My wife and I stayed here for one night on the Alps to Ocean bike trail. It's a sprawling old ski lodge, family owned, staffed with a cheerful cast of international travellers. The hosts are front and centre, checking everything works OK. I had bike problems and they were really helpful, lending tools and a landline when I couldn't use... More

Thanks so much for taking the time to write. Trying to find a few more kiwis to balance out our "cheerful cast of international travellers"!!! When we have a young tour in house, we do advise those who ask to be in the cheapest Hopkins wing which is near the bar or ask to be in the Maitland wing, we... More

Stayed at this relatively remote resort was a wonderful experience. To begin with, we were greeted by the owner (Louise) upon arrival. She was delightful and is very involved in the management of the hotel. The setting is spectacular, just along the shores of Lake Oahu with outstanding views of the snow capped mountains in the distance. who seems to... More

As part of the cycle journeys Alps 2 Ocean bike ride we had an opportunity to stay at Lodge. The lodge was nice and friendly and had magnificent views. The food was delicious and different in a good way. The spas were great for a cool day but unfortunately we were there on a hot day so they got really... More

We are loving all these cyclists!! Thank you for your review. I agree, our food is delicious and we try to incorporate in our set menus, something that is a bit different while still considering everyone's different tastes. You should have tried swimming in the lake. It's been amazingly warm lately. More

We were in the Temple Wing, I stayed here as a child in the 70's & the room had not been updated since, but the bathrooms have been. Loved their whole concept, service and welcome, well organised & lovely people. Compliments to the chef, we found our meals to be of a very high standard. Love the view and area.... More

Thank you for writing this review. We want to maintain our 70's vibe and hope, when we are able to do some revamping of the rooms that we can maintain that. Sorry, we will never put TVs in the rooms. We have one TV in the whole place and that is how it will stay. TVs encourage people to stay... More

Came part of a group tour The hostess made us feel welcome The lodge has beautiful view of lake and the mountains in background The room we stayed was basic but needed more plug points in my opinion Good for just a night's stay

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Our rooms are decorated simply not to detract from the view and when this wing was originally built in the '70s it was before cell phone invention so not as many plugs as we would like. We are indeed so fortunate to live in this beautiful place. More

On a four weeks long road trip around New Zealand I stopped here for a night when I biked the Alps2Ocean trail. From the moment I stepped in I had the feeling that everyone who works there wants me to feel at home. At the reception I was greeted with the words "Let me guess: You must be XY" and... More

This was a last minute booking with no idea about the location (the weather had changed dramatically to cold grey and wet). Our studio was comfortable but basic. We awoke to a magnificent view across the lake to snow capped mountains. We loved the place.

This restaurant is perfectly situated looking over Lake Ohau to the mountains. A brilliant view if the weather is nice. It is a little tired but the people are wonderful and the food was really nice. As a girl from Taupo big lakes are nothing new for me, but Ohau flanked by mountain ranges is spectacular and everyday the view was different. We stayed here for the final night of our Top Deck tour - our room was lovely, overlooking Lake Ohau. We had a delcious dinner - our best of the trip and as it was Hallowe'en the hotel had organised a fancy dress party for us in the bar as both us and Contiki were staying there. I wish we... More
