If you ever happen to have to stay here prey you never deal with the manager. Myself and 7 friends had multiple rooms as we were in the area for an event. Coming back to a hotel about 11:30pm and using the bar was an issue and we were allowed to purchase one round of drinks and t

Response from Scott_TheDashwood, General Manager at The Dashwood Hotel
Responded yesterday
This was an unfortunate situation. The Reviewer was one of a group of eight guests. She showed no consideration for our other guests, neighbours of the hotel or our staff. Aware that our closing time is 11pm, the guests called from their taxi to order a bottle of wine. As they were guests of the hotel and it wasn’t much after 11pm, we said that it wouldn't be a problem. When they arrived, they ordered two bottles of wine, spirits and bottled beers. Guests were staying in rooms directly above the bar, so we asked if they could have their drinks in the covered and heated gazebo where they could stay until midnight, when we’d need to lock up. At about 12:20 I asked for them to finish so we could lock up, however the reviewer became belligerent and the atmosphere of the group changed, I explained we had to be considerate our other guests. The Reviewer said that they'd take the party to their room and that would be worse for our guests. I explained again that our other guests were being disturbed by them being outside and asked that they call it a night. All of the party agreed except for the Reviewer. Eventually she was convinced by the rest of the party to go to bed. We cleared up their empty glasses, locked up and went home. Thirty minutes later we received a call from the other guests staying on their floor. They were concerned about the noise – there was swearing, banging doors to the rooms and shouting along the corridor. They were so concerned that they asked if they should call the police. We raced back to the hotel and could hear that they were having a party in the room next door to these guests. I explained this was not acceptable and asked everybody to go to their own rooms and waited for them to do so. Others in the group seemed to accept this but not the Reviewer who was still making a fuss that she should be able to carry on. As we couldn’t trust that there would be no more problems, one of our team spent the night in the restaurant. At around 1:30am doors were slamming again, and the Reviewer stormed back downstairs saying she was going to leave and was going to call a taxi. She definitely wasn't scared - she stood shouting at me in the car park. She got her husband up and they left. The rooms were left in an appalling state – the photographs are too unpleasant to post, but we’ve kept them for our records. The hot water in one of the rooms was left running all night, which meant that the other seven rooms didn’t have hot water in the morning. And, a mattress was so badly damaged it has had to be replaced. It took all day Sunday to turn the rooms around for our new guests. It’s sad that these things happen but I feel any readers looking at our other reviews will on balance understand our position.

We had an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a ground floor twin bedded room with very comfortable beds and plenty of space. The bathroom had a wet room, which is not entirely my cup of tea as I manage to wet a large area

I had a fabulous stay at the Dashwood for 2 nights in a spacious and beautiful decorated room. The mattress was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The hotel staff were efficient, polite and friendly! I felt like. Princess when I ordered supper to my room. The view

Are there hair dryers available for use here?
I believe there was a hairdryer, but I always take my own. If it’s important to you phone them they are very friendly and helpful.

Is breakfast included as part of deal of staying overnight?
Not in our deal - the room only charge was £135 and the breakfast £10 each. I didn't mind this too much (although I only realised after booking that it wasn't included), but what really jarred with me was the unexpected 10% service charge on the drinks & food (£8.97) When I showed surprise at this on checkout, the receptionist said it was optional, but, being a soft old fool versus a pretty young girl, I didn't have the neck to have it taken off.
