Been a regular at this restaurant for years and today I've gotta be honest, I was very let down. Had to ask for a drink at the bar, had to ask for a table, dinner was warm but we was starving and just ate it quickly... Not one person asked if we wanted another drink, I was desperate for a...

We are regulars at the Wellington and generally always enjoy the restaurant. The menu is very varied and comprehensive with daily specials. The waiting staff are mostly young people and very friendly and efficient. We went there recently for a late lunch at about 4pm. We had the Wellington burger and fish and chips - very good! They also have...

Just went to the Wellington for a lunch. Food was OK, had the meat sharing platter and tempura prawns, but nothing to write home about or recommend. The main problem was that the kitchen was incredibly slow. Our meal took at least 30 minutes to arrive, probably more like 45 minutes. The place was not very busy and all the...

Just a hint - if you donate a raffle prize to the village festival of a " meal for two" best not to - initially say it is not valid; then say you will only allow two mains; then agree to add starters but no pud ; then charge £12 for a glass of rose ( come on!), then hand...

Perhaps change is in the air, or there are off days every so often. But after an interval a family return for lunch didn't inspire. It could be the quantity which could be more, or quality e.g. gristle on sirloin slices. The vegetables came in two dishes for our four not as hot as could be? The atmosphere and setting...

Ate here this week as a romantic meal with my wife. We often go here and usually like it. But things have changed - new owner??? new chef????? My wife had the vegetarian special (ratatouille cake with aubergine) and I went for the chickpea and spinach curry - neither really impressed and my wife's was very salty. What really let...

We went for breakfast today as it was my husbands birthday. We were ignored by the two men at the door as we walked in, they carried on their conversation (they did work there) we were then seated by a waitress. My husbands scrambled eggs and bacon were fine but I had ordered Eggs Royal it came swimming in what...

Dinner at the wellington, food good, came out very quickly, though the restaurant was not very busy, drinks on the high side re cost, large glass of wine just under £7. Staff helpful. Outside seating available, which is nice during our summer. Parking free for customers, large fee payable if not! Watch out, signs posted.

There isn't many other places to go in the village for coffee so great it is open early. Nice coffee. Ok value. Really nice decor and atmosphere. Would love to come back for food. Menu looks good, albeit quite gastro. Service ok. WiFi a bit variable. Great place to meet for a business meeting.

My wife and I had lunch at the Wellington on Sunday 5th June. We had heard that the kitchen served the best "spare ribs" in the county. I consider myself a good judge as my time living in Colorado had taught me what good ribs really were. We dined on the terrace in bright sunshine were the service was excellent...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Six bedrooms, each one slightly different, complement the Wellington's award-winning food and service. In keeping with the spirit of a building dating from 1352, we have kept and restored as many of the original features as possible, so you will encounter oak beams, cedar pine floors as well as antique furniture throughout the building. Some rooms even have an open fireplace or a four-poster bed... Each room has also been updated to offer you all the luxuries of contemporary living with plate glass, crisp bed linen and feather-down duvet on hand-sprung mattresses, monsoon showers or deep free-standing slipper baths, free WiFi, flat screen TV and a personal iPod dock/iPhone charger in your room. ... more   less
