We stayed overnight while doing the Alps to Ocean cycle trail. The lodge is very large, with several two storey blocks sprawling across the property. Most rooms have good lake and mountain views. Our room (79) was upstairs almost at the end of one of the blocks, so had a nice outlook, but terribly squeaking floorboards - we felt very...

Firstly thank you for writing and our sincere apologies for not being able to get your breakfast early and for your wife’s lamb being undercooked. Our Head Chef married our Receptionist the day before and so we were working with temporary staff in the kitchen and front of house as half of the staff were guests at the wedding and...

We stayed here as part of the A2O cycle trail. Rooms were good and we were on the top floor of the backpackers lodge. The views are magnificent from the lodge. A quaint lovely lodge. We had a group booking for 23 so I don't know individual pricing but we had a budget to go for.

Thanks so much for your review. Just for your information, we are not a back packers lodge. We don't get many of them as we are 25kms from the main road. We mostly have tour groups, cyclists on the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail, weddings, birthday party groups and family reunions - lots of variety and we enjoy them all!

The setting of this lodge is awesome - the views are breathtaking you are situated in the mountains over looking the lake and more mountains! I can only imagine how beautiful and what an atmosphere this very homely lodge must have in winter ski season. All staff are friendly and helpful, there are several public lounge areas to relax in...

My wife and I stayed here for one night on the Alps to Ocean bike trail. It's a sprawling old ski lodge, family owned, staffed with a cheerful cast of international travellers. The hosts are front and centre, checking everything works OK. I had bike problems and they were really helpful, lending tools and a landline when I couldn't use...

Thanks so much for taking the time to write. Trying to find a few more kiwis to balance out our "cheerful cast of international travellers"!!! When we have a young tour in house, we do advise those who ask to be in the cheapest Hopkins wing which is near the bar or ask to be in the Maitland wing, we...

Stayed at this relatively remote resort was a wonderful experience. To begin with, we were greeted by the owner (Louise) upon arrival. She was delightful and is very involved in the management of the hotel. The setting is spectacular, just along the shores of Lake Oahu with outstanding views of the snow capped mountains in the distance. who seems to...

As part of the cycle journeys Alps 2 Ocean bike ride we had an opportunity to stay at Lodge. The lodge was nice and friendly and had magnificent views. The food was delicious and different in a good way. The spas were great for a cool day but unfortunately we were there on a hot day so they got really...

We are loving all these cyclists!! Thank you for your review. I agree, our food is delicious and we try to incorporate in our set menus, something that is a bit different while still considering everyone's different tastes. You should have tried swimming in the lake. It's been amazingly warm lately.

We were in the Temple Wing, I stayed here as a child in the 70's & the room had not been updated since, but the bathrooms have been. Loved their whole concept, service and welcome, well organised & lovely people. Compliments to the chef, we found our meals to be of a very high standard. Love the view and area....

Thank you for writing this review. We want to maintain our 70's vibe and hope, when we are able to do some revamping of the rooms that we can maintain that. Sorry, we will never put TVs in the rooms. We have one TV in the whole place and that is how it will stay. TVs encourage people to stay...

Came part of a group tour The hostess made us feel welcome The lodge has beautiful view of lake and the mountains in background The room we stayed was basic but needed more plug points in my opinion Good for just a night's stay

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Our rooms are decorated simply not to detract from the view and when this wing was originally built in the '70s it was before cell phone invention so not as many plugs as we would like. We are indeed so fortunate to live in this beautiful place.

On a four weeks long road trip around New Zealand I stopped here for a night when I biked the Alps2Ocean trail. From the moment I stepped in I had the feeling that everyone who works there wants me to feel at home. At the reception I was greeted with the words "Let me guess: You must be XY" and...

I hope you loved the A2O ride and I am so glad that you had the feeling of being at home as that is our whole mantra - to make our guests feel welcomed as you would a guest in your own home. Thank you for your time writing those lovely comments.

This was a last minute booking with no idea about the location (the weather had changed dramatically to cold grey and wet). Our studio was comfortable but basic. We awoke to a magnificent view across the lake to snow capped mountains. We loved the place.
