Friendly staff, busy when we were there (Saturday 6pm) but service was ok. Serving large groups well. Food was really good quality. Great range of meals on the menu. Prices reasonable. Recommend it for a nice meal.

We stopped here whilst cycling round the Newlands Valley and were on our way back to Keswick. We stopped for a bite to eat and a beer. The sandwiches were lovely and reasonably priced. The staff were welcoming and friendly.

Bed and breakfast for £45 for single occupancy of a double ensuite was a bargain. The breakfast was generous. On the downside the walls are very thin and every sound in neighbouring rooms can be heard.

A pint in a warm bar, with a warm welcome after our walk brought us back for an evening meal. The food was hot, well cooked with plenty of it. Prices are reasonable, service was prompt and polite. Good place to eat in a cosy atmosphere.

I was camping at the Scotgate Holiday Park, just down the road, and came in for a drink on two consecutive evenings. It is a Jennings pub, and I thought that the beer was well kept. I tried a few different ones, eventually settling on the Cocker Hoop. I had a meal on the first evening - Cumberland sausage with...

I stayed nearby at The Mews Cottages for 2 weeks so I visited here a bit as it was in walking distance for either just for a drink (or two) or for meals when I didn't feel like organising something for myself. Friendly staff to travellers, great meals (quantity and price) and the customers who visited at the same time...

Traditional pub with rooms. Stayed 3 nights from 24 October 2016.Our room was spacious, well maintained and nice decor. We enjoyed the meals. Varied menu with option of small (still good size) or normal portion ( big). no complaints about quality. Staff were attentive but not intrusive.

There is nothing more welcome than a good cup of tea and a bowl of hot chips after a night in the mountains, which is exactly what we were served here. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the pub was warm with lots of wonderful pictures, photos and other interesting things to capture your interest on the walls. As we...

After reading fabulous reviews about the food at the Royal Oak we were disappointed with our food. My rump steak was very tough and my husband, who I've never known to complain about his food said his steak and ale casserole in a Yorkshire pudding was bland and tasteless. The Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard. The place was packed and portions...

Here for a week and been into the Royal Oak on 4 nights. Every meal excellent and we've not heard a word said against it. The Jennings beers are terrific too. Hint though, the "larger" meals are large!
