Hotel Hacienda Sueno Azul has a unique rustic elegance style where good taste and nature stand out. It is a magnificent place to rest and detoxify both mind and body. Sueno Azul is the perfect blend between nature and comfort. With an excellent panoramic view towards lakes and mountains, its 64 rooms are beautifully decorated with a rustic touch, furnished with Queen beds, ceiling fan or air conditioning, private bath with hot water, hair dryer, safety box, and a private terrace.
We were here 2 nights at the end of a birding trip and we loved it. Beautiful grounds with a lovely pond where you can see a variety of water birds. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious.

I stongly advise anyone not to go to this hotel. We were charged twice for our lodgings and the manager refuses to admid that they made a mistake. Numerous emails and telephonecalls later we are still waiting for our refund!

We stayed here for four nights and our travel agent had booked us on a package with all meals included. BUT the menu is a cut down version of the full menu so we felt like second rate guests that were only allowed the cheap meals. Also the menu was the same for lunch and dinner so you can imagine by the third day we'd had enough of the menu. Spoke to the reception staff and we told them we were going out for dinner so they said we could eat off the full menu and for some strange reason the food was much better!! Room was clean but rundown and the bed was uncomfortable. Place was also deserted, with probably four other rooms occupied in what looks to be a large hotel. The gym was closed down. It had a grotesque museum. And a rodeo that only opens when there are a lot of guess (never?) There were also a few walking trails but very easy to get lost as they are poorly marked. I should also mention the entrance. To get to the hotel we had to drive over two old suspension bridges, with wooden floors and bit of rusty metal you could here the groans as you drove over. It stopped us going out in the evening as with the dark it didn't feel comfortable. Wouldn't want to stay there again.…

I've been staying here for years. Sometimes the place seem a bit run down, but then there are always improvements. This year there were new (and really good) shower heads, and rooms were painted. Another set of rooms were being totally renovated. On the other hand, my mattress had a sprung spring on the edge, as if someone had sat hard on it too much, but it didn't affect my sleep in the middle of the mattress. Much of the staff is the same as previous years, so the owners are doing something right. Best of all is their extensive property with some very nice forest and marsh habitats.

We never write bad reviews - but after trying very hard to get the manager to make some corrections to our bill to reflect the terrible conditions and apathy we faced when reporting they have dug in and so we have no choice. We had prepaid a three-night stay through a travel agent - when we checked into our room we found that the air-conditioning did not work, the nice flatscreen TV had no reception ( they gave us various reasons - the satellite, the cable, etc etc) and there was no hot water in the shower. Even though we reported these things immediately they were NOT FIXED for the entire 3 day stay. After trying to fix the A/C once they never bothered trying again and never addressed these problems despite our many requests to do so. People, it was hot in that room and cold in that shower. It rained and our outdoor activities were limited - but we couldn't watch TV iun our room. Even though the hotel was nearly empty they refused to move us to another room - Why? Because the other rooms weren't as "nice" and they might've had to refund part of what we'd overpaid in advance before seeing how rundown the place was and thoughtless management was. At checkout, after our travel agent had also added his voice to ours in complaint the manager offered to give us a 5% break in our food bill - which came to $12.75!!!! THAT is all they gave us for 3 nights of NO hot water, NO Airconditioning and NO TV. Armando, the manager of the property obviosly didn't care about us at all and didn't care we had a crappy stay. He said he didnt care what we posted on this website or others - so I am kjeeping my promise to share with you all exactly WHY you DO NOT WANT TO EVER MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE MADE. There are many wonderful properties in Costa Rica - This is Not One Of Them. A few other things: The "gym" had only a few broken-down pieces of exercise equi[pmwnrt - but it was CLOSED anyway and they would not ket anyone use it for the time wwe were there. The place looks like it is being run inbto the ground. Avoid It.…

The large resort had one other family staying - it felt like a ghost town! Very run down, quiet and dull. The half day tours lasted no more than 30 minutes each and felt fairly trapped at the hotel with nothing nearby. Sadly would not recommend - there are far better places to stay and explore the wonderful Costa Rica!

The room had a lot space and the balcony was absolutly great. And thats it. It wasn't really clean and there is nothing really to do. We actually booked a trip to see the waterfall like a few kilometers next to the hotel. They drove us by the car the workers used so we were expecting it dosen't will actually drive because it was more destroyed than something else. The waterfall was like 5 meters high and we have seen everthing in about 10min. And i think it was like 35dollar per pax. The food was ok but not more.

This was a fantastic hotel. My husband stayed here 15 years ago, before we met, and he had fond memories. The hotel did not disappoint. It far exceeded my expectations. Crossing over the narrow bridge and onto the property was like stepping into another world. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We decided to purchase the day tour for our second day. We rode horses to the waterfall and swam in the pools, and rode the zip line through the canopy. It was an awesome adventure. Afterward, the staff was very accommodating to warm up the hot tub for our stuff backs. We were there in December and there was some rain, but we found time to enjoy the beautiful pool when the sun came out. The restaurant offered great local food and the staff was willing to make us something one night, not on the menu. We asked for something simple and they made a delicious dinner. The owner was gracious and thoughtful to check on our stay. We had an air conditioner, which was nice. The rooms were spacious and clean and very nice. We will definitely come back. Don’t miss this hidden gem. …

I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t have much expectations for what I booked for $66 a night but I got a lot more than I bargained for. The property is stunning, super peaceful and during the rainy season like when I went I was the only guest on a 500 hectare property for awhile. Make sure you make the hike or bargain to ride a horse to the waterfall at the end of the Stone path into the cascades.

I had read the reviews about how this hotel is off the beaten path, about the bridges to cross to enter, and that it was rustic. Our GPS got us to the hotel perfectly. I told my husband to think of it as glamping and he'd be pleased. We paid for a Superior room which had air conditioning and were glad we did as it was so humid. Otherwise the rooms were quite basic. The water heater gave us trouble at first, but was very promptly fixed. The location and natural beauty won me over. The included breakfast was delicious with lovely views. We enjoyed a horseback riding tour to the waterfall nearby. We arrived after dinner and left about noon the next day and I wish we had one more night to enjoy the property.
