Detailed Reviews
the Hotel was a little bit tired, could do with a lick of paint and although clean enough would benefit from a good deep clean. The beds where comfy enough but I think old and probably need replacing. However, the restaurant I would give 5* to. The chef, it was his first day and had not had time to compile a Menu, this did not stop him however and he gave us all a list of food available and we chose from the selection, each of us chose something different, He presented the food, Hot on time and exceptionally well cooked and delicious, each one of us really enjoyed the meal, He was definitely a character and this added to the enjoyment of the evening, we all truly hope this gentleman remains as chef because his food is delicious we could not fault any of it and for this if it was available we would all give him 10*

Called into the Powis Arms on our way back to Liverpool from pembrokshire. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Excellent choice or cask ales and we both had the cheese burger and chips which was excellent in both taste and quality of ingredients. Will be returning on our next trip to or from Wales.

Dropped in for Sunday lunch without booking after being politely turned away by two other local pubs and the welcome was warm, the service great and the food was ace! Great value, crunchy veg and delicious roast beef with all the best trimmings. There was 7 of us including a 4 yr old plus a dog! The staff never blinked - all handled with aplomb, elan and great British hospitality! Recommended!!

There were good and bad things. The good things were the evening meal and waitress service both excellent with a good choice and very reasonably priced.
Breakfast (full English) was OK overall but the bacon had a peculiarly fishy taste. More toast could have been offered (1 piece) and we would have preferred to pour our own juice. Tea a peculiar coffee colour.
On arrival the welcome was below enthusiastic. We stayed in room 4 which was very very tired and was well below the standard suggested bythe Internet pictures. Cobwebs were visible in corners bedding was not matching and furniture was very outdated.Dark room with badly placed overhead light and poorly positioned mirrors. Difficulty with hairdryer due to poor plug positioning. Water left in kettle (black scale when emptied) Worst of all was the en suite which had chips out of the bath and some very outdated plastic wall covering. It also smelt heavily of lamb fat which affected our clothes badly. The smell came from the kitchen directly below.

Stopped here for lunch halfway round a walk from Bishops Castle. The landlady was very welcoming and didn't mind our muddy boots. Food was really tasty and we were suitably recharged ready to finish our walk in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.

Breakfast good, service good the venue belongs to Walcote Hall. Great location ideal to stay overnight if attending a weeding at the Hall. Expensive for what we had. Do not accept Room 2. You can't shave ,wash properly the bathroom was so small. No wardrobe to hang up your clothes. Room a little tired . To finish on a positive the bed was comfy.
Should not be classed as a bedroom to rent. £150.00 was a rip off.

We stayed at Walcott hall for a few nights with family and had stayed there a few times. Previously we only popped our head round the door to check it out but never actually drank or ate on previous occasions.
We came in for a few beers and food between Xmas and new year and the staff were all super friendly, the food was ace and good value and the snug bar at the back was cosy with the fire on.
Wish we’d come in before but glad we found this great little gem, for anyone staying at the chapel, dipping shed or anywhere in Walcott hall this place is a short walk and well worth it.

Off the beaten track but well worth a detour. Really excellent food and beer. They had three real ales to choose from, the fish and chips was fantastic and the burger was wonderful. We really couldn't fault the food at all. Would highly recommend.

In February I purchased tickets ( £150.00 ) for a concert at the nearby Walcot Hall to celebrate my wife’s birthday in June and then booked accommodation at the Powis Arms for the same night all fine so far. In May the Powis Arms decided to cancel our booking for no apparent reason. We phoned on three occasions and they said their hotel was full but they would try a find alternative accommodation nearby and call back. Not once did they call back. So I sent an email complaint and they could not even be bothered to reply. A taxi would be too expensive due to the distance and driving a long distance late at night on unlit country roads is not very appealing. I have email evidence to support all of this sorry episode.
Well however much extra they made on the room they have lost many times over as our large group of friends attending the concert will not be eating or drinking there again.

Rude bar lady with a strong accent, instead of serving us she was to busy talking badly with customers about another person, not a very welcoming pub at all, toilets disgusting with no toilet roll.
On my way out I had to squeeze through a gang of smokers who were inside the doorway- not outside.
