The pictures do not do the décor and the ambience of the pub, rooms or restaurant justice. Now there is a surprise and a very welcome one too. It is a very nice place to visit, stay and eat in. The welcome was very warm and friendly. We stayed for one Friday night and had a meal aswell. Free bottle... More

Great location, friendly staff and a beautiful room. Arrived down to breakfast at 730 to be told that there was a problem in the kitchen and that nothing was working! I was told I could have toast or a continental ! I could hear staff talking in the kitchen and it seems nothing was prepared,so that was why there was no... More

Not being a native to Welwyn Garden City I have only visited this venue twice. The first time it was a dusty old pub with mismatched furniture and dirty windows. My second visit, on the other hand, was a huge improvement I’m happy to say. It’s now a charming village pub with exquisite interior design, a mouthwatering menu and the... More

The the Wellingon for a 'quick' lunch with my wife before shopping at M&S at London Colney.Warm welcome which was maintained throuhghout our visit without becoming over-bearing. My calves liver and bacon was excellent, a big helping and a nice touch of pink in the liver. I would certainly have that choice again. Note, the Rusty Gun and the Wellinton... More

Been a regular at this restaurant for years and today I've gotta be honest, I was very let down. Had to ask for a drink at the bar, had to ask for a table, dinner was warm but we was starving and just ate it quickly... Not one person asked if we wanted another drink, I was desperate for a... More

We are regulars at the Wellington and generally always enjoy the restaurant. The menu is very varied and comprehensive with daily specials. The waiting staff are mostly young people and very friendly and efficient. We went there recently for a late lunch at about 4pm. We had the Wellington burger and fish and chips - very good! They also have... More

Just went to the Wellington for a lunch. Food was OK, had the meat sharing platter and tempura prawns, but nothing to write home about or recommend. The main problem was that the kitchen was incredibly slow. Our meal took at least 30 minutes to arrive, probably more like 45 minutes. The place was not very busy and all the... More

Just a hint - if you donate a raffle prize to the village festival of a " meal for two" best not to - initially say it is not valid; then say you will only allow two mains; then agree to add starters but no pud ; then charge £12 for a glass of rose ( come on!), then hand... More

Perhaps change is in the air, or there are off days every so often. But after an interval a family return for lunch didn't inspire. It could be the quantity which could be more, or quality e.g. gristle on sirloin slices. The vegetables came in two dishes for our four not as hot as could be? The atmosphere and setting... More

Six bedrooms, each one slightly different, complement the Wellington's award-winning food and service. In keeping with the spirit of a building dating from 1352, we have kept and restored as many of the original features as possible, so you will encounter oak beams, cedar pine floors as well as antique furniture throughout the building. Some rooms even have an open fireplace or a four-poster bed... Each room has also been updated to offer you all the luxuries of contemporary living with plate glass, crisp bed linen and feather-down duvet on hand-sprung mattresses, monsoon showers or deep free-standing slipper baths, free WiFi, flat screen TV and a personal iPod dock/iPhone charger in your room. ... more   less
