We visited for 2 days in February, during Storm Doris. The hotel was warm and welcoming despite the cold and wind outside. Our room was modern but a little small, especially the bathroom. The dining experience is excellent but is fine dining so portions are not large. The service is very friendly and attentive.Breakfast was very good and accompanied by...

My husband and I just got back after 2 fabulous nights at Cottage in the Wood. The whole experience was fantastic, with snow capped mountains and red squirrels to watch at breakfast, not to mention the amazing food and first class service. A massive thank you.

Oh my, what a little gem! The whole experience exuded quality. We stayed in one of the cottage rooms which was small but perfect. The decor was clean and bright, with crisp white bedding. One of my pet hates in a hotel is inadequate lighting but in our room we had a main light as well as three lamps which...

Arrived for a 3 night stay on valentines day. This is a wonderful hotel, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Whinlatter Forest. The welcome is as warming as the cosy wood burner in the small, tastefully decorated lounge. Our room (the Garden Room) was beautifully decorated with a view that looks down towards Skiddaw and Blencathra. It was a...

This was our first visit and was for a Valentine's Meal and we both had an excellent evening. We did some research for a special meal and were delighted with our experience, starting with out telephone booking and ending with leaving, gift red rose in my Partner's hand. The Tasting Meal was exquisite. An excellent meal was enjoyed by us...

We stayed on the two night Gourmet break and we had a fab time. We were upgraded as there was only another couple staying. We had great views of the mountains and forest and rooms were tastefully decorated. The owners made us feel welcome the minute we came through the door and the lounge area downstairs is nice and relaxing...

First visit but it won't be the last. Warm welcome, lovely room with large comfortable bed. G&T in the lounge before an amazing dining experience. The menu sounded delicious & the food didn't disappoint. It looked & tasted amazing. The wine recommendations with each course was perfect. Each course of the taster menu came with a full description from the...

Third time here and still very good. It was the first week of the season, the first two nights actually, but new chef delivered a superb meal on both nights. The owner explained the intention is to go back to a wider range and a taster menu, but the two nights we stayed the food was lovely. Delicious crab starter...
