Detailed Reviews
This is an excellent hotel situated in the middle of town and within a heritage listed building, The rooms are larger than I expected for such a building. They are adequate and comfortable for guests. The furnishings are excellent and the daily housekeeping right up to standard. The bathroom is reasonably large. A continental breakfast is included and a hot plate can be provided on request for a price.
There is no lift in the building which may cause some people difficulty although staff are available to provide assistance.
I was on the top floor which required 56 steps from reception. There was a good view over the rooftops including part of a Brunelian viaduct used by the railway.
I would always stay here again.
The provision of a pickup/delivery service by a dry cleaning/laundry service would be of considerable benefit to guests.

Hello LesS_10 So you counted the stairs to the third floor - well done. As you mentioned we are a Grade II listed building and we do not have a lift but always here to help you out with your luggage. Our central location is ideal to explore Truro and Cornwall from and everything that you need is right on our door step. The housekeeping team will be pleased to see that you mentioned them by name and we will pass along your suggestion about the laundry service onto the team. Take care - The Mannings Team.

The hotel is nicely central to Truro town centre, with easy access to cafes, shops and restaurants. I was travelling alone, and the staff made me feel very welcome and relaxed. The food in the restaurant is very good, and while I find dining alone of an evening uncomfortable, Karina and the other staff (sorry, I didn’t catch their names) made it a really enjoyable experience. Attentive without making me feel at all rushed, and conversational enough to stop me feeling to alone. For me that was worth so much.
The room was spotless and cleaned every day. The shower is the type that is plumbed directly into the bath taps, but the pressure was totally fine! I did find the room very warm on a couple of evenings and the building does suffer the creaking floors from the room above, but nothing that was an issue.
The secure car park was an unexpected bonus, as I felt my car was safe each night. Vehicle entrance is controlled by the staff, with a pedestrian gate that is passcode secure.
Thank you to all the staff for making my staff so enjoyable. I would happily visit again.

Hello Sm1le It's wonderful to read your comments about the team and thanks for mentioning Karina as she will be so thrilled to see that you mentioned her, The housekeeping team will also be pleased to see that you mentioned how clean your room was. Yes, it has been quite warm for a few weeks now and we as we are a Grade II listed we are a bit creaky in a few places a you mention. Our central location makes us a great base to explore Truro and Cornwall from. Take care - The Mannings Team.

Bang in the centre of this compact city, you can't go wrong with Mannings. My top floor quiet room, looked out to the rear of the hotel with great views. The air con was efficient and the shower cubicle particularly stylish and spacious. The restaurant serves a good continental spread at breakfast, with a variety of hot cooked to order dishes at a supplement. Card payments only, no cash. It's advisable to reserve a table for dinner, as in the evenings the restaurant is rightly popular with non-residents. Lisa runs an efficient operation and is very friendly and chatty. Perhaps the main courses are a little pricey, but you can't fault the quality and presentation. If you arrive in Truro, the hotel is a brisk 10/15 minute downhill walk. Buses to/from the station are frequent at £2 per journey - definitely worth it! The bus station is just around the corner from the hotel across from M&S. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 night stay and the lack of a lift wasn't an issue.

Unfortunately only a City room was available for our one night stay at £125 rather than a standard double at £100. I can’t help but wonder what the City room criteria offers but this was a very standard room probably slightly smaller than average. The outlook from the room could hardly have been worse, 3 walls of pebble dash concrete buildings with views of air conditioning units and a painted ashphalt roof of a building below. We had been naïvely thinking ‘city’ might have meant some kind of view of the city of Truro! We were attending an event at Hall for Cornwall and hoped to have a quick drink beforehand but service was slow and drinks were not served at the bar you have to order at bar and wait until they could get round to bringing them for you; frustrating. The city room issue left us feeling ripped off and would not use again. Only one packet of crisps left and we ordered some bread and oil - only the bread was brought over with plates/cutlery or oil!

