We booked a long weekend in early December as we had not been to Cornwall for several years and Truro is convenient for day trips on the train. We saw that the Merchant House had a suite available with a small kitchenette attached which made the room bigger but also meant a fridge for wine! The suite is a very decent size and benefits from a sofa and a table and chairs in the bay window and does not feel at all cramped. The bed is king sized and really comfortable. We had been advised that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment and on arrival it was obvious the public areas had just been done with good quality furnishings and fresh paint. The owners plan to work through the bedrooms in the new year and feature rooms such as the suite are almost certainly going to be high on the list. We had a comfortable and pleasant stay and will certainly consider the hotel the next time we stay in the area. The rating of 4 represents the fact that there is a bit of returb needed in the suite but we have no doubt that it will be deserving of a 5 in the next couple of months.

3rd time staying at this wonderful hotel (it’s the only place I request from my workplace when down this way) and it’s only 5mins drive from the centre but so much better to walk down the hill. The free parking makes it so convenient to just park up and get on with the day. Staying here, the hotel staff make you feel welcome and are happy to always help. The main difference from the last time I came in the Summer has been the completely revamped sitting room, bar area and breakfast area as well as the conference room. It adds another level to the hotel and it’s such a joy to sit in the sitting room after a long day and feel like you’re at home minus the kids running around me. Thank you again for another wonderful stay. Look forward to coming back in the new year.

Due to a recent family illness we needed to make an urgent visit to Truro at very short notice. This hotel was perfectly positioned for our purposes, but due to the nature of the visit our requirements changed during our stay. The flexibility and kindness of the staff shone through at all stages and we cannot thank them enough. The hotel itself is undergoing an extensive renovation and the only thing that prevents me awarding 5 stars is the fear that someone may book one of the rooms yet to be completed and expect more from a 5 star review. The public areas including the bar and dining room have been done to a very high standard and I would expect all the bedrooms to match this standard in due course. Ideally situated near public transport links and with ample parking or the number of rooms if you are looking to stay in the are it's well worth a look. Hand sanitising points were available at all entrances.

Me and a friend stayed here for one night following a staff outing. The bedroom was clean and tidy, the bathroom was surprisingly big and the beds were really comfy. It is a shame we didn’t have time for cake in front of the lovely fire, hopefully next time. We wouldn’t hesitate going back, especially after the fab service we got from the friendly staff - thank you.

Used for a one night stay after a party . Pre-booked and so check in was a breeze, very friendly and welcoming greeting, room was warm, clean and well equipped with all the usual facilities, bed was extremely comfortable and the en-suite toilet / shower room was spotless. Continental breakfast - complete with DIY boiled eggs - included in the room price, and was served in a beautifully redecorated dining room, Nice bar and lounge area, complete with a wood burning stove and comfortable seating. Under new ownership and many improvements are in the pipeline which I'm sure when finished will justify an extra rating point. Will definitely be using this hotel in the future.
