Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso is located on the seafront, in the south of the island of Gran Canaria, between the Maspalomas dunes nature reserve and Pasito Blanco sports marina. Meloneras beach and the emblematic Maspalomas lighthouse are situated only a few walking minutes away from the hotel and can be reached walking along the Meloneras promenade with impressive sea views and a variety of restaurant and leisure options. This magical five-star resort was inaugurated in 2004; it is laid out as a picturesque village with manor houses, open to the Atlantic Ocean with elegant spaces submerging guests into the culture and traditions of an archipelago attractive all year round thanks to climate, people and natural settings. The hotel, with 5-star category and a surface of 56,340 m2, reflects the most characteristic aspects of traditional Canarian architecture and shows a structure similar to that of a cosy island village, with central square, garden areas and charming stately houses with wooden balconies. The hotel’s extensive garden area hosts a wide range of subtropical and indigenous plants, as well as the magnificent pool area including five pools (one of them with salt water and three of them heatable in winter), three whirlpools, a pool for children (heated in winter) and an artificial beach, as well as several terraces with sunbeds and umbrellas. Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort has four fantastic restaurants offering dishes of an excellent and exclusive cuisine. The hotel’s half board arrangement, including breakfast and dinner, is served as hot and cold buffets in La Plaza Restaurant and La Casa Vieja Restaurant. Buffets include delicious food from around the world, as well as regional and national dishes and a variety of diet products for breakfast. For guests who prefer à la carte dining the hotel offers a tempting alternative: the hotel’s Plaza Mayor Restaurant, experts in grilled meats. The hotel’s Alpendre Bar in the pool area completes its large offer of takeaway drinks and snacks with a fantastic salad buffet, perfect for light lunches. The Azotea Bar, located in the pool and sun terrace area, offers takeaway drinks and snacks. The hotel has seven floors, all perfectly connected by ten elevators. Rooms are furnished and equipped according to superior five star standard to guarantee conformable holidays to hotel guests. Rooms are distributed around the hotel as stately villas and spread through the garden area with a large variety of autochthonous flora. The hotel includes a total of 561 rooms, 521 of which are double rooms and five of which are adapted for guests with limited mobility. The hotel also offers 40 suites. One of the major attractions of the Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort is, without doubt, its extraordinary Thalasso Lopesan Villa del Conde Thalassotherapy centre (charges apply). With a privileged location on the seafront, just below the promenade, it offers sensational ocean views. Equipped with 1,200 m2 of modern and luminous facilities, the Thalassotherapy centre offers, apart from traditional seawater treatments, an innovative treatment offer for groups or couples in the so-called ‘Ocean View Suites’. These suites, surrounded by water, have their own pool with underwater massages and a terrace for relaxation. Sports fans will be eager to find the hotel’s gym, as well as the tennis court with artificial lawn and quartz sand (with extra charge), tennis lessons (with extra charge), volleyball, ping-pong table, putting green, pétanque, darts and billiard tables (with extra charge)

The hotel consist of several buildings spread over a rather large area. Consequently the rooms vary a lot regarding location, accessability and views. We had booked a junior suite, the one we were assigned was rather unappealing, with a view over a very abandoned, very dusty parking lot and a wire fence. Facing north, so no ray of sun would ever touch the terrace. Mobilising my inner cocker spaniel, I humbly asked if they perhaps had something else available? Whereupon we were given a choice between a positively enormous suite with a private roof terrace or an alternative junior suite with a beautiful view over the gardens and the sea. Both offered at the same price as the one booked. We took the big room(s). Consisting of living room, bedroom, large walk-in closet, bathroom with separate shower room, bathtub and all amenities in addition to the roof terrace, with sunbeds, large chairs and a coffee table. If luxury were measured in square meters this would be near the top. At the risk of sounding petty, there is still a certain feeling of something missing in a huge bedroom with a double bed on one wall and a single chair plus a table on another. And nothing else. Also, the feeling of luxury will always be somewhat diminished by the presence of my favourite hate item in any hotel which advertises (and prices) itself as ‘luxury’: The theft-proof dollar-a-dozen clotheshangers that require two hands and a lot of fiddling to detach and attach to their plastic fasteners. The restaurants are a mix between buffet and a la carte. The buffets are varied and there is also an open kitchen where you can order freshly cooked or fried meat, fish and seafood. We never got to try the a la carte restaurant, as the reception informed us the only available tables during our week there were on the Friday, at 9.30 pm. As we are not Spanish, we rather prefer to be finishing our dinner by that time. Our original booking confirmation at the hotel mentioned something about being in the Lopesan ‘Unique’ programme would give us some preference when booking restaurant tables; this was not known, and its existence denied, by the reception staff. The hotel has a beautiful spa. The ‘walk-through’ 5 pool water massage can be recommended.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the Lopesan villa del Conde over the last 15 years. Sometimes I have stayed at the hotel more than once in a year and additionally I have stayed at sister hotels Lopesan Baobab Resort and Lopesan Costa Meloneras. I've been fortunate enough to stay in some of the world's greatest hotels and have regularly promoted this hotel as being one of the best in Europe. The staff, food, surroundings and the sheer opulence of the hotel makes it one of the best you can stay at. Some years ago I started using the Unique program which applies to anybody who takes rooms from double deluxe up to senior suites. During Covid restrictions over the last couple of years I've been unable to attend the hotel with numerous bookings having to be cancelled due to regulations. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that this booking was rebooked a couple of times and the costs went up by a considerable amount just because I was moving the hotel room by one day. I was unable to secure a Junior Suite that I normally have and had to pay for a full suite but thought after 2 years it would be a wonderful treat. We arrived early morning and were pleased to see that the Unique desk was prepared for us and our room was ready. Unfortunately, my pre requests were not fulfilled and I was told that the area I wanted to be in and room level (top floor) had not been secured. I was very disappointed and the best that I was offered was to have the room reviewed in a couple of days as the hotel was full. The room had a sea view but unfortunately from the minute we entered it we were greeted with noise from the room above, scraping tables and chairs across the floor. This went on early morning and evening times until day 2 and I had to report it to security. Still no change for the rest of the vacation! I was asked during check in at what time I would like to have breakfast and evening meal. Once confirmed these slots were written down on my unique card. On the first morning, we arrived at the Unique breakfast room at 7.45 to be told that it did not open until 8 a.m. I showed the card that I had received on check in and also my unique wristband and they supplied us with some hot drinks until 8am. We both ordered eggs Benedict and when they arrived, they were lukewarm. Even though the staff were pleasant we expressed our concern at the presentation and also the temperature of the food. We were offered alternative food but decided to just go across to the normal restaurant and have better service. We did this for the remainder of the holiday but would like to express the fact that the choices in the morning were certainly not as good as what they had been over the years. Unfortunately this was on the evening time with the main meals as well, there was substantially less choices and the food quality was nowhere near as good as what it had been. The main thing that's upset me during the holiday was the fact that paying for a suite the benefits related to it were not as they had been over many years. No longer is there a segregated Unique pool and the section itself was terrible with limited sun and limited benefits. Unique customers are entitled to free drink and food from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. which was served in Unique section on the main level. The first time I walked up for a takeaway I was surprised to see that you had to actually go to the main bar and request items. We were disappointed as normally you have a buffet style section for you just to help yourself. I was a bit perplexed at the answer I received from the waiter related to the fact that because of Covid they were no longer doing this and yet in the main restaurant everything was buffet! When I return to my sun lounger and opened up the foil box that was supposed to contain two sandwiches for me and my partner, I was shocked to see that they were little finger sandwiches. They were bite size sandwiches and inedible. Another benefit of being a Unique customer was a one day spa pass which we used every time we visited, along with paying for additional treatments. We booked our appointment and when we went to visit were shocked to find that most of the section was closed down and yet they were advertising full price for services that they did not have. The main Spa pool was open, as was sections further down, but the area relating to the floatation tank, steam room and sauna were all closed down. We didn't stay very long as the reality was there wasn't enough open to relax. It is the first time that we haven't booked spa treatments because we were so upset at how bad it was in there. I really love the Lopesan Villa del Conde and enjoy my visits to it, on this occasion I seriously did not enjoy the vacation. More importantly did not think the Unique programme was worth anything near the vast sums of money that I had paid. From the images you can see that I filled in the customer relations form relating to my arrival and how things were going. At no stage was I contacted by anybody to see why I was having issues. I was informed during check in that I would be called the morning to find out how things were going and if anything could be improved………… I'm still waiting for that call!!! It really is with a heavy heart that I write this but I've already booked my next vacation in Maspalomas in the 5-star Riu. I was told the hotel was full and I didn't particularly think it was that busy. If anybody staying at the hotel should be feeling positive about their stay it should be those people who paid the ridiculous amount of money to stay in suites. I really felt let down this year and I'm really interested to see how my Riu experience plays out and whether this will become my new hotel of choice in Maspalomas.

Returning after a 2 year break due to covid it was nice to be back.Hotel was immaculately clean and the staff were doing the upmost to maintain this. The Hotel has implemented a few changes since our last visit which take a little adjustment to.Overall they are really trying in difficult circumstances and it is easy to get onboard with the new policies. The only one that i found to be a little frustrating is they now ask you to pay an amount at check in rather than leaving your credit card behind and paying the bill at the end. Having to go up to reception and paying more money half way through your holiday felt a little untrustworthy.Having visited reception 1 morning and being told that the bill could be settled at the end and no need to deposit more money only to find at lunch in the hotel that i had been cut off and had to pay cash was very annoying. Overall the hotel is still a great option in the winter months and will not put us off returning.