Hello leahb104 Sounds like we let you down all the way around. We do have a variety of rooms available here, our smaller standard doubles, our larger city doubles and then we have our open plan apartments. City Double is just a name that we use for a style of room that we have and as we are a city centre location we don't really have any rooms with a view to be honest with you. We're not too sure why you couldn't order your drinks from the bar direct but we will pass your comments along to the restaurant team. Take care - The Mannings Team

I don't recall them mentioning that there was no lift, and three flights of stairs was rather difficult for us. They disabled the thermostats at some point, and it was stifling hot when we first got to our room mid afternoon on a rather cool day. We called, and they can override, but that meant continual calls to adjust the temperature as needed. Not having any control over your living environment is about as inhospitable as a hotel can be and is completely unacceptable.
The room description suggested a king bed, but it was barely a queen. There was no safe or mini fridge. There were lot of electrical receptacles and a few usb type a ports, but we use type c connectors, so it's fortunate I brought my own setup. Bath towels were large, but thin and very scratchy. There was just one wall hook in the bathroom for hanging things. There was just one cup at the bathroom sink. I'm assuming that we're like most people, and we put our toothbrushes in the cup to keep them off the surface of the sink. Now, how do you get a drink or take a pill?
Our stay was for three nights. We skipped housekeeping on day two to give housekeeping a break because we hadn't used the room much after arriving late the day before, but did ask on the third day. They replaced the coffee, and made the bed, but did not bring any new toiletries or towels, which we needed.
All in all, just a cheaply run outfit.

Hello jgazurian We do take on board all the comments that we receive from our guests as this helps us to plan for the future and also it makes us aware of any issues that we may be unaware of. We are a Grade II listed Georgian building and because of this we do not have a lift and all our accommodation is spread over three floors. This fact is clearly stated on our website along with our confirmation and pre- arrival letters as we always want our guess to know in advance. We have researched your comments about the air conditioning in your room and as you were unable to operate the controls we did try to help you out with the temperature in the room with over override system in reception. Obviously, it seems that we couldn't seem to set the temperature to a point that would make you happy during your stay. We are a 3 Star AA listed hotel and no, we do not feature safes or mini fridges in any of our rooms and details of what can be found in our rooms is clearly mentioned on our website. We do use a local laundry company and up to now we have never had an issue with their service but we will look into this for you. In an effort to conserve water and resources we do not automatically replace towels if they are hung up in the bathroom and we have stickers on the bathroom walls that say if you would like us to replace your towels to place them on the floor - that may have been a misunderstanding here so we do apologise for this. We are always here for you to talk to so it's upsetting to read this as we never had the opportunity to talk to you personally. The Reception Team...

Mannings may be the only game in town in terms of lodging in the central business district, but as such it is easily walkable to most sights and shops of Truro. However, the mainline station does involve a 20-minute uphill trek on narrow pavements of busy roads. The room that we stayed was spacious, but sparsely furnished (it can accommodate a seating area, but it doesn’t). It doesn’t have air conditioning, so it may be a bit warm during heatwaves. The restaurant downstairs serves great dinners and breakfasts, and seems like a justifiably popular destination for the local folks. This establishment delivers on most of the basics: cleanliness, adequate room temperature control, noise levels under control, reasonably comfortable bed, good toilet pressure and water temperature controls in the bathroom, sufficient electrical outlets to charge your piles of modern junk (although it would be nice if it had dedicated USB ports), workable wi-fi, fairly competent housekeeping, and a helpful and friendly front desk staff. The price is fairly reasonable, and we would definitely return if given the chance.

Hello bcbloke Thanks for such a thorough and comprehensive review and overall it appears that you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, it can be a bit hot in the summer but we do have air conditioned rooms on the third floor so these are a great feature during these hotter months of the year. If you're looking for a seating area how about one of our open plan apartments with a fitted galley kitchen and lounge area? We look forward to your returm. Take care - The Mannings Team.

We have always loved Mannings Hotel. Our latest visit was as wonderful as it always is at this unique hotel. From the moment we stepped into reception to be warmly greeted by Martin and the team we felt so at home. They are all amazing, helpful, friendly knowledgable and always keen to enhance your stay in any way they can.
There are so many reasons we love to stay at Mannings. We are able to park our car, have our favourite room, dine in their amazing restaurant, have room service if we want and go to a production at Hall For Cornwall knowing we only have a very short walk back to Mannings at the end of the performance.
The rooms, indeed the whole hotel is spotlessly clean every time, the rooms are comfortably furnished and have a hospitality tray with coffee, tea, biscuits etc plus bottled water. The en-suite is immaculate and there are plenty of clean towels and toiletries provided. The beds are extremely comfortable, in fact everything is welcoming and cosy and we always get a good night’s sleep. There is a resident’s lounge and a bar if you feel like a quiet drink or a bit of socialising.
The staff here are all wonderful, every single one of them.
There are so many good things to say about Mannings, I could write an essay, but the best thing you can do is to pay a visit, and talking of paying, the value for money at this excellent, perfectly run hotel is outstandingly good.

