garden. This is not just a stop on your way to Arenal... book this for 2 or 3 nights. The national parks are great. Tip: Frogs...

This was our second time staying here, third time visiting the grounds. For a change we stayed here for all except the last night of our trip. Having visited before we knew it would be a good choice for two octogenarians in our party! We felt comfortable leaving them to walk or sit on the porch while we made short...

After a short, but rough road ride, you parked and entered the island over a smal bridge by foot. The garden around huts were very Green and nice. You went rally to bed because at sunrise around 4.00 am the birds started their modning consert and the apes just outside were talking rather load with each other. The service was...

PROs + great location - a small island near Puerto Viejo + beautiful garden, designed and created by a professional garden designer who used to live there; the heliconias are amazing + take a night walk with Carolien, the owner, to discover how the plants behave at night, to see nocturnal animals (we saw a 3-toed sloth mom with a...

We spent just one night here, breaking the journey to Tenorio National Park, but we are so glad we did! With Stunning gardens, helpful owners, great and big(!) breakfast, lots of lovely places to sit and watch wildlife and comfortable room and bathroom -- well what else could you wish for?! There's lots to do in the area and although...

This was our very favorite place to stay in Costa Rica. The place is tranquil and has absolutely gorgeous gardens. The hotel owns the whole island (not all that big - 2 acres or so) but the landscape is like no other. The rooms are clean and beautiful with verandas containing soft furniture to sit in while you watch the...

This unique setting has it all, beautiful location, gardens and wildlife as well as friendly, attentive and knowledgeable hosts. The rooms are tastefully decorated and had everything we needed and being able to sit on our balcony and be treated to a 'concert' by a family of howler monkeys was the cherry on the top. We had already had birds...

Heliconia Island is one of the nicest gardens in Costa Rica. And for a good price you can sleep there aswell, including a good normal breakfast. You can also see a lot of birds and some other animals like monkeys, squirrels, etc.. Henk and Carolien, the owners, are not only very friendly, but also very helpfull with information about things...

Gardens are small, beautiful and well maintained, with plenty of great birds. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and it helps it you like dogs, because they have several that will greet you noisily on arrival! Don't stay here for more that one night if you don't have your own transport as there is little to do, breakfast is minimal...
