Now open Penally Abbey is a small Country House Hotel and Restaurant situated in an elevated position, adjacent to the 12th-century church in the pretty floral village of Penally. Penally is only 1.5 mls from the beautiful medieval walled town of Tenby with its cobbled streets, ancient ramparts, picturesque harbour, and long sandy beaches in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park. The 'Abbey' is pretty rather than grand. The rooms are beautifully proportioned and sympathetically decorated and furnished to compliment the style of the building. Unusual features are the large ogee head doors and windows through which one can see views of Tenby Golf Course, Caldey Island and across the bay toward the Gower peninsular. We serve unpretentious food in beautiful surroundings. Our staff are friendly but not too intrusive. Our rooms are warm, clean and comfortable. We are only 800 yds from Tenby's South Beach. But most importantly we offer the warmest welcome in Wales.

Penally Abbey is without a doubt my favourite hotel in the UK. It is gorgeously cosy whether you're tucked up in your room or having a drink in the drawing room, and is only a 5 minute walk from the beach if you fancy a bracing cold water swim. It is also supremely dog friendly, and everyone was absolutely lovely with our (very energetic) labrador. However, the absolute highlight of our stay was dinner at Rhosyn on our final night. I have been to numerous Michelin starred restaurants in London and around the world, and the cured salmon starter with savoury posset at Rhosyn was the best dish I have ever had in my life. Please please please never let it leave the menu (or the cherry trifle, which was equally delightful, and I say that as someone who does not usually like trifle) - we are going to be coming back in February and I am already dreaming of that meal! An absolutely wonderful stay - I cannot recommend Penally Abbey more.

We had an absolutely fantastic time staying at Penally Abbey. The staff could not have been more helpful, and the room we stayed in was perfect. Also highly, highly recommend breakfast. The pastries, granola, and smoked salmon & scrambled eggs were all delicious. There was an extremely useful written guide in our room, which gave us inspiration for a walk around Barafundle Bay to the Bosherton Lily Ponds. Tenby is also located nearby and is a beautiful seaside town with loads of restaurants and sights to see.

My wife and I spent three nights at this wonderful boutique hotel and were spoiled so much that most places we stay at of like size in the future will be compared to this one. From the warm welcome of the staff, to the under-stated but very professional service to the cozy lounge area and the fabulous restaurant, it was a wonderful experience. It's premium price was well worth the cost, so those considering it in the future for special occasions or just a week-end away won't be disappointed. This is not to mean there aren't some minor deficiencies- a very inconsistent wifi in our room which meant that we had to access wifi from the lounge for a consistent connection; the rooms are up a flight of stairs so if you are limited physically (as one reviewer was) you might find it difficult but these were minor issues for us.

No one to greet us or help with the luggage. We were all over 80 and had to struggle up steep stairs. I had been warned that our room was small, but not minute – no room for even an arm chair. Our friends had a large room (12) but with a long walk from the dining room and no outside light to guide them, nor umbrella when it rained, as it did!. Also there were no information leaflets to tell us where to go and what there was to see in the area. The dinner menu was very disappointing, as it was the same for every night and had obviously been the same all summer. All edible, but nothing noteworthy, and certainly not worth a Michelin star. Very loud and ghastly music was playing all the time, although they did turn it down a bit on request, but not much. The tables were bare wood without even a cloth on them, and the coffee was very weak and watery. Breakfast starting with soggy cornflakes was also not very pleasant. All in all we were deeply disappointed and feel you should know, Your 2 youngish blond waitresses were charming, but all the rest were far from helpful or cheerful.

I have only ever tried the afternoon tea here but have no doubt that the food will also be exceptional! The staff are always very friendly, more recently i had a very polite man with glasses, unfortunately didn’t catch his name. He was so polite and friendly, it really does go a long way! The afternoon tea is gorgeous and although could be argued as a bit pricey, is definitely worth it as the quality is amazing! Will always recommend and return and cant wait to sample the evening menu!

Hard to score this one because it really deserves a full 4.5 out of 5 when you combine the hotel and its restaurant. The hotel itself is like your favourite armchair, nice and comfortable and great to relax in. Our room 6 must have been one of the best, surely? Acres of space, a massive sleep inducing bed, an armchair and sofa, big TV and a view over the golf course to the sea. The let down was the bathroom. Everything worked well but whereas the bedroom was oversized, the bathroom was smaller than tiny. The flaw seemed to be the design and an unnecessary ambition to make it a wetroom which meant everything got soaked in such a confined space. Somehow the bathroom and the bedroom were a complete mis-match. The hotel has a fine dining restaurant with a varied menu that should please most people. The quality shone out and we enjoyed the food and wine. One gripe - the chairs are not the most comfortable and the overly large cushions don't help. But, gripes apart, this is a fabulous hotel as a base for exploring the even more fabulous Pembrokeshire coastline and countryside.

The Hotel building, decor , location, grounds and views are amazing. Staff are so helpful and friendly without exception. Complimentary cake and coffee on the beautiful terrace on arrival. Our room was gorgeous and cocktails in the lounge and dinner was delicious! I’m desperately trying to think of a celebration I can organise in the function room they have, it looks magical! Thanks to all the staff for their attention and service, it really was a faultless experience.

We stayed at Penally Abbey for three nights while we explored the wonderful Pembrokeshire coastline. The hotel is set in a lovely peaceful area away from the hustle and bustle of Tenby but close enough to walk if feeling energetic. The hotel faces the sea and there is a beach just 10 – 15 mins walk away. There is adequate parking but it can be a little congested at times although we had no problem with access. We felt very welcome at Penally Abbey as all the staff were friendly , courteous and attentive. The décor was also warm and cosy, particularly in the restaurant, lounge and communal areas. We stayed in one of the top floor rooms which was full of character and had all the amenities we expected from a good quality hotel. The outstanding feature of this hotel , for us, was the restaurant where we enjoyed the excellent food in a beautifully decorated setting . Much of the lighting, in the evening, was provided by candlelight which created a relaxed and warm atmosphere. On top of this the restaurant has a view of the sea which we thoroughly enjoyed at breakfast. Meal times including breakfast are staggered presumable to prevent an influx of guests arriving at the same time, consequently it was necessary to book a time slot for breakfast on arrival. This worked very well for us as we had very short waiting times for meals. If you wish to dine in the restaurant for dinner we suggest you book this well in advance of your arrival to secure a table. Our overall experience of Penally Abbey was excellent and we look forward to returning.

What a beautiful hotel. Lovely location just outside Tenby with stunning sea views and excellent gardens. Our welcome at reception was just wonderful, it felt like we had returned to see a friend albeit it was our first visit. All staff were amazing and so friendly. Our room (5) had the wow factor in abundance. Upon walking in it was one of those moments we haven’t experienced since our visit to Niagara Falls! The room was spacious, well stocked with amenities and USB ports for charging devices. The sunrise view was well worth it. The complimentary welcome tea and cake and drinks in the lounge served by a terrific barman made our stay relaxing. Breakfast was lovely, and if ever back in the area we would stay here again. Whilst we went into Tenby for dinner, the hotel restaurant looked lovely. We used a taxi firm called Crow Cabs and they were also brilliant, a few minutes late on pick up, they radioed ahead unprompted by us to our restaurant to advise them and we arrived just 1 minute late… an excellent taxi firm and recommend by the hotel receptionist. A beautiful boutique hotel, just book it!