If you're attending an event at the Hall for Cornwall, then you won't get any better than staying here. It's literally a one minute walk to the venue. Our stay over two night included free parking in their private carpark, and when you realise the extortionate price of Truro car park's this in itself was a Bargain!
Our welcome was warm and friendly, and nothing seemed too much trouble. Our room on the 3rd floor was roomy, clean and warm. The large bed was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed two nights of very pleasant sleep. Breakfast was included with fresh juices, cereal and continental cold meat and cheese with a selection of bread being included. You could pay extra for a number of cooked options, but the free offerings was more than enough and included very nice Cornish Tea or coffee. Again, the service was efficient and friendly, and we would definitely recommend Manning's as a brilliant base for your stay in Truro. Should we journey to see another show at the Hall for Cornwall, we would not hesitate in booking another stay here. Thank you.

Our third floor rooms feature some fantastic walk in showers and air conditioning for the summer months and as you say "some very comfy beds." Car parking and an extensive Continental buffet are included in all of our daily room rates so yes, it is a bargain when you stay with us. Hope to see you for your show....... Came here with my boyfriend, really ambient setting, right in city centre and no shop too far away. Clean room, cleaned everyday. Really big bed (super king I believe), very comfy. Shower ran a little cold at times but nice overall, also had a bath which was lovely. Paid £700 for 4 nights mid august, food in restaurant good, and continental breakfast included was very nice. A note for future visitors, cleaning the room is offered everyday however they don’t give a time as to when they come, usually is around 9-10am so good idea to put a do not disturb sign if you fancy a lie in. Friendly staff who greeted us frequently whilst passing in corridors, felt very safe and secure. Parking on site is free also, and a secure car park too. Would recommend maybe they make the windows more noise blocking? for light sleepers, I struggled to get past the seagulls outside, however I understand the building is fairly aged and this may just be my preference. Really nice visit, would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again. Thank you to the Mannings hotel staff for making this visit so pleasant.

Hello Izzydury15 Thank you for such a thorough review and all your comments will be shared with the team here. Reviews like this really help when people are undecided about staying somewhere. We couldn’t ask for a better location as we are right in the heart of Truro with everything on our doorstep as you mention. If you manage to visit us again, we’ll be happy to pre book our housekeeping team for you at a time that suits you best. As a Grade II listed building we do have some very old windows and yes, we do have a large seagull population which is very difficult to control!!! We have managed to stay open during the last 2 lockdowns for essential workers and when we were allowed to open to leisure guests, we continued with our COVID -19 procedures as we felt that it would be safer to do so for all concerned. We are extremely proud of the team here and it’s lovely to see that you have taken the time to acknowledge them. Hope to see you back soon.

We stayed for one night at this extremely well located hotel in the city centre. It has its own gated car park which avoids any additional car parking costs. The receptionist was polite and efficient and check in was very easy. Our room was very comfortable and included tea and coffee making facilities. The price included a continental breakfast which was very good but hot food was available at an additional cost. All the staff were friendly and helpful and I would have no hesitation in returning.

Hi we’re only about 15 miles away from both the North & South coast ..
Truro itself really doesn’t have that much in the way of entertainment for children but we are a great place to explore Cornwall from..
Take care,
Hi Janet
We most certainly can.
Look forward to seeing you.
We must certainly do.
Let me know if I can help you out in any other way.
Take care.
Hi Sally
I am sorry but we do not have the facilities to take dogs but may I refer you to our sister Hotel - The Merchant House Hotel also in Truro as they have dog friendly rooms.
Hello Elizabeth our daily car parking fee is £6.00 per day.
This does entitle you to leave your car in the car park after you have checked out if you are working in town.
I would mention though that on some of our offers we do offer free car parking.
