We set out to walk the Queen Charlotte Walkway in the Marlborough Sounds staying in budget accommodation, taking our own breakfasts and lunches, and eating dinner in restaurants and pubs where that option was available. Our third night was spent at Punga Cove Resort. Also see the related reviews of Resolution Bay Cabins, Furneaux Lodge, DeBretts and the restaurant at...

Dear HineNZ, Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review of your stay at Punga Cove and for your kind comments. We’ve very glad you enjoyed the double room and facilities at Basecamp. It’s also very pleasing to hear you enjoyed good service as this is certainly something we strive to provide for all our guests....

It was an easy walk day and we enjoyed arriving early. We had to hike 1/3 of the way up to reception. All the QCT accommodation has this annoying habit of welcoming, key handing and then proceeding to run you through meal options, lunch options right there and then. We had to wait for 4 people to be dealt with...

Dear HolidayBliss11, Thank you very much for your feedback. We’re disappointed your experience wasn’t as good as it could have been but we appreciate your constructive comments and have included some of your ideas in our new systems. Offering guests a cold drink on arrival is something we have discussed previously, and given your comments we’ll now give it more...

Our large group arrived after a day walking in torrential rain. Apparently we heard the resort was pretty full that night, and given both of these reasons we assumed that the spa would be ready to soothe our tired bones. We were gutted to find out it was cold (had been turned on an hour before and would be another...

We took our own boat to the Sounds, but the weather turned bad and we had to find lodging. My husband headed straight for Punga Cove because he had stayed there 15 years ago. Well, it has vastly improved even since he remembered it. Our chalet in the trees was quiet and spacious, the staff were personable and accommodating and...

We had a lovely welcome, everybody was helpful and pleasant, with a special mention for Heather, who is particularly sweet. The place is extraordinary, you feel as if you were alone in the bush, your chalet being separated from your neighbours' by trees and all sorts of plants. And yet, your room is quite comfortable, the bed is very good...

Dear Colin W, Thank you very much for your kind words about our setting, service and staff which is much appreciated, particularly by Heather. We’re glad you felt ‘alone in the bush’ as Punga Cove was certainly designed with that in mind and it has a pretty special feel, we think. We do have quite a range of chalets of...

The place is designed to make the most of a fabulous location overlooking the Sound. Our A-frame chalet was really comfortable with a lovely balcony overlooking the bush and sea. The restaurant was a steep climb up the cliff but well worth it - fabulous views of the Sound and great food. Even the lunch they packed for our day's...

The resort is strung out across a steep hillside and the hikers' cabins (referred to as Basecamp) are in a great setting right at the top. The rooms are a generous size (especially the double room) with a balcony, and there are excellent facilities attached, including kitchen, lounge and generous bathrooms. The restaurant provides excellent meals with great views over...
